The complete saga art reminds me of a local children's book illustrator Loren Long around my area for some reason. Does anyone know who did these by chance? I personally love the covers and they remind me of a pastel drawing. I can see where some may be put off with the covers as they do have a light hint of children's book illustration. I'm sure once we see them in person though it will look great but it's the films that count obviously so just glad to see them coming at all.

I just cannot get past how ulgy the cover art for the complete Saga is to me. I really prefered the simple black place holder art they had. This makes the Star Wars saga look like it has nothing do with space and adventure. Looks more like "The trying tales of a troubled young ghost man and a badly drawn boy in the harsh desert." I mean, wow.

Anyway, I am sorta thinking maybe I should just rent that bonus disc and go for the seperate trilogy releases (which have MUCH better art). Then I realize I am not that silly and won't care about the cover art because I will just be looking at a spine in my collection. But the temptation is now there...lol... Going to stick with the complete saga ultimately though as I can get past box art. Just will be keeping that f#$$#er spine out on the shelf...lol.

Covers do not bother me much as I will be more busy watching the movies then the covers. Of course if you find watching the covers more fun then watching the movie you buy, yes then I do understand your pain

Hmm, well I cannot say I am thrilled with any of the three covers, but they aren't the worst I've ever seen. For the complete set cover, I get what they were trying to convey about the story of the Skywalkers, and I love the fact that they used a painting instead of a collage of heads, but I just can't get myself to really 'love' the final result.

I'm pretty indifferent to the Yoda cover all in all. I agree with what another poster said about the Vader cover with all the scenes built into him in the background that it seems a bit 'busy.'

The funny thing is when I first saw the Vader cover, I thought the Death Star image in his helmet looked like a dent. It immediately brought to mind an image of Dark Helmet in Spaceballs after smashing his helmet at ludicrous speed

It's still A New Hope.

And, if they were going to use any artwork for the Blu-Ray cover art, you only use Drew Struzan's work.

I like the work that we're getting. I don't particularly like the vintage Star Wars artwork. So, this new art work is fine. But, if they didn't do anything new, it should've been Struzan...nothing else.

Did anyone happen to notice the "screensaver" button and the image of the complete saga that is hidden under the states listings on the site? Somebody at starwars.com screwed up because the code is written so you cannot figure out how to click the icons and they are meant to be clicked on.

Who is writing the damn code for the new site because I noticed that the countdown timer was also misaligned.

The screensaver is just the video that was unlocked

60mb zip file containing an .exe I was expecting something better than what I have been watching all day.

Lucas, it seems, is giving entirely new set of deleted, extended, and alternate scenes, along with new interviews and such.

I'm very fascinated by what the supplement material will hold.
It's interesting that nobody is really discussing what the inclusion of "alternate scenes" might entail. It doesn't say "alternate takes," for instance. It's certainly possible (though I agree, unlikely) that Lucas went ahead and had his personal film prints of the OT re-scanned (perhaps long ago) and has included some of the key changed scenes here in original form (dirt and scratches and all) for people to look at in the supplements.

Similar to how "Romancing the Stone" had rough looking, though HD deleted and alternate scenes.

Happy to finally see a really big image of it. And it looks even more amazing full size.

It perfectly captures the spiriit of the movies. They couldn't have done a better job.

I get the imagery / message they were going for in the complete saga cover, but I dont think it came across in reality as good as it probably did in concept. The homestead on tatooine is a very important place to Anakin and Luke. And to me the image of the homestead really connects the two trilogies. I think the only other set that was featured in both trilogies was the interior of the Tantive IV.

Also, (and I dont remember the reference) I believe that when Star Wars was just in the "draft stage" it was supposed to be a "Space Opera about a farmer". So I think there is more symbolizm in it than just from the movies.

Maxwell,

Hell, I'm happy to hear that we're getting extended scenes as well. Because I know the scripts so well for the Prequels, I'm dying to see how extended certain scenes within the films get extended. The Duel perhaps?

And yeah, the alternate scenes are intriguing. The first alternate scene that I can think of that would be a stunner on this set is the original take on Anakin's Force choke on Padme. It was harsher before he reshot it. I wonder if we'll get that one.

Also, I'm just absolutely dying to see a specific scene between Obi-Wan and Padme in Episode at her apartment. It was mentioned in the film ("He came by this morning...") and we've seen stills of the two of them, talking on the couch.

I heart that scene in the script.

I liked it before I saw the big image. Now I don't like it. I agree with those who think it looks like a children's book illustration. I thought people were being overcritical about the packaging images, but when I saw the posting that included the original Star Wars poster, I realized they were all correct. That original poster is so much better and reflects the dynamic adventure aspect of the story.

I bet the back of the box is the reverse shot - we see Luke's face and the kid's rear. Although someone posted that the packaging is actually lenticular and changes as you view it - so maybe it's better than it seems.

I think the packaging is consistent with what's happened in the films. When Lucas used practical sets and analog special effects techniques, they were great, but when everything became digital CGI, it killed the spirit. When artists used traditional tools and ideas to create the marketing posters, they were great, but now that anyone with Illustrator and Photoshop considers themselves to be a designer, they sort of suck. So the separate sets look like ransom notes and the big set looks like an illustration by a cheap publisher who bought a license from Lucasfilm to make a low-budget children's book.

I'm sorry but this box art is a million times better than the bad photoshop jobs we got for the DVDs.

Yes, Struzan's artwork would've been better but, at least these are artistic, in their own way...

You do know the movie was retitled, right? .

And yeah, it always seemed odd to me that George Lucas went through the trouble to commision posters from Drew Struzan for the Special Editions and the Prequels (when those were already a rarity) and don't use them for the DVD releases.
