I am looking forward to the blu-ray box set of the star wars saga on September 16th. It's going to be fun watching all the films in 1080p HD and listening to it in DTS HD Master audio 6.1. And it's going to be the proper aspect ratio and it won't be compressed on some channel on cable or satellite. Another thing a lot of people for whatever reason are judging the reason before it comes out 1st off we don't know what the set will look like and we need to reserve our judgment for the star wars saga blu-ray box set until it comes out. The Star Wars saga on blu-ray is the biggest release in the history of the blu-ray format and we should be happy about it yes it whould be nice to have the original theatrical cuts of the original trilogy on the blu-ray box set but those will be released later in a future release so we should just be happy that the star wars films are coming to blu-ray.

Tell us to reserve judgment until it's released -OR- tell us to be happy about it but for the love of The Creator please stop telling us to do both.

Not to be a hater but one thing I do not care for is the cover art for any of the new sets. I have not found a perfect Star Wars cover yet for any release. If I were a fan of the PT and the SE's and were buying the "Complete Saga" I think I would use a nice 6 disc blu case and use this as the cover art.

That looks really cool, but any chance of making a slight variation of it with the normal Star Wars logo on the front instead of the "SW" abbreviation?

Ha...Im not a cover artist, so you would have to get the cover from an official place and ask the original artist.

I think that's something everyone can agree on, PT fans, OT fans, and UOT fans alike. That being that the box art is underwhelming. Haha, but that customized one looks more like what we should be getting, given the cover art on all the DVDs.

This is an excellent read! Man, Lucas is pissing me off! The special edition of the trilogy was done in 95 by going back to the OCN. The digital effects added in were done in 2K. So what you have and what was scanned in 2004 for the dvd was the 35mm OCN of the SE in 1.9K, Lowry admits this was only acceptable since they were being done on dvd for a 480i release. Even though at the time Lowry had done many 4K projects. Lowry see's 1.9K unacceptable for HD content and rightly so. In a nutshell the entire special edition trilogy could have been rescanned at 8K (4K would be fine with me) and completed for the bluray for less than $1,000,000. In 2004 the dvd trilogy made $100,000,000 on it's first day alone. I would guess the blurays will make similiar profits. This is really unacceptable if Lucas is so fu{|/!ng lazy to use the 1.9K masters from the 2004 dvd's. I am getting sick of studios using dvd masters for blurays! Hopefully this is not the case, but for films of this magnitude it is utterly unacceptable and a real slap in the face to consumers.

Thanks, but yes, we know that already and has discussed a good many times.

Anyway, I hope we get digibook style of packaging, just like the first season of The Clone Wars but with a slipbox.

dv8pdx did some pretty sweet cover art for the original trilogy, at least to my tastes (from what I remember, it's been a while). I don't think he ever finished it though, which is a shame. Dude is friggin' talented.

Default Another Lucasfilm email response

I had already posted my first email response from LFL in this thread on page 772. I asked about "From Star Wars to Jedi" and "Empire of Dreams". She had confirmed what we already knew. They're not on the set.

Someone on another board mentioned the three prequel docs that I hadn't asked about in the first email. "The Beginning", "From Puppets to Pixels", and "Within a Minute". Whether you liked the prequels or not, those three docs should have been on this set along with the two OT docs I asked about, in my opinion.

I sent a new email asking about the three prequel docs and if there was any chance that FSWTJ and EOD would see a separate or store exclusive release. Here's what I received back:

-----

Dear -----,

Thanks for your follow up e-mail.

Regarding the special features on the upcoming Star Wars Saga Blu-ray release, all the features that will be presented in the set are listed on the official press release. It’s quite a comprehensive collection. The three discs of behind-the-scenes content and documentaries are over 40 hours of material and deep discs of archival material, some never seen before.

Outside of that, I can say that I am looking forward to this September and watching the Saga when it is released on the 16th too!

Sincerely,

Connie

There's not much there, really. In the first response, she mentioned that the press release didn't reflect the contents of the set in their entirety. In this one, she basically says that the press release contains all the information on the features. She is basically telling me in a polite way, "I've told you all I can. Now please go away". In case any of you want to email them, it's:

publicity@lucasfilm.com

For what it's worth, I think the special features are pretty reasonable. I've said before it's impossible to include everything about Star Wars on one set. They probably went and picked what (in their eyes at least) are the best features for this set. With that in mind, the features seem pretty good to me.

So far i'm not impressed with the extra content...

No new Audio commentaries by the cast.
No new documentaries-interviews.
No Holiday special (for those that want it and like it)
No word on the deleted scenes. Are they going to be put back in?
No word on the new special effects.

WTF????

Why should they put back in the deleted scenes. They were deleted for a reason.

Because they were deleted for bad special effects...like the Luke skywalker scene at the beginning of ROTJ. it was taken out because the background looked bad....

the Jabba the Hutt scene was also put in with the new Jabba. why not put them in?????

And they were left out because of time restraints, but this is a home release..where people have all day to watch the movie. Put them back in, who says this can't be done? it has been done in the past with the biggs and jabba scene..

Wacko jackson did it for 3+ hours!

Do you really think when Lucas puts back all the deleted scenes the films will be better? I don't think so. They will suck big time. You can watch the deleted scenes on discs 7 and 8 where they belong.

This prejudicial nonsense has got to stop. You're only making it worse for yourself by saying the release is gonna be crap. There is a simple solution, don't buy it. Yeah, I'm sure it's real easy to put 30+years of everything Star Wars into one release.
