Now does this speak for or against further enhancements in the Blu-Ray editions?
To me that question is irrelevant. Movies as originally released AND any director determined enhanced version should be available, preferably in the same box. Each user should determine for themselves and only for themselves on a case by case basis.

On a side note I just finished watching Metroplis with the commentries. Man what a great film, Briditte Helm's eyes are crazy mental when shes played Evil Maria.

Anyways the commentators were mentioning the other less incomplete version of Metroplis which people loved and hold dear to their hearts and how the rights holders of the film are trying to distance the newer version of the film from it's previous incarnations because they want to have the definitive version (which is something that may never exist only the current version will, although the new version is almost verbatim to what was originally made in '27, apart from a few missing pieces). That they want their version and only their version on the marketplace.

Well it doesn't take much to know where I'm going with this both commentators agreed that all versions should be available as they present the movies to the audience of that time be it the 80's version the recent version etc. Each version has their value and merit and people love each one. Otherwise we wouldn't have got to the current version if the love and interest wasn't there.

Amazing for a film which is nearly 85 years old. Nice to know we'll be banging on about the UOT in fifty years....

It's hard to pick a favorite CG character since I think the majority of them are annoying and look like crap but I'll have to go with Sebulba. He was an excellent villain for the pod race.

Least favorite... Dexter in AOTC. Actually most of the worst ones are in AOTC.

So, let´s start another discussion.

In Episode 5 Yoda tells Luke Skywalker that the cave on Dagobah is strong with the dark side. My thought is that this could be the lair of Darth Plaguis... you know, the Sith Lord who was the master of Darth Sidious. What do you think? And please, no Expended Universe!
Could be but i doubt that Plagueis would reside in a cave.
I wonder why it was never truly explained?
It could be a birthplace of sorts for The Sith.

Does anyone know what this went for retail? The new ones are like 100 pounds on Amazon.co.uk. Shame their videos though it would be an awesome DVD set or LD collectors set.

I read that someone who used the Dark Side (not sure if they were a Sith or a Dark Jedi or whatever) lived there and fought Yoda at some point before Order 66. This is actually how Yoda knew about Dagobah in the first place.

"Wookiepedia" is a gold mine for this kind of info.

I'm not sure about that scene. Luke and Vader both have great introductions in ROTJ and that scene would mess with that.

Pretty cool seeing something like that all these years later. Lucas has a ton of stuff like that he's going to use to sell the same sets over and over in the years to come, I'm sure!

I highly doubt that Lucas will release another set prior to ROTJ-3D.

I also think that scene would play nicely at the beginning of RotJ...
More than anything else I wish he´d put Alderaan scenes into ANH. Those scenes featuring Jimmy Smits as old Bail Organa would fit perfectly into the slots left by deleting Luke´s original introduction.

What makes you say that?

Only took him two years with the DVD's. ROTJ 3D won't be until, what, 2016?

If this release in September was just a bare bones release with only trailers and, whatever was on the 2004 dvd than i would say that Lucas would release another set by 2016.

Lucas is going all out for this he is throwing everything in this set nothing will be left out i doubt that he will do this again.

Well, you're probably right in the sense that there won't be any major new content.

But, I'm sure he will milk these to death by eventually releasing the movies individually, in different packaging/configurations, etc.

With the sole acception of the fact that he included the non-anamorphic UOT with the individual OT DVD releases, all of the DVD re-release of any of the movies after their initial DVD release have not added anything new content-wise.

There was the intial 2004 DVD OT release with the 3 movies and the bonus disc. Then a year later, they had a slightly cheaper box set with the 3 movies but no bonus disc. Then there was the individual versions with the UOT. And then there was the digi-pack Trilogy set with same content as the individual releases. And of course in most cases (with the exception of the digipack as far as I know) there was the option between Widescreen and Fullscreen.

Then the PT had gradual individual releases (Widescreen and Fullscreen options), there was at one point a 2-pack of Eps 1 and 2 in Fullscreen... then there was the digi-pack Trilogy set which came out at the same time as the OT digi-pack.

So, short of Lucas actually releasing the UOT on Blu-Ray as an added bonus later on to get people to buy it again, I would imagine we can expect a bunch of similar repackagings to happen, but with little to nothing in the way of new, actual content.

I do wonder if the movies will each get gradual, individual 3D Blu-Ray releases, though. If Lucas is onboard with the 3D-bandwagon, I can't see him waiting until after the theatrical 3D releases of all of the movies to release any of them on Blu-Ray at all. I could very well be wrong on this, but I do think it would be silly for him not to do this (even though I'm not a big fan of 3D and don't really care if it thrives).

I think that with Episode I coming out in theaters in Ferbuary next year, we could potentially see a 3D Blu-Ray release of it either a few months later... or maybe a little longer, releasing it on 3D Blu-Ray closer to when Episode II comes out in theaters in 3D, in a way to cross-promote them... and then keep up with that pattern until they've all come out. If Lucas actually wants to help 3D to be successful, waiting 6 or 7 years to release the movies in that format at all would be a big mistake.

Not that I want to turn this into a Charlie thread but did he not re-work the show? I heard it was working a little better after that first night nuclear bomb?

Lucasfilm said that they're not calling it the definitive release since they keep finding things. I took that to mean that we can expect releases down the road offering different stuff.

I hope they're actually finding new stuff and not just holding out on us. But it's probably the latter, since that's the smarter way to go about things in a money, business sense.

Lucas really constantly rereleases the movies... First he releases them on VHS and Laserdisc, then he releases the SE on VHS. Then he releases them on DVD and now only seven years later on Blu-Ray. What is he thinking? I´m glad most other movies only once came out on VHS and then no more...

that was sarcasm by the way!

Of course there will be more stuff, they always find new stuff that was just sitting on the shelves that they never knew was there sure you did not know?

It's a business and they will do and use and tricks possible to make slaes.
