Yeah, that line from "Episode III" really bugs me, for two reasons. The first is because, in the story, you have the Jedi Order pursuing absolute justice against the Sith, who question the very nature of right and wrong. Therefore, Kenobi comparing absolutes to the Sith seems very backwards for the overall narrative.

The second reason is a bit more personal, because it almost feels (at least to me) that Lucas was trying to make some kind of moral or political statement with that exchange. I mean, he has Anakin paraphrasing the words of Jesus ("if you're not with me, then you're my enemy"), followed by Obi-Wan's "absolutes" line, which almost makes it look like Lucas was comparing anyone who believes in absolute morals to the quivalents of the Sith!

So, that whole line really fails in two areas: narrative and real-world applicability.

For the 2004 DVD releases, Lucasfilm didn't use its ILM division to restore the original trilogy, because that department was busy with completing "Revenge of the Sith". Instead, the restoration was farmed out to a company called Lowry Digital Images, and each film was given an extensive cleanup over a 1-month period for each one (3 months total). Mainly, this focused on color corrections, removing dirt and scratches from the prints, and other things of that nature. The biggest additions that Lucas himself made for the DVDs was redoing the Emperor's hologram scene from "Empire" with actor Ian McDiarmid, adding the multi-planet celebration to the ending of "Jedi", and replacing Sebastian Shaw's "Force ghost" of Anakin with fotage of Hayden Christensen.

I have moved out of my apartment in the city and into a house in a smaller town. I'm going to be able to watch Star Wars the way it was meant to be seen.

What I want to see in order of interest.

6. Return of the Jedi sandstorm deleted scene.
5. Return of the Jedi Luke builds lightsaber scene.
4. A new 2 hour documentary. With Mark, Harrison and Carrie. Not some old documentary.
3. Director commentary. NEW!
2. New Special effects. Fix all the old SE effects...keep them in.
1. Bluray quality.

In all seriousness, I actually like "Episode I" (no, I'm not kidding), and I remember feeling rather insulted when Lucas drastically reduced Jar Jar's role in "Attack of the Clones". I thought he was a funny character, and provided a much-needed supply of comic relief for the prequels, especially when considering how dark the whole trilogy would eventually become. It seemed at the time, that Lucas essentially caved in to fan pressure, and even went so far as to place the Empire's rise to power on Jar Jar's shoulders! I really think that whole idea was nuts, because while Binks was certainly a goofball, he never struck me as being that stupid.

Jar Jar is the scarecrow from the wizard of Oz. He thinks he doesn't have a brain, but he does. And in the end he's recognized...there is a line in the OZ that fits this.

Considering some of the things that are said in prison there are probably a lot of lines in Oz that fit Jar-Jar.

The way I see it is that it makes more sense for Lucas to have Anakin in his young Jedi form in the last scene of ROTJ with Obi Wan and Yoda. My reasoning is that soon after Anakin turned to the dark side, he fought Obi Wan and had both legs chopped off. In the original version of ROTJ, we see Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's aged force ghost with both of his natural legs intact. This could not be as Anakin lost those legs as a much younger man.
Once he turned to the darkside, the man that was once Anakin Skywalker died and became Darth Vader, who eventully lost both his limbs and was turned into a cyborg with mechanical limbs.
It's better to have a younger Anakin pre-fall to the dark side at the end of ROTJ than the trunk of Sebastian Shaw.

Well, its just that in working for Padme in the Senate, how could Jar Jar not know of her feelings toward the spreading corruption, and Palpatine in particular? I realize that no one knew he was a Sith at that point, but Padme definitely distrusted him, and I find it improbable that Jar Jar, speaking in her place at the Senate gathering, would think she'd approve granting the Chancellor emergy powers. That whole segment, to me, felt like a huge "kick me" sign placed on Jar Jar's back, by Lucas himself.

Jar Jar in his mind thought he was doing the right thing..and he was the representative now. He made the decision based on what people in his world were talking about...Palpatine was a sort of a hero at the end of episode 1. rememember the final scene in episode 1 where they throw him a big parade? The gungans loved palpatine. they were going to back him up and vote for him. they had his vote already when he saved naboo.

Naboo was not only represented by the queen..the gungans now represented half the planet.

That's funny, I predicted this would happen in SFX magazine (FR) back in 1997. (Of course I didn't have the name of the actor, but expected there would be a digital replacement of this kind).

OK, let's clear something up here; Palpatine had nothing to do with the fight for Naboo. He was elected Chancellor mostly out of sympathy, due to the taxation dispute with the Trade Federation (which, of course, he was secretly behind to begin with). In terms of the actual victory, that belonged to Anakin, Padme, and the Gungan army. I always assumed that parade was mostly for them, especially with Padme presenting Boss Nass with the glowing orb and everything. It symbolized a peaceful relationship, achieved by the union of both the humans and Gungans on Naboo.
