To be fair, he has had his moments.

The Star Wars screenplay was hardly a great work of literature but it wasn't bad either. Neither was his directing.

And the American Graffiti screenplay was genuinely excellent.

I completely agree that he's a far, far, far, FAR better producer than writer or director but credit where credit is due.

Oh yeah, well obviously the dude built an empire out of a simple idea in his head, everyone respects that. But it's true that ALL of these movies could have been ever better with someone who has spent their life learning how to become a great writer. Lucas has spent time learning how to do a lot of things, and therefore is not the best writer or director in the world.

There are far better Star Wars writers out there. If they ever make another SW movie while he is alive, what would be the one thing that would keep him from handing the script over to someone better than him? His ego, and that's a shame to hold back the quality of something over being a control freak.

You would think with the extreme negative reaction that came with the prequels, and how absolutely horrid that last Indiana Jones movie was, that at some point he will just accept that he's really not the best writer in the world. He's got good ideas, but cannot put together an intelligent and flawless script.

it´s safe to say Lucas is very familiar with Shakespeare´s work!

I'll be getting the whole box set, even though TPM and AOTC are terrible movies.

Until you watched how poorly set up and badly acted it was. Then its just confusing.

Yeah, that's the rub. Love might not have to make sense but love stories do and for whatever reasons this one landed like a lead bowling ball.

It seems to me that a beautiful ex-Queen, senator would have a line of suitors at the door and Anakin would have to fight them off with a lightsaber. It was a difficult juggling act getting everything into AotC and the loveplot wasn't 100% successful.

We must remember they are aliens though and those cats do things differently....

That's a pretty good example! It became Bilbo's "lie."

Again, he most likely won't use members from the American writers or director's guilds again evAr after being forced to pay what he considers "extortion" fines to them in the 80's.

Which is probably why Leia fell in love with Han instead of Luke.

You have to remember that the UOTWE's are people that have rarely see women or who have never been with a woman. Whos only interaction with a woman is when their mom goes to the basement to let them know dinner is ready.

Not that differently in such a terrible way. Han and Leia was done 1000x better than Anakin and Padme.

They have to at least make the audience want the two people to get together for us to feel good about the story.

Sure, making the romance forbidden will help the audience empathize with the characters but there's more to it than that. Anakin was completely unattractive in AOTC with his constant whining, crying, acting naive, and murdering an entire tribe of people (would have been 100% better had he not confessed to Padme about this).

I wanted Padme to run away from Anakin.

Very mature comment!
The love story of Anakin and Padmé works perfectly for me ...

Canada The Love of Anakin and and The Lust of Padme

Anakin: "You will not take her from me!"
Obi-Wan: "Your anger and lust for power have already done that."
Anakin: "That's where you are WRONG! She loves me truer and deeper because of my anger."
Obi-Wan: "Say wha?"
Anakin: "You would be amazed at what gets her hot. She decided to marry me after I had admitted that I had slaughtered an entire tribe of Sand People. So you can only imagine what I'm going to get for killing some Younglings. I bet she's finally willing to do that thing I've been asking her to do."
Obi-Wan: "I think I'm going to be sick."
Anakin: "Ours is a forbidden love."

Default Regarding Obi-Wan

Anyone notice that with each movie he seems to get weaker and weaker??

For those THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND here goes:

In EP1:
He was able to take on Maul with no problem

In EP2:
He was no match for Dooku and was wounded.

In EP3:
He barely could hold his own against Anakin.

In EP 4:
He was completely weak against Vader.

I mean as the episodes went on he was getting more and more weaker and not able to hold his own.

WHY??
