The marketing ploy was that it would never, ever be released in it's original form. Whether as a stand-alone or as a bonus is beside the point, it was the last time, period. You can try to bend this whatever way you want to but your point that they stuck to their promise is, frankly, untrue - they did not.

I agree.

I'm not sure what Uxi is smoking.

Personally, I think it was just a marketing ploy. That's just me.

However, another thought could be is that Lucas (at the time) was just getting ready to prep the Phantom Menace when they stated the "own the original trilogy one last time...blah blah blah..." Lucas owned Empire and Jedi, but at the time did not own A New Hope (I think). So, it could have been Fox stating: 'This is the last time to get the trilogy.' leaving off the key word of 'together.' They did not wish to give up the rights to a New Hope (the only one they owned at the time I think) unless they could get something from Lucas (i.e. distribution rights for the new Trilogy and rights to release the altered versions, prob throw in some cable tv deals, blah blah blah). In other words, it may have been a polite way of telling fans: This could get messy like the James Bond films with rights issues... So, get em now.

That is just a thought though.

As much as Special Edition and PT haters will hate to admit this, that is the reality of the situation.

Well all this bs about lucas' vision and fans 'wishes' aside...

The real question here in my view is - and I haven't seen it adressed - given this is 20th Cent. FOX? Will this title be region free??

I'd love to pre-order on U.S amazon for importing to australia at the low price of (currently) 89$ - since in australia once it comes out it would be well over 100$ for the complete saga at most stores..Probly closer to 120-150!! *gasp* There is no online vendors here that have comparable rates to amazon

No, I suspect it's not a financial decision. I agree that the majority don't care and the majority of those who do care probably don't care a *lot*.

That said, I find it hard to believe a release of the unaltered OT would lose money.

Not including them with this upcoming release (ala Blade Runner) could certainly be a financial decision (and probably a smart one - however much they could raise the price almost certainly wouldn't cover the costs).

But withholding it completely? I don't know how much that has to do with money.

I'd actually like the soundtrack to be DolbyTrue HD, because I can play those back at any level, whereas with DTS HDMA it starts clipping at a high level, depending on how the soundtrack was mastered.
I would need to get a more powerful amp to handle a DTS HDMA for SW.

DolbyTrue HD can sound just as good as DTS HDMA. It's the sound design that counts.
For example, I take Star Trek's DTHD over Avatar's DTSHDMA soundtrack any day. National Treasure 2, and TDK sound fantastic too, as do many others.

Yeah, the flaming can begin.

Or Luke decided that blowing sh** up was fun and decided to go to the Dark Side and hang out with dear old Dad...

I'm not saying the Dark Side should have triumphed but would it have killed Vader to throw Palpatine down that shaft after millions of Ewoks cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced?

Even though there's not much to say until another announcement, I'd still like to think exactly how the box set will look like...like the packaging

lmao

Man, it would have been awesome if they were Wookies instead. Plus they could have explored Chewie a bit more there.

Yes, making them Wookies would have been cool. But Lucas is very much the sort of guy that needed to make sure his universe was expansive, and a Wookie planet wouldn't have been as "creative", according to his tastes.

I'd prefer PCM over any, but I agree with this part.

Actually his reasons are more due to Chewbacca.

Originally there was a ground battle similar to RotJ planned for ANH, between an army of Wookies and the Empire.

But since he couldn't do that at the time he took one of them, Chewbaca, and made him technologially savy as Han's Co-Pilot.

When it came to Return of the Jedi, he felt due to Chewbacca he'd established Wookies as a fairly technological race. And it wouldn't fit the storyline to have them running around with spears and such. So we got the Ewoks instead, for better or worse depending on your tastes.

I am glad we did get our big ass-kicking Wookie ground battle in Revenge Of The Sith though.

If Chewbacca really knew the Jedi Grand Master, you'd think he would've convinced Han that Jedi really doe exist and that the Force is more powerful than a good blaster.
