At the end of the day, this release will be nowehere as bad as someone of you will make it out to be but the nitpicking will continue and the drama as well but because it's not the Star Wars you want. It as nothing to do with quality.

I don't find myself agreeing with you much, but that is a perfect point. Well said.

It's both and; We want a quality release of Star Wars. Pretty simple, actually.

There seems to be drama on both sides. Do you agree?

My standard of quality may be much different than others. So be it. There should be as much room in here for the pessimistic that has already seen the pattern of what Lucas will release, just like there is room in here for the praise and excitement thinking George can do no wrong (not to mention everyone in between).

EVERYONE in here is hoping for an awesome release, EVERYONE... I am just not holding my breath. This thread is pretty entertaining.... and then at the end of the day is several pages shorter after the mods deem what is worthy to keep in here.

Is it worth doing all of this when things will NOT change whether we agree or disagree with the transfer?

Also, when are you going to realize that the Star Wars movies are George Lucas' movies, not yours!! (this ties into the professional frustrations mentioned above) We already paid a ticket price to watch the movie in theatres, or to buy the VHS, Laserdisc or DVD editions at home...that does NOT give us any right to anything, other than complain (which we have done in now 869 pages)...if he wants to make them 3D, black and white, letterbox, green tinted, blue tinted, with a whole in the middle, Chewbacca pink, red or blue, Yoda as a puppet or CG character, they are HIS CREATIONS and can do whatever he wants with them, whether WE like them or not.

As for me, I already pre-ordered the whole saga from DD, less than $70, which is not bad compared to LOTR EE (and many other special edition boxsets), and like so many, will pop in TPM first!

Wow, those are the wisest words I have read around here for a long time. I agree with you and apparently you can state your point more clearly than I can without getting attacked.

It all depends. Many of the problems with the 2004 DVDs are rather obvious and stand out when watching it. If this is merely the 2004 transfers with some additional brightness, many of those problems may still exist.

You have to keep in mind that with the LOTR issue, that was no previous DVD (or any other format) release with the green tint added to it. So the ONLY basis that many people had to judge it were screen shots. I do agree that screen shots alone aren't typically the best way to judge a transfer. However, we DO have the previous 2004 DVDs of Star Wars that we have seen in motion (and have seen the problems and errors in motion) on our TVs as a reference for comparison here. And when the same problems from the 2004 DVDs are showing up in the recent Blu-Ray promotional images and videos... and when a simple brightness or gama tweek can be done to a screen capture from the 2004 DVD and result in an image that looks almost identical to some of the screen caps that are supposedly coming from the Blu-Rays, that does say a lot. It's not enough to make a final judgement, but it's enough to be cause for concern.

At the end of the day, the judgement will be based on the final product, and it has EVERYTHING to do with quality. But again, this is just the kind of post that lumps all of the complaints about Star Wars (and the people making them) together and making blanket generalizations about them, without looking at things individually. I've already said frequently that even though I do want things like the UOT released at some point, that I will be happy with this release (even with all of the deliberate changes done in 1997 and 2004) if we can just get a proper looking new transfer. If that's what we get, then I will be happy with it and that will be one less complaint. I think Adywan is in a similar position, as are many people posting here who are concerned about this issue.

For me it IS about the quality. I want Star Wars on blu ray, but I want it to look how it should (consistent through all six films). The color, going by the offical screen caps on the Star Wars Blu Ray site, still appears to be off. Some are making this discussion about the OT being unaltered or whatever, but that isn't the discussion at hand.

My opinion on the matter is that the blu rays are going to be coming from the bad color timed 2004 DVD masters just with the gamma/brightness pumped up a bit. Which (to me) is very disappointing, and something worth pondering ordering the PT only and cancelling the Complete Saga. I am thinking that TPM got a new transfer (and thank Jeebus for that) because they are working on converting it to 3D. When/if they get to the OT, then I am guessing Lucas will do new masters of the OT as it will be rather hard for them NOT to notice the issues with the missing cores in the Lightsabers in Jedi.

So, from a ceratin point of view, you are right. This isn't the Star Wars I want on blu ray. If I want a bad copy with crushed blacks, blue snow and pink lightsabers I can go to the bargin bin at walmart and get the DVDs.

Okay so far we have been shown through several online sites that claim to have seen clips from EP2+EP3 and, EP4.
On the Star Wars Blu-Ray site we have seen pics of EP5+EP6.
There is a pic of EP1 on the Blu-ray site.
But no one has seen any clips from EP1 or even EP5+EP6.

Why??

Well I contacted Lucasfilm a while ago and got an answer.
Here´s what I wrote:

".... there have been some rumors concerning the Star Wars: Complete Saga blu-ray release.
I assume the versions of the movies being released on blu-ray will be all new digitally enhanced versions of the movies. Therefore there will be only one version of each film which will be closest to George Lucas´ vision. I´d be happy if you can you confirm that. ...."

Here´s the answer from Lucasfilm:

".... Yes, this is in fact the case. The Blu-ray discs will feature the 1997, 2000, and 2003 versions of the film, with additional edits made by the filmmaker. There is now one definitive version of the films thanks to technological advances, which have made it possible to achieve the visual effects the filmmaker originally intended. This will be the version released on Blu-ray. Thank you very much for you interest in Star Wars! ...."

Well, that's quite a mystery then. Oh well, release is getting closer and closer. Don't think I'll contact them again after trying several times.

I would think so ... maybe the films were edited in 2003 and released in 2004, therfore Lucasfilm refers to them as the 2003 versions.
