Only Episode I.

Can't blame anyone, we have hundreds of pages in this thread. Like I said before, we need to compile the info and have a sticky or put it in the first post so that we don't have to discuss the same thing over and over again.

All people need to remember is what the '04 DVD box set looked liked in terms of new enhanced visual effects and what the Prequels looked like on their DVD releases.

The versions on the Blu Rays will be enhancements from those releases, nothing else.

One half of me just wants the 1997 editions in HD. I just missed Star Wars when it came out, but by the time the S.E's came out it was a really exciting time - great to see the kids getting so involved with them like as if they were brand new films. I did have 'ANH' on VHS, but 1997 was a big deal for a new generation of people, just was the original 1977> releases were. The 2004 transfer was just way too dark for me, and the tie in's with the P.T just silly.

So if the info about Lucas enhancing the movies for one final edition is true, what are expecting to be changed or enhanced? What do do think will be changed and what are you wishing for? This goes out to those who welcome the changes in general.

I think the so-called "final enhancements" will be, largely, unnoticeable on first viewing. Consider how many tiny changes were made the 2004 editions and I believe the Blu-ray will contain a host more, simply because with the film now being in the digital realm (and having much better technology at his disposal), Lucas simply won't keep hands off the buttons.

So what you are getting is the ONE definitive version which evolved out of the 77, 78, 97 and 2004 evolutionary steps for "a new Hope" or "Star Wars" as you know it.

But again, we donīt even know if the info given by an Amazon.com reviewer is legit.
Amazon still has the runtime of the OT at 117mins and a PG-13 rating. I agree with Shelldweller that we will most likely be getting the 2004 release with all the issues fixed. My biggest issues is they had better fix the lightsabers!!!

Funny to pre-judge this release before it's even out. Waiting doesn't seem to apply here, thinking that is obviously going to be so terrible. Well, don't get the damn set then.

I'd be fine with the Yoda replacement in TPM, cuz I'll never watch it. He won't ever touch the Yoda puppet in Empire and Jedi.

I'd also be fine if he fixed the Han/Greedo scene. All I want is to see Han shoot first in 1080p. I know it'll never happen, but a man can dream, can't he?

I have the right to be pessimistic just as much as others being optimistic. Assuming it will be good is still an assumption. Getting pissy won't change that... But, hey, if you liked the 2004 release then I am sure you will LOVE the 2011 Blu release!

Assuming the actual transfers will be good is a reasonable assumption though, based on the standards since BD first came out, and the demand for the set. But I'm saying is no point in getting the set if you think it's gonna be crap. I don't have the DVDs, only the VHS releases, 'cause I was waiting for this set.

I'll just leave it as a hope for the best, but just not expecting it. Luckily there will be tons of reviews before it comes out.

This is so true. Probably one of the few guarantees with respects to this release. The reviews will be all over the place with every detail under a scope.

Whoa! Let's not get too excited because an 'Amazon reviewer' said that there would be 3 different versions of films on the discs. I could have typed that up and posted it on amazon... jeez.

Anyway, just judging by that lil bit that was posted about 20 pages ago (the picture of Vader in his Tie Fighter) my hopes are not really high. The red lights behind Vader still looked VERY pink to my eye. But we'll see. There should be an offical trailer in a few weeks once those big ol comic cons get underway.

I didn't attack you, I was asking you to clarify what you were trying to convey. Why would you be happy that there was not seemless braching with options? Not sure how that is a good thing.

Well that was a waste of 2 pages of posts, although I am not sure as to how you are so in the know from across the pond.

That's too bad, there was nothing more special than seeing these films in 77,80 and 83 on the big screen. Maybe someday you will get to see what was so special in full blown HD. I feel sorry for any fan that did not get to experience Star Wars on the big screen when it really was "Star Wars". Well I guess we will jsut have to wait and see on the release. I would purchase if it were the 97 editions but if its only that crappy 2004 cut then I will just have to keep on keepin on... and enjoy and treasure what Steve Spielberg puts out instead. At least Mr. Fiddlesticks can't get his hands on Raiders.

"Crappy" is a point of view, I believe. It's not wrong for people to actually like the 2004 cut, just as it's not wrong for people to like the originals unaltered, and if you consider the poll on this thread, it brings up some interesting statistics. 40% would go for the Complete Saga, 18% for the original unaltered, and 50% for an Ultimate Box set.

Especially since it's impossible, especially in the case of A New Hope, to seemless branch the 3 versions.

Thank you in advance.
my understanding is that, much like the original versions, the 1997 versions no longer exist. they were the step up from the originals, just like the dvd versions were a step up from the 1997 versions. save yourself the headache and assume everytime there is a new release, there will be changes and the past version is dead and gone.

the real funny part in all of this is for me is that it creates a little merchandise problem. since these bluray versions never actually hit film, anything with a film cell has to come from older versions (unless they put the new version on film just for it). so all those displays that places like entertainment earth sells may not be consistent with the modern Lucas view of Star Wars. I have cells at home right now from the 1997 versions - and I think one has the "old" Jabba in it. same with Phantom Menace - I have a strip of 5 with the original Yoda.
