It won't be. I expect the 9th disc will probably have some really juicy stuff.

To be a nice juicy incentive to those who only want the PT or OT releases.

I don't think you'll have to worry about that for at least 7 or so years.

Here's my theory : just like they did on the 2006 single releases, where they attached the theatrical versions, I think they will do the same thing with the individual 3-D releases that assuredly will come.

Since he is starting with the prequels, so the earliest Star Wars itself will be done is 2015, and depending it will be late 2015/2016 before Star Wars comes out in 3D on Blu. As he is doing one film at a time, presumably that's how they will be released as well. I'd be willing to bet a pretty nice chunk of credits that he will put a remastered version of each of the original trilogy on the corresponding 3-D release.

It would be a genius move, because people like me that don't give a whit about 3D would run out to buy the releases just for the "extra".

So if that happens, we won't see another box set until 2018 at the earliest (with the 3'ds included) and who knows - if they do put the theatricals on the single releases, they may not even make that set (to keep people buying the single releases).

That's of course all speculation, but based on prior history, and certain statements made, I think it's what is going to happen. In short, I don't think you have to worry about seeing them in another box set for quite some time.

so is it actually confirmed that the OT isn't the theatrical? -- not that it matters, because I can't live without Star Wars on Blu-Ray -- I just never liked all the added scenes

It's confirmed. It is not the original theatrical versions.

the HD version im watching on ITV1HD right now looks like crap. This BD set needs to hurry up and get here. A set like Alien Anthology will be perfect. The extras on that were great, and the AQ/PQ of the transfer was superb.

Yeah, because Lucas is the only one interested in making money.

As a huge, longtime Star Wars fan... I really don't think I'd buy the original theatrical releases at this point. I find them hard to watch after seeing the improved visuals of the special editions. The changes don't bother me. I don't necessarily agree with all of them, but I'm watching George's vision, not mine. ANH was the only original I picked up on DVD. Having that (and all the original versions on VHS), I already own the original versions. Since I much more than likely will never watch them, I don't see the point in buying another copy of them, regardless of the format. I'll only be buying updated versions at this point.

That's the old info. The most recent news from Fox is 4, 4, or 9.

That's what I thought. The individual trilogies wouldn't have any extra discs, but the complete saga would have 3.

My Post From A Few Pages Back:

The front page has a bit more info from that recent Norwegian Interview regarding the Films.
It appears the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy sets are now 4 discs. And the Complete Saga has a bonus disc.
Originally it appeared that all the Extras would be available only with the Complete Saga boxset.

Quote:
Star Wars

Star Wars: Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy will consist of four discs each. One for each movie and one bonus disc. Star Wars: The Complete Saga will have an additional special features disc, for a total of nine.

The remastering of the movies has been performed by Lucasfilm and will offer "the most recently updated versions of the movies," with "even more enhancements to the picture quality." When asked about Fox's answer to the fans that want to see the three original versions released, Marcais replied: "The versions that are being released are closest to George Lucas' vision. Other than that, no comment."

There is currently no date for a Blu-ray release of the six Star Wars movies separately.

Sales expectations are very high. For reference, the Avatar Blu-ray sold 5 million copies in the US and 4 million in the rest of the world. That's the "ceiling" on what sales to expect from a major Blu-ray release, and Star Wars is expected to raise that ceiling.

Yeah, Beast is right. On the preorder pages, the OT & PT are listed as being 4 discs each.

Besides, they couldn't have put both on the discs. One, seemless branching (especially of A New Hope) is next to impossible. Too many minor changes, from wipes to Star Fields were redone for the updated versions. For another, the original versions still would need to undergo expensive and extensive restoration. Which given Lucas no longer recognizes those cuts as his true vision, likely won't happen anytime soon.

ROTJ is perfect aside from "Jedi Rocks." and Hayden being seen at the end. Those scenes are hard to watch.

ANH has most of the new crap. But there are two scenes that really suck - the one with Han and Jabba and the scene with Han and Greedo. I don't even mind the pointless CGI characters that act like they're straight from the PT. But those scenes change both the Han and Jabba characters. Not to mention Jabba looks horrible and Han performs the fakest dodge from a laser blast in movie history.

If they simply took those out, I don't think a lot of people would mind that! But still, most just want the original Star Wars like they want the original versions of, well, every other movie that exists.

Jedi Rocks is awesome. Really seems to fit the whole wild atmosphere of Jabba's Palace better.

And the replacement of Ghost Anakin was for the best as well. It fits the mythology of the films better.
