Their's a lot of documentaries missing from the blu-ray box set of the star wars saga. From Star Wars to Jedi , Empire Of Dreams , Star Wars the Legacy Revealed , The German Making Of Empire Strikes Back documentary and all of the prequel documentaries The Beginning The Making Of Episode 1 , From Puppets to Pixels: Digital Characters in 'Episode II , Films Arre Not Release They Escape The Sound Design Of Episode II , State of the Art: The Pre-Visualization of Episode II and Within a Minute: The Making of Episode III. As well as The BBC documentary Omnibus Star Wars. Those could have been on the blu-ray box set. Their should have been a 10th blu-ray disc created just for those documentaries alone insted we got a hour long documentary on spoofs and one on the 501st. But I am happy where getting the vintage making of documentaries , the making of star wars , spfx the making of the empire strikes back and classic creatures the making of return of the jedi. Overall I am excited about the documentaries on the saga blu-ray box set but their could have been more added.

I own the 30th Anniversary Edition of Close Encounters, and it includes THREE versions of the film. Theatrical, Special Edition and Director's Cut.

For those of you new to Planet Earth, Spielberg and Lucas are good friends...
But unlike Lucas, Spielberg does include the original cut when something is altered. And even Spielberg apparently cannot convince Lucas, or has stopped trying. So let's hope Lucas will change his mind, like he did after he gave the speech about film preservation.

Mesa doing nothing, mesa got banished... mesa back!

Ok, letīs try to get back to the subject. It has been confirmed (if the haters believe it or not) that the whole saga will only be released in their latest and definitive form which is closest to the filmmakers vision. I dare to say that I couldnīt be happier about it and respect Lucas for maintaining his integrity. So please stop complaining about Lucas not releasing the theatrical versions again. Itīs confirmed that they wonīt be part of the boxset which this thread is about.

About the Special Features... Iīm not really excited about the specials on Disc 9. Canīt imagine watching Star Warriors, Spoofs and Tech even once. But I think we can still expect a lot on discs 7 and 8. We know we get 90 Mins worth of deleted and extended scenes which is really great.

I canīt wait for September to finally get this Box-Set.

Just my two pence here.
I never stated in my post that you like the prequels better than the OT. I stated that I thought I remembered you being a prequel fan, based on your postings, as opposed to not liking the prequels. Being an OT fan is already assumed, for all of us.

Since you mentioned that you didn't have the DVD's, I thought it would be worth telling you about the nice extras on the prequel DVD's and the OT bonus DVD. Considering that these great extras don't appear to be porting over to the BD set, they're worth picking up, for any fan. Just trying to help.

I don't believe that people have to accept the bonus content quietly. You're right, we can't change it, but we can certainly voice our opinions in a thread dedicated to Star Wars. Whether those opinions are positive or negative doesn't matter. It also would make sense to voice those opinions to Lucasfilm, whether it helps or not. If they know people want certain things, it may help on the next release or even help to generate a separate release of bonus features. Doubtful on the separate release thing. Just thought I'd throw that in.

We do agree on one thing. Getting the films with great A/V quality, provided the 2004 transfer/audio problems are corrected, along with the bonus content we are getting, is worth the $90 asking price. My complaints about this set never involved monetary value.

You've got to admit, my idea for a 10th disc was a pretty good one.

For simplicity's sake, they could have even left Disc 9 as they have it now. Add a Disc 10 that includes "The Beginning", "From Puppets to Pixels", "Within a Minute", "Empire of Dreams", "From Star Wars to Jedi", and maybe even "George Lucas: A&E Biography", "Star Wars: Music by John Williams(BBC)", "Star Wars: A Musical Journey", "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed", and "The Mythology of Star Wars", since they're all likely SD, and that would have substantially improved this release. Considering that they're all likely SD, a BD-50 would have worked fine. Call the disc "Star Wars Documentaries II".

Ah right. That's fair enough The extras on the DVDs seem good, usually assumed to be ported over to Blu-ray releases. Might pick up the DVDs afterwards. If we were being listened to, they'd know how passionate we are for this and what we want in the set. A/V quality = top notch at least or I don't know what I'll do.

Agreed. As big a fan as I am of good bonus features, the greatest concern will always be the A/V quality of the films.

Does it mean definitive until the next release? What's the closest to his vision? Will this be the last time he tinkers with his vision? Or will the next release in whatever format give us a whole new definitive set?

The problem with deleted scenes is they are usually only watched once. Not to mention some of those scenes are really bogus. In fact Mark Hamill claimed that he never even remembered filming the light sabre construction scene back in 82 and said that was not even him in that shot. Was this filmed in 82?
Whether it's him or not it's really a nothing scene that doesn't make or break the film anyhow. I can see why it was left on the cutting room floor.

I think I know now what the problem is... I wouldn't call the updated movies "cuts" or "versions" where you can pick your favorite.

I can say "I like the theatrical release of a movie (Avatar, Lord Of The Rings, ...) better than the Director's or extended Cut." In the case of Star Wars it is ALWAYS THE SAME "CUT" if you will. The changes are always cosmetical, technical enhancements. In the way the Star Wars Saga was conceived and structured there is no room for different "versions" simultanously because the most important thing is the coherence of the whole 6-part-saga - and that is and always was the Project that is called Star Wars.

"Fans" who resent the way Lucas releases his movies dislike Star Wars at it's core! If I'd resent something from the core (in my case Harry Potter, Avatar, Twilight,...) then I keep away from it and don't bicker endlessly about how I would like these movies to be something they are not supposed to be - cause obviously they are for a different audience than me.

Not of "fandom" - of artistic integrity and freedom! I don't care for "fans" AT ALL - but I admire what Lucas has achieved with the Star Wars Narrative!

Ive always thought that the original Star Wars trilogy was liked (loved?) by film fans and fans of "star wars". The prequel trilogy is loved by "star wars" fans, not film fans.

I am a film fan.

There are several interviews with Lucas in all forms of print from 83 to 93 that he was finished and was never going to revisit the films and finish 1-3 or 6-9. And that changes are just cosmetical, how can you dare even say that?

Sigh...ok ok you win! Yes the box set is without fault. Lucas has done nothing wrong in thirty something years. Yes we who loved, lived and breathed SW from 77-97 for twenty years and prefer the great classic films that were created are not real fans. Whew....now you can get back to discussing the greatness that is Jar Jar Binks and Hayden Christensen.
This cherrypicking gets really, really old and bores me to death! If you are a fan of let's say Star Trek - there is a Dozen Movies and hundreds of TV-episodes... When you hate three of the Movies and a couple of Episodes you can still say I'm a fan or especially like Star Trek. But when you hate most of it and despise any new release and presentation why do you care AT ALL? I really don't get it...

With Star Wars we only got 6 equally beautiful Movies - Thats it! If you hate most of the Stuff why are you looking forward to the Blu-Ray Set? It's annoying to always bicker and fight about if one basically loves or hates the movies in the first place. It's assumed that you like and care for the 6 movies - why else would you bother to wait for them to be released on Blu-Ray?

Yes it is. There is a difference between "most recently updated" (which might have bee 2004 versions) and "additional edits by the filmmaker"...
and besides, if it was confirmed months ago why keeps the subject coming up?
