Having Lucas' "Ultimate Vision" isn't a good thing.

If the man is so undecided that he can't get the OT films 'right' in his own eyes after at least 3 different versions and over 30 years, then he's a lousy filmmaker.

If only Spielberg could have controlled Star Wars...

Sadly I doubt that will happen. There's too many different points of view not to avoid arguments.

I should have worded my statement better, speculating is fine since that is the purpose of discussion. However, everyone has their opinions of the releases and you should not try to pass your opinions as facts .

Here you'll get a detailed description of Disc 9. The content is pretty underwhelming but I'm buying the Complete Box-Set anyway...
Still can't believe that there's no sign of any of the DVD documentaries. Leaving out The Beginning and Empire Of Dreams is utter foolishness.

I know this is pretty much the worst possible question to ask, but what exactly IS the debate in this thread?

What are people complaining about? Have there been screenshots released for this set? Are they green tinted?

Or is it about the usual OT vs SE debate?

Thanks.

There is more than one debate on this thread, that's for sure. And no, there haven't been screenshots released for this set, it's still months away, but there has been discussion nonetheless of the quality of the transfers.

So how can there discussions on the quality of the transfers when there hasn't been screenshots and/or video?

Do we have reason to believe the transfers will suck?

It just happens for a number of reasons, including hatred towards Lucas, for one. For me, I will judge them for myself when I have them in my possession.

That's disappointing to me as welll. It would have been nice having a "kitchen sink" set with everything new and old included. As long as the rest of this set delivers I can deal with it.

Default All We Know

How is it selfish when a director on each release enhances the movie-experience and invests so much energy and care to give his latest vision to the fans. He could have said "I don't care! Star Wars sells anyway. Why bother?" but he obviously wants audiences to experience the six-part-Saga as seamlessly as possible. I deeply appreciate it. And no, not every director includes every cut and version on the movies release. It's his choice because it's his vision and only the guy himself can judge wether the movies benefit from it or not. All we can do is buy it or don't. So easy!

I'm just interested in news about the Blu-Ray Release of Star Wars and all we know so far are some of the Bonus-Features and that there will be only the latest enhanced version of each movie.

How about we all call a truce? As people have already mentioned, the bickering is pointless and serves no useful purpose apart from antagonising each other.

"This bickering is pointless. Lord Vader will provide us with the location of the Rebel fortress by the time this station is operational. We will then crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke."

Do you think there will be a price drop closer to release or will it remain at $89.99? "I am aware many people, through various deals, were able to order theirs for a considerably less amount. Thoughts?

This will be the version released on Blu-ray. Thank you very much for you interest in Star Wars!"

That means there is ONE FINAL edition on the base of the already enhanced Original Movies in Cinemas (1997), Episode 1 on DVD (2000) and OT on DVD (2003). That's great news! Finally we will get Lucas' ultimate vision!
This reply that they're supposedly giving doesn't make sense. There were no 2000 and 2003 versions of any of the films/dvds. The OT on DVD was released late September, 2004. Not 2003. Episode I was released on DVD in October, 2001. Not 2000. Episode II was released on DVD in November, 2002.

So, there were no releases or versions in 2000 or 2003. Either someone at Lucasfilm Publicity is very wrong or the original Amazon poster of the above response was full of it.

I've never understood the speculation on what version we're getting. To me, it's been clear since they mentioned it last fall. We were getting the 2004 versions with more changes.

I also don't believe that we're getting Lucas' "ultimate vision" either. He doesn't have one for the OT, in my opinion. Well, he did. His original vision was the theatrical versions. So, we had the '77, '80, and '83 vision. Then, we had the '97 vision which he stated on the '97 SE featurette as the way he always intended the films to be and his true vision. But, we then got the 2004 vision. Now, we're getting the 2011 vision and probably a 3D vision with more changes. Call me a cynic but I truly believe that these never-ending changes and ever-changing vision has become nothing more than the business model at Lucasfilm. The changes and the constant speculation of future changes throughout the fanbase creates a lot of talk and interest in the franchise and helps sell the films on home video each time they're released.

Well the LOTR:EE just dropped to $69.99 from $83.99 two days ago. I'm hoping the same thing will happen with this set, I'm expecting for $74.99 or lower.

I'm expecting a drop. I'm guessing $79.99, but hopefully lower.

I don't think it has anything to do with any hatred toward Lucas or anything like that. It's too early to speculate on the transfers of course. We'll likely have something concrete this time next month from Comic-Con. On the other hand, the worry about the transfers has come about for a few different reasons. I'm not saying I agree at all but this is what people are citing as their reason for concern:

In the May 4th release, there was no mention of there having been new transfers. You can't judge by trailers but the trailer for this set from last fall still had the same flawed lightsabers in front of the Emperor in ROTJ. In some recent screenshots, the colors looked the same as the flawed 2004 set. Lastly, Steve Sansweet mentioned a few years ago that the HD transfers had already been done for some time but they were waiting to release the Blu-rays due to Blu-ray having limited market penetration at the time. In 2004, they created the 1080p transfers for the OT that were used in the 2004 set. AOTC and ROTS were filmed in 1080p so Lucas may see no need in creating a better transfer for the OT.

You see, all speculation based on the above. Nothing concrete to go on but that's pretty much the source of the worry. Not any "hating" or "bashing" of Lucas.
