If you really want them that badly, I suggest you get them ASAP when/if you find them in a store at a normal price.
the 2004 box set, 2006 "Limited Edition" Releases and the 2008 box sets are all "out of print"

but they are still readily available at stores I visit, and have been for several years.

In HMV I was looking at the prequel box in 2008 when it first came out, dropped the box and put a minor ding on two of the corners. The box is still there, along with another that has been with it for over 6 months.

I don't want them that badly nor am I worried about them being unavailable any time soon.

THe VHS sets are "out of print" as well, but I'm not having any problem getting my hands on them... but I know thats not a fair comparison

They had a second disc containing the original unaltered trilogy in non-anamorphic laserdisc resolution.

[Sigh...] He's just fooling around (hence the face). Everyone in this thread knows the difference between the 2004 and 2006 releases and whatnot.

But they were advertised as being "Limited Editions" but are still readily available 5 years later... that's not very "Limited" is it?

Agreed. I just wish those transfers would have been anamorphic and in 480. Then I probably wouldn't have sold them.

And they were only produced for a limited time, IIRC. Naturally, they produced huge quantities and stores ordered huge quantities.

So there's still copies available at stores in a lot of areas. As for the transfers, they don't look bad. But I never watch those versions anyway.

Yes, it's pretty obvious it was a throw-together package instead of Lucasfilms taking to time to use the masters that they made the LDs with

I'd like to hunt down a set of the 93 Laserdiscs. I have plenty of Letterboxed laserdiscs that look better than the Star Wars bonus discs, I'll bet a decent amount of quality was lost during the analog > digital conversion... though I'm not sure why, as they had an 8 GB DVD with no commentary tracks or extras...

The star wars saga blu-ray is going to be the best quality for all 6 films to date better than the dvd's. Now I know lots are jumping to conclusions and assuming that the same transfers from the dvd will be used which will still don't know until the actual discs come out and also complaing about the saga box art and disc art for the discs. I agree the box art and disc art coould be better but come September 16th when we all get the actual blu-ray box set and pop the disc in our blu-ray players it won't matter what complaints we do have about the blu-ray box set. It's star wars the complete saga on blu-ray and I'm looking forward to enjoying the blu-ray box set.

To be honest, I would have much rather they been back in the films. Branching, so you could pick to watch them or not.

I find random compilations of deleted scenes to be pretty boring, even for films I love. I'll watch these, probably once, but he's already mucked to all heck with the films, I don't see why he just doesn't continue. That was always my problem with the SE's - not that they existed, but that they (especially Star Wars) were just done so terribly with such awful CGI. CGI just wasn't ready in the mid-90's to do what he was trying to do. Now, it is - he can do anything he wants. So I wish he'd REALLY jump in and do it right.

The deleted scenes were my #1 excitement factor about this release, but once I found out they are just going to be able to be watched in some random extras disc, my excitement for them became much much less.

The same reason why some fans believe the green lightsaber aboard the Falcon in A New Hope is an "artistic decision" designed to foreshadow Luke's green lightsaber in Return of the Jedi.

I remember back in September of 2006 when the Original Version of The Trilogy finally hit DVD, that even though they were Non-Anamorphic Laserdisc Transfers from 1993, they did look better than the 1993 Laserdiscs. However the 2006 Original Version DVDs did blow away the quality of my Widescreen VHS Tapes of The Original Versions.

Back then in 2006, Lucasfilm should have gone ahead and done an
High Definition Restoration of the Original Versions in Anamorphic Widescreen with 6.1 Surround Sound.

They should have held off the September 2006 release and done a May 2007 DVD Release of just The Original Versions for a good price. May 2007 would have been a perfect date because it was the 30th Anniversary of the Original Release of the first film. If they did it like that it would have been totally worth the re-purchase of the Original Trilogy on DVD.

As mentioned before, we are getting a bunch of 'spoofs' in the extras department. Why not include the original footage from 'Star Tours' ala Back to the Future? I'm not saying it's the greatest ride, but it would have been nice to have to remember it by; oh wait...George has made a new version now this is how it was meant to be seen and the original doesn't exist anymore, .

I agree, that would complete these Blu-Ray releases for me, I'd love to see at least a small featurette on Star Tours including it's transition into 2.0.

Granted there's the pre-disney version of Star Tours on youtube, but the quality isn't all that crash hot and there's a terrible yellow tinge to it all.

I'm sure they'd still have the original reels for it lying around somewhere.

As I posted quite a while ago, Digital Bits confirmed with Lucasfilm we are getting 45 extended and deleted scenes on the set. That means on average 7/8 scenes per film, so likely we will get an awful lot on the original trilogy as we have seen most of what the prequel trilogy has to offer. You never know adywan, we may get everything you mentioned in your post?

'Finally, here's more very cool Star Wars Blu-ray news. We've finally learned that when the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set streets on 9/16, in addition to the previously released audio commentaries with Lucas and members of the production crew, each film will include a second commentary as well culled together from archival interviews with cast and crew members. What's more, you'll get 45 deleted and extended scenes in all (!), plus new cast and crew interviews and packed interactive galleries featuring images of matte paintings and concept art, as well as "turnarounds" of props, maquettes, models and costumes. Interesting. The 45 deleted/extended scenes look to be the real treasure trove. Should be some interesting stuff in there.'

So everyone gonna cancel there OT and PT sets and go for the complete saga now?

So you are the only one on the planet with that opinion? They look terrible and everyone knows this...it's statements like this that start arguments in this thread. There is no way in hades that you actually believe that the transfer looks good.

Wrong. There's plenty of people that were just happy to have the original cuts on a better/more convenient format than VHS and Laserdisc. I appreciate not having to flip/change large platters. And the transfers do look surprisingly good. Sure they're non-anamorphic, but they look pretty good. But I don't really care how they look, since I consider them inferior cuts and never watch them anyway. Same with my LD's of the Special Editions.

Just because you don't share my opinion, doesn't mean that your opinion is a universal truth. Seems to be you're stating opinions as facts.
