Yeah, and they joked about him being a Fozzie Bear/Grover knock off. The Muppet Show was still huge when Empire came out.

The Wampa they wanted from the beginning: the suit didn't work at the time.

It was more menacing. And as a metaphor it worked extremely well.

Actually, the jokes were more on the way he sounded, not the way he looked. Frank Oz did his voice, so not too surprised that they sounded alike. As I typed, there were fears people would think he was a muppet, but those fears were unfounded for the most part. This forum is the first time I've ever read that people thought OT Yoda needed to be replaced.

The Wampa suit still doesn't work. I liked the close-ups with the puppet. Looked better. Thank the Maker they didn't go with the Rancor suit the second time around!

It wasn't lifeless. It had moving tentacles that grabbed people and it burped! If Lucas wanted the Pit to have more life, perhaps a few more active tentacles and maybe giving the teeth a little animation. But the beak is ridiculous and makes zero sense on this kinda creature.

No I'm talking about that she's looking in a different direction than what she's aiming because in reality she's staring at nothing while Georgie boy yells instructions of 'Faster! More intense!'

Don't listen to the revisionists...the success of Yoda as a special effect (and by the way, a special effect in a film does not refer solely to post-production CGI or stop motion or optical printer gadgetry...it refers to on-set practical wonderments as well) was roundly hailed upon the release of Empire. Empire won a special achievement Academy Award for visual f/x, and Yoda was a huge part of that.

Anyone arguing differently isn't pulling their index cards from the same reality bank as that of history.

I love all six films about equally as a whole saga, and I do often think some things that were done to the Special Editions enhanced the movies and somethings detract from the movies. But a CGI Yoda would RUIN Empire and it would no longer be my favorite of the series. I also think the beak in Jedi was stupid but now that is established I would not want them to change it back. I would be fine with touch ups to the original movie, mostly fixing the light sabers, doing something to make the crumpled tin foil look more like real metal, find a way to introduce some of the deleted scenes back into the movie and that would be fine for me.

Star Wars is a movie I would never want remade but I would be ok with continued enhancements.

They. Who the christ is "they" and who cares? So, the puppet yoda should be replaced because a guy heard muppet jokes in 1980.

No, a puppet Yoda should be replaced because he looks like a puppet.

The space stuff won awards too, didn't it? Doesn't mean it can't be done better today. The Ep3 Yoda >>> Ep5 Yoda. I would think the model needs to be aged a bit more, but c'mon.

Strings on the TIE fighters are just as bad as muppet Yoda.

It really makes me wonder if anybody here ever watched these movies on SPIKE-HD.

Just before they show Ep. IV, I will usually watch some of RotS, and boy does Yoda ever look like a CARTOON character in it and also AotC. Now if they redid the CGI on Yoda RIGHT NOW with the newer CGI tech he would probably look quite a bit better. Who knows. However the PT Yoda cannot even come remotely close to the Empire Yoda.

Absolutely correct.

Those are really poor examples that you posted there, as the close ups of Yoda in the last two prequels looks really bad because the CGI gives him a cartoon like appearance.

Well the problem with that as I pointed out above, is that the CGI Yoda from the prequels looks pretty bad in the closeups as they did not do it well. He looks fake, out of place and distracts from the rest of the movies.

Now with distance shots, they can get away with it.

Again, only for the distance shots as he looks horrible in the closeups.

There are a couple of CGI X-wing and Falcon shots that did look like they were obviously CGI. Though that shot of the Falcon taking off at Mod-Eisley is awesome! I am assuming that new shot was CGI, right?

I agree that they should replace the Yoda in Episode I. But I would prefer if they leave the Yoda in the original trilogy, and in the last 2 prequels alone.
