Star Wars Special Edition Changes HD

While I agree that some of the changes are much better, still quite a few of them are either meh or downright bad. Now if he fixes the 'color balance', 'contrast' and 'crushed blacks' problems for the new BDs, that could help out a few of those newer scenes.

For instance, I LOVE the new dusk sky in this shot below, however I hate how a lot of the detail disappears from this scene now due to the bad 'black levels'.

[Show spoiler]

I watched Adywan's edit because I wanted to see if some guy on the internet could do a better job than Lucasfilm. I liked it more than the 2004 DVD version that I have (Greedo shooting removed, redundant Jabba scene removed) but that was it. Nothing tops the '77 SW.
You must appreciate the irony though? The very same people who revile Lucas for his tinkering go gaga over some god-awful fanedit.

There is no irony at all due to the demand for ALL versions.

It's not like the fans are clamoring for the UOTs only.

Now THIS is irony-

George Lucas- "This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten."

That's because Adywan's tinkering was actually good. Have you even seen it? It's pretty impressive for one person using after effects compared with Lucas' crazy ideas and the whole of ILM at his disposal. Personally, I see Adywan's edit as the Special Edition that should have been.

It would be an interesting surprise that when the BDs are released, that George actually took a step back and remove some of the bad choices/additions, especially on the SE of the OT. He might just "get it" and say - ok that extra scene of Jabba in the SE - GONE! Same goes for other utter nonsense across the 6 films.

You mean like the addition of Anakin overtop 'Sebastian Shaw' in RotJ????

Of course, we can probably expect Beast to come on here shortly and try to defend it as usual with idiotic claims like, "Dur, you do realize he was speaking out against people altering films that didn't actually belong to them in the first place and blah blah blah blah revisionism cakes".

Only when you either don't understand or are purposely leaving out the context of that statement. Otherwise, I suggest you look up irony, because that word otherwise doesn't mean what you think it means </PrincessBride>

I understand it perfectly and see how it is ironic. Lucas defends film preservation of other movies, but then he continues to work on his own movies decades after they are released, thus not preserving them.

Is that all you have?

Are you ignorant of or just ignoring the context of his statement, which was about altering the work of other people? You're either being dumb or deceitful by taking that quote out of context... not sure which is worse.

Yes, I have seen it. And I think it's far worse than what Lucas came up with.

Each to his own, right? I think it's pretty sweet. But that's just me.

He wanted Congress to tell property owners what they were allowed to do with their own property and the irony lies in his justification.

He didn't talk about the rights of artists, he talked about the public interest.

He argued that the public interest in preserving films trumped the rights of the owners of those films to change them.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000184/bio

"I am very concerned about our national heritage, and I am very concerned that the films that I watched when I was young and the films that I watched throughout my life are preserved, so that my children can see them."

You don't see any irony at all there? Not even a little?

I read the entire context, and I can assure you I'm neither ignorant, dumb, nor deceitful. Great effort though -- don't address the merits of the post, just attach the poster. lol
