A while back I had made a comment about how when Episode III came out, I was a little disapointed in the portrayl of General Grevious in the film, who was relatively easily disposed of by Obi Wan, after seeing the character in the 'Clones Wars' animated shorts on CN and him being extremely badass and almost impossible to defeat.

Then you made this very snide reply saying that it's my own fault for basing my expectations on some "samuri jackarse cartoons", if I recall correctly.

The BIG difference being that since this was being televised, it was reaching a far wider audience than most written "EU" material, and this had more of a direct level of involvement/approval from Lucas than most of the written forms of "EU" material.

Regardless of whether or not you personally liked those shorts, and regardless of how you feel about the people who worked on them, they have just as much legitimacy (if not more so) than most of the type of EU that you are praising here.

That's demonstrably wrong. The Sith existed since the earliest concepts of Star Wars and the Starkiller story and all that. Darth Vader as a Dark Lord of was also frequently mentioned in all the publicity... noone knew WTF the Sith were, though. Zahn wanted to make his Noghri the Sith, but LFL licensing told him no (because Lucas obviously had plans for the name), but weren't actually revealed until the comics...

I agree, the usage of Darth by Guiness seems more like a first name, though and I kind of doubt it was originally intended to be a title.

Edit: Just realized that Ben also said that Vader was his pupil... That doesn't even fit his point-of-view excuse. lol.

Sure it does, if you take "CPOV" to it's logical extension as a filthy liar. From a certain point of view. Vader was Anakin, who was his pupil. See? Easy.

You're correct that "Darth" was meant as a first name, but was changed to a title by the time of the prequels.

However, there have always been Sith in the SW movies. The term was used in every draft of ANH except the final one. The 1977 novelization, trading cards, posters... all sorts of things that came out with the original movie referred to him as "Dark Lord of the Sith".

It just wasn't until the prequels that the term was used in a film and was clarified. The concept has existed since day 1.

Thanks for correcting me. I now realize the term "Sith" is older than I realized. I was watching That 70's Show and Eric, the main character and a big SW fan, calls Vader "Dark Lord of the Sith."

I posted the crawl from the '74 script and I think the Sith are mentioned there, it's probably miles back in this thread....

Given that the DVD's were Dolby EX (6.1), I'd expect at least 7.1 with dual mono rears, though it's possible a discrete 7.1. Should be interesting to see if it's DTS-HDMA or TrueHD, though.

(In regards to the OP who is buying a BD player for SW on Blu) That would be a waste of money.
Just buy a decent upscaling DVD player (they're cheap now).
It will upscale the DVD image to near blu-ray quality.

I have a blu-ray player and I honestly cannot tell the difference in image quality between a blu-ray disc or standard DVD. I have a 720p LCD TV, so I am not getting the full 1080p, so maybe that is why I can't tell the difference, but I don't know?

I think the quality of your TV matters more.
The Star Wars trilogy on DVD looks incredibly on my TV.

And a few posts down, someone claimed to already have seen the Blu-rays.

I never looked at the Jedi counsel as being stuck in their ways as much as being clouded by their political involvement. Prior to the PT, I always thought of the Jedi in more of a religous order or cerimonial brotherhood type way, like the Knights Templar or something along those lines. Of course, the Jedi themselves, I always equated more with Ninja. But I never pictured them the way they ended up boing portrayed.

I dunno about trolls. But they certainly are uninformed about technology as a whole.
