John Knoll's book is really great. You actually see how many sets and models they actually used in the Prequels.

There's obviously a ton of CG in the Prequels. Each film average 2,000 visual effects shots but they used a hell of a lot of models in those films.

I have tremendous respect for John Knoll.
He is simply incredible!

If anything I am most worried about the PQ to be consistent throughout the entire Saga.

Either way, I think this will be the final versions, as has been confirmed by John Knoll, and anyone who thinks that the will look better after the 3-D process is mistaken.
John has already confirmed that the same masters that are being used to create the BDs is going to be used for the 3-D editions

It's only 4 more months.
Please enlighten us how you know this. Or is this just an opinion?

Why is everyone assuming that just because these products will contain the 2004 versions of the film, they will also be ported from the 2004 'masters'?

The process was straightforward - Lowry did a 1080p restoration for the 2004 release, and that restoration was mastered digitally with speed/cost in mind (hence the colour timing mess up and lower resolution scans), and solely for future DVD releases. But this is 2011 - all their restorations utilise either 4K or even, for special instances, 8K scans. Therefore it only makes sense that they will have gone back to the '97 film stock, did a 4K scan and restoration, and only then made the few edits that were present in the 2004 versions before the film is finally mastered.

Afterall, if we're talking about changes to the actual film contents themselves between the 1997 and 2004 versions (not counting the source), then they are very minor. Obviously, the standout differences include Jabba and Hayden, but it wouldn't be a problem to port these over once that S.E negative is scanned and in the digital domain.

Don't forget - just because the Blu-Ray trailer[s] shows HD footage of the saga doesn't necessarily mean this has come straight from the final product, as I would bet it came directly from the 1080p 2004 master for the simple matter of ease. You only have to look at the Disney Blu-Ray trailers and how they use older/incomplete footage for their titles, and they have been in the past misleading.

I'm looking forward to a saga that will not only look better, but that will inspire and engage new audiences all around the world - just as the films did in their original releases, and the exciting period in 1997 when kids were the spitting image of us at that age.

In this case, I think I should really get this book.
Thanks for the tip. I have been wanting to buy it for some time, but was afraid it would contain too many photos of OT models and stuff like tht, and not enough info on the new ones.

Well, I heard that from the uncle of a friend, whose father works for some people, who once overheard that a sister's co-worker, which had been an employee at a place that was close by ILM, that he had heard some folks talk about someone, who knew somebody that knew something about a man who used to work for GL' assistant, who had heard from a colleague, that his colleague, who turned out to be a lady, that there was this guy's friend, who had learned that this was the case.

[Show spoiler] I think it can be found on Starwars.com somewhere.

A brief rundown on the 365 Days book:

113. Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition, 117. The Phantom Menace, 188. Attack of the Clones (Digital Evolution), 277. Revenge of the Sith (Brave Virtual Worlds)

Pure speculation but just because there MIGHT not be art on the disc means nothing. It's conjecture, and moaning about it is nothing but speculation. Kinda reminds me of the witch trials, where people screamed guilty with absolutely ANY facts. We all die, that's the only fact in this world.

People will never be happy, especially in these internet days where everyone has a forum. Instead of complaining so much, people should be happy for what they DO have. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Well, he and his brother Thomas did invent Photoshop after all.

I've been a fan of John Knoll when I learned he was just as nutty about the details of Star Trek as I was (he was VFX supervisor on GENERATIONS and FIRST CONTACT). The man knows his stuff.

PS: Arguing about disc art? Seriously? Is anyone actually not going to buy the set because they don't like how the discs look?
It's almost as bad as the arguments about the package art...for those (personally) I liked the original placeholders: the ones with the logo only!

It is very detailed on the prequels. I personally learned quite a lot about them. The book is also filled with Knoll's personal anecdotes (sp?). I would recommend it for any Star Wars fan so it should be a no brainer for you

I agree, I LOVED the place holder art for the three trilogy boxes! They were simple and very classy looking! LOVED them! Oh well, not going to stop me from buying the Saga.

But let me tell ya! They CROSSED A LINE IN THE SAND when they didn't put any disc art on that advertisment! A LINE IN THE SAND DUDE!!!! LOL

Oh, anyone buy True Grit today? Yeah, like the last Harry Potter there was no disc art! I was like "WTF!?" Looks like they were designed for me to watch them! Like what are they thinking? WATCH THE BLU RAY?! Whoa, whoa, whoa... Don't they realize I frame all my blus?

I am such a d!Ck....lol

So we should confine our discussions here to the actual release but shouldn't discuss anything trivial like cover art or disc art.

Hmmmm...

It is only 2,000+ miles away but you are more then welcome to come see & hear it. The order I will watch them is 4 ~ 5 ~ 6 ~ 1 ~ 2 ~ 3(by release) May just try to do it all in one weekend .

As for the art on the disks. It does not matter for I am not watching the disc when I am enjoying the movie. The pics posted before of the discs are probably just blank so people don't know what they will look like.

Preliminary artwork is always subject to change. You'd be amazed at the little tweaks and number of them they do for some releases before arriving at their final form.

I know, I wish this release would hurry up and get here. And you never know we might not have seen the final box or disc art yet and the supplements they have listed might not be complete. George has usually been very good at providing quality for us in the past and I see no reason that this would change.
