Yeah, cause that would make sense.

Lets introduce Chewbacca in Episode III only to replace him with Jar Jar Binks in the Original Trilogy, a character who was basically non-existent in the last movie. I can see that happen.

Lucas bashers are so 1999, get over it already.

Sebastian Shaw never played an unscarred Anakin, other than that shot they replaced him.

I will buy ANYTHING, the Special Edition of the original trilogy, the prequels, any extended, tinkered, retro-fitted version... but ONLY as extra features.

The make-it-or-break-it issue for me is the inclusion of THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM, preserved in the best possible audiovideo presentation.

Anything else is welcome, and, much as I dislike the prequels, I would certainly buy a mega-ultimate-boxset with ALL permutations and all the extra features they can find and fit, no matter how mega could be the price for that...

But again, I insist, ONLY as long as the originals are provided in original form, and with the required care.

So, I guess my blu-ray purchase future will be STAR WARS-less...

So he did play Anakin, then. Even if it's one shot that's replaced, it's still him.

It still makes no sense for him not to look like Hayden, even aging Anakin he would be around 45 years old maximum and not the 60+-ish Sebastian Shaw.

Shaw's performance is intact as the dying Vader.

Yeah, my beef with the ending scene is in the execution (Hayden ghost doesn't appear to be looking in the same direction as the Guiness and Muppet ghosts) rather than the concept.

The only concept in the SE I'm not fond of is Greedo shooting at all. There's just no way you can miss when you're that close.

It might be my inclination for nostalgia, but I prefer the Yoda puppets to the CGI Yoda.

I actually support the CGI Yoga idea...he looks great in the prequel trilogy. In some scenes he looks great in the original trilogy, but in others, like a joke. That would be a nice touch of continuity.

I think they need to go with CGI Yoda. He still look not to bad in Empire but in Phantom Menace he look's terrible.

The biggest thing is what Gene hit on: Yoda should look consistent in the movies. He obviously needs to look older in Ep5 and perhaps even older in Ep6, but should be roughly the same stock instead of essentially 3 different characters (Ep5/Ep6, Ep1 completely sticks out, and the Ep3).

I'd also add that the Ep2 CGI needs to be redone to more closely match the Ep3 model and insert that same CGI into Ep1. Then make an aged version to go in the OT.

No one is arguing with replacing Yoda in TPM. That muppet looks nothing like the Eps 2-3 and 5-6 Yoda.

But they can't change the Empire and Jedi muppet. They just can't. The interaction between Mark Hammil and the muppet is what makes those scenes pop. I don't for one second question that it's not two characters inhabiting the same space. A new CGI Yoda* would stick out like a sour thumb and completely take you out of the scene.

And it wouldn't surprise me that if they went CGI, they would have Yoda flipping and flying all over the place. You know, because that would be like so totally awesome!

(* The only leeway I would give would be for the force ghost scene)

Given Yoda is 800 years old, a few years is probably not going to make him look any different from from Episode 5 and 6.

There has to be strong appreciation for the original yoda muppet (which really does look the best!) which I would leave. I would just re-do ep. 1 Yoda to match ep 2-3 Yoda. Maybe they can even tweak ep. 2-3 Yoda to look even more so like the muppet. Of course, it's Lucas's decision so who knows.

Right. But that would extend to the 18-20 years or so between Episode 3 and Episode 5, no? Unless living in a swamp after getting beat down by the Dark Lord of the Sith is that bad for you.

I always thought it was great work... but it's obviously a muppet. I think they should very carefully do it, of course... I'd imagine a sort of half CGI, half real/muppet would be the way to go rather than just replacing. Think of it this way, they have the perfect stand-in to make it less obviously fake. The eyes, if not the whole face/head could still be used but CGI used for texturing, as well as things like his legs and letting him actually walk (as opposed to being moved by a puppeteer).

Oh and Sith, keep forgetting to reply to you, sorry: Lakers Threepeat!

So you're comparing a 1980 film with a 2005 movie?

I can't compare 2010 CGI and compositing tech.

But thinking Yoda would look somehow worse than the muppet he is (especially apparent in HD) is misguided.

If they can replace Yoda and look as good or even better I say go for it.

I also hope they CGI Yoda, as long as they do it well and it doesn't distract from the rest of the movie.
