What is very puzzling is that besides the may the 4th announcement and the CES announcement back in January and also the comic con stuff we have not heard anything from LFL about a list of what the extra features on discs 7 and 8 and if their was additional work done to the films also if the errors from the OT DVD have been addressed. It's like their keeping this stuff a secret until the September 16th release date.

Default Star Wars blu-ray packaging - oh noooooo!

Looks like Fox is repeating their Alien fiasco for the Star Wars set. Scratches galore. Nightmare.

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Comp...1622384&sr=8-4

Hopefully the UK edition will come in plastic trays, like the Alien set.

Okay.

Well looking at the amazon.co.uk listing the UK set comes in plastic trays with a booklet. So that's the one for me. Just a shame about the certificate markings, never did like those despite being British and living with them for the last 39 years!

I was hoping for an exclusive package that came in an 'R2-D2' shaped package and you open his head and the DVDs come out like a Pez dispenser or something cool like that for the real geeks (me, myself, and I included). So far though, the only 'special' packaging yet is the free numbered litho from foxconnect.com. Sorry, lithos don't do it for me . Someone needs to come-up with something special .

Love the Alien packaging. Easily the nicest packaging of any set I own. Surprised anyone has complaints and even more surprised it'd be because of scratching, my discs are pristine. I thought the packaging for the Star Wars set was actually kind of lame -- the art isn't that great -- but knowing it's book-style like Alien goes a long way to making me feel better about buying it.

Maybe it's just me, but with the scratch resistant coating on BDs, if you're scratching your discs just taking it in and out of the packaging, you're doing it wrong, imho. But, I am very methodical about handling my discs to avoid scratches anyway and liked the Alien Anthology packaging, so take that for what it's worth.

I agree. Your discs will be fine.

This is just something new to complain about. Sometimes I wonder if people on these forums like anything...

Yeah, I buy 90% of my Blu-Rays used at pawnshops and I've yet to find any that were scratched. That coating works like a charm.

Nope, I tried the US Alien set and a couple of discs were already scratched, clearly by whatever machine slid them over the rough cardboard and nasty sharp "envelope" opening. It didn't matter how careful I was, the damage was already done.

Pushing any optical disc in and out of a cardboard envelope is never good, especially when they are as tight as the Alien set.

My UK discs, on the other hand, are pristine.

I loved the packaging for the Alien Set. So I am glad to see it used here as well.

But did they play OK? I've had a bunch of used blu-rays with light to moderate scratches and they all work just fine.

The coating is ridiculously protective - in fact I've found it difficult to actually scratch a disc. It's pretty much a non-issue at this point if you have small scratches. Now, if you're taking a knife to your discs, that's a different story.

But just having them rub against a piece of paper when you slide the disc out? Nope, not gonna cause damage, I'm sorry. And you're not gonna convince me otherwise.

Your U.S. Star Wars discs will be just fine.

I don't doubt that you had scratched discs but personally, I've bought well over 100 used Blu-rays (in all sorts of cases) and not a single one had any scratches.

I like the packaging for the complete saga the concept is great but it could have been done better. If the U.S. discs had the disc art here's what I would have gone with : Episode 1 Darth Maul , Episode 2 Count Dooku or Jango Fett , Episode 3 Sith anakin skywalker , Episode 4 Luke Skywalker , Episode 5 Yoda , Episode 6 Darth Vader , The 3 Extra blu-ray as far as the disc art keep it the way it is with R2-D2 , Lando and C-3PO.

I can only speak for myself. Again, zero scratched discs among probably 250 used discs.

Back when Blu-Ray was brand new, I remember watching a YouTube video of some dude who had the free Talladega Nights Blu and used it to test the protective coating. He rubbed it on rough surfaces, I think he keyed it, and finally he actually took steel wool to the bottom of it and the PS3 still read the disc afterward.

So is that packaging really official as in that is what the final set is going to look like or is there still a chance for them to make changes? Personally I don't really care how they come, the only Boxed set I have that really sucked for packaging was TMNT and besides being a little annoying there really is nothing wrong with it.

So anyone think that there might be any hidden documentaries and other special features that you will have to look for or is everything that has been revealed all that is going to be included?

It's not the packaging itself that is scratching the discs... it's the fact that if dust or debris happens to get inside, it's hard to see or clean out (if it get under the paper)

Perhaps you were lucky to get a box without any dust, some of my discs were scratched the very first time I took them out

I've been taking discs out of cases since the early days of DVD, hate to break it to you, but I don't think I'm doing it "wrong"... but thats only IMO...

Perhaps dust made it's way into my case in the factory... is that my fault? No! In an amaray case, it's easy to see dust and wipe it away, in a paper book where half the disc holder is covered in another sheet of cardboard, it's a bit harder to see/clean dust...

I thought I was the only person who got this. Its not the packaging, but dust and grit that causes the scratches. If yu get a set and it is scratched when you open it that is an issue that occurred at the packaging plant. You can send it back for a replacememt. If the scratches happen after you open it I have to ask how you are storing your discs because no dust or grit should be collecting in the set as it should be closed except when you are taking the disc out to watch and the movie should be going back in the case after watching it.

Check ths out. They do a comparison between the bluray screenshots released on Starwars.com and other sources including the HDTV broadcasts and it appears the black crush has been worked on. Scroll down a bit.
