Hey I heard that the Star Wars movies are coming to Blu-Ray. Does anyone know if we'll get the original movies?

He has said that the OT is now pretty close to what he wanted them to be, and he was very happy how the Prequels turned out, especially AOTC and ROTS.
Hopefully, he is having ILM improve some of the Podracers, as they weren't the most detailed characters.
I would like to see the ROTS Yoda in all movies, but most importantly in the PT.

Well, it's not that long anymore, and we'll probably get some details on the release rather soon.
I really hope we´ll get some details soon.
I am hoping for some FX-changes also... even though Lucas stated that he´s pretty happy with the way the movies are by now, you have to consider that they are going to be rereleased theatrically in the coming years. The changes wouldn´t have been made solely for the purpose of putting the saga out on blu-ray. If they will be presented to a new audience (in 3D) I think the FX should also be up to date.

Completely agree with you there.

This is the BEST chance to make them the FINAL CUTS.

The technology is here, the time and the money.

If everything is done sympathetically I'm all for some new effects. I'm wondering how different the 3D versions will be to the BD releases, surely they'll have to change quite a lot to bring it up to 3D standards?

John Knoll who is supervising the 3D conversion said that no FX-changes will be made and that they are just converting the movies. That would imply that any possible change would have been made earlier ...

But it could mean that changes are being made for the Blu-Ray release, and no additional changes are being made.

I hope at least a few things get tweeked, because the 2004 versions of the OT were rushed and there are a lot of errors as a result.

While under some definitions what Han did could be called self defence, I'm sure some judge and juries might push for manslaughter. Solo was a character that shot first and asked questions later, it was an attitude that made him iconic. He even tried to shoot Darth Vader and those Tie-Fighters in the back when Luke was on the Trench Run!
You need to take a serious chill pill man.
First, I agree that Han was more ruthless in the original version, and I also agree (as said already) that changing the scene was stupid.
Now it doesn't matter if it was Greedo or Jabba or his sister or the Smurfs that threatened to take the falcon.
What matters is that Han wasn't going to let that happen, and that he knew he had to shoot first when Greedo showed he liked the idea of a dead Solo.

This being said, not going to let myself sucked in this completely stupid debate any longer. Out.

He's got a blaster trained on Solo for the entire scene and clearly expresses that the whole "idea" is to see Solo's "dead body".

Not self-defense?

Okay, now I want to see a new version where the Smurfs are added into the Greedo and Jabba scenes. They could threaten to 'smurf' the Faclon!

You will be missed. Stupid debates are what this thread is all about!

If Greedo hadn't had his gun out we could have a good old-fashioned barfight! Something the Original Trilogy missed out on. I can only think of one punch been thrown and that's Han and Lando in Ep. V. Obi-Wan got a few punches in with General Grievous in Episode III.

Anyone remember any more punches?

I think that LFL and GL should make some final tweaks and edits to the films to make them better. Even though GL has stated that he´s pretty happy with the way the movies are by now. With the 3-D release of the films coming out starting in 2012 and the blu-ray box set coming out this September you have to think more tweaks to the films might be coming. And I think the movies are better off with the tinkering yes their are some changes to the special editions of the OT that are not ok but for me the changes made to the films for SE's made the films better. And for some fans who are saying that GL is milking this release of the blu-ray box set he is not he is putting out the films in the best quality possible. This will be the best release of the star wars films to date. Sure those videofiles will complain if the problems from the 2004 OT dvd are not fixed but this time around hopefully they will be.

Dammit, they unpinned this. Now it's a little more difficult finding the best thread in this forum.

Apparently Harrison Ford wanted Han to perish at some point in the OT. What do you guys think about this? It kind of made no sense how no major characters were lost aside from Ben in the original film (unless you count Yoda, but he left on his own terms). Han sacrificing himself in Jedi would have been pretty awesome given his character development.

I think if executed (no pun intended) properly, it could have been cool. A character arc of someone who goes from only looking out for #1 to someone who sacrifices himself for the greater good or his friends could have been cool. But, it really would have depended on how they pulled it off.

We would have cried our eyes out! I remember Harrison saying "he ain't got no momma, he ain't got no poppa, kill him...." Or words to that effect. I've always hated it when something finishes and they kill someone off for dramatic effect. Star Trek with Data, Star Trek with Trip, Star Trek with Dax. Wait maybe I just hate Star Trek killing people off....

He'd been a lucky SOB all his life I'm glad they didn't kill him off. Where would all those EU stories been if they had? I thought Lando might have been toast though and the Millennium Falcon would have gone up in flames! That was one bad feeling Solo didn't get right!
