Well, I just sent my email to Lucasfilm asking about the lightsabers, color timing, use of the 2004 source, etc. I just replied to the last email response they sent me. Hopefully, I hear something. Like before, I'll post the complete text of any response I get.

What about crushed blacks and overall color timing? No mention of that? What does color matching lightsabers mean - matching to what?

The wording there is so loose it can mean anything you interpret it to be. You look at this and say, "Oh, well, that's that! Problem will be fixed!" I say, "Well, you still have to see it to know for sure."

Keep fooling yourself.

It was fun when they opened the official page for the blu-ray, but I think that they would add pictures from time to time, but nothing. what's the point of that page then?

I'm still sceptical if the words are by Journey but they're brought to life: by the cast of Glee....

Not to rain on anyones Lucasfilm email exchange programme parade but has anyone from the media asked Lucasfilm if there have been any changes to the films? I'm not really update with any Blu-ray magazines apart from EMPIRE (which is more of a film magazine) and they didn't even mention the issues with The Lord of the Rings EE Blu's in their very short review. It will be interesting when the reviews hit the stands as the DVD's had pretty glowing reviews all round.

Strawman. We were talking specifically about the lightsaber effects. It's highly unlikely that they meant they were going to have the lightsabers pink throughout the movie.

Strawman. I never said every lightsaber would be pink. I said it's possible that the lightsabers which previously appeared pink still appear pink or even moreso.

Only someone desperate for an argument would infer I meant ALL lightsabers would be pink, when to any person it's obvious I'm talking about Vader. In the 2004 release the color of his saber was pink in some shots. Well, instead of making all shots of his saber back to the old red for the blu-ray, what if all the shots of Vader's lightsaber seem more pink so that they "match" and there is consistency? Are you telling me that is impossible and unlikely?

It can swing either way, and nothing about that supposed e-mail tells you what the result will be. Interpret as you wish.

Even if done right, I highly doubt it. The actual source material cannot exceed that from other movies (including those shot on analog film) that look amazing on Blu-ray.

However, if done right, these could still look outstanding...especially ep 4-6.

Ha, ya know what? You are probably right. I am looking forward to his version of Empire more than I am the real thing from Lucas... Its a funny world we live in.

I sent an e-mail a few minutes ago to Lucasfilm (figured I would join the letter writing campaign). Asked directly about the crossed saber shot in Jedi (that is the biggest sin, imo) and the reversed sound channels in A New Hope. Will DEF report back if I hear anything. Oh, and I will take screen shots of me reading it dressed as Greedo for proof.

Hmmm... maybe I should send an email to Lucasfilm asking for a free copy of the Blu-Ray Saga set. They probably won't go for it, but it's worth a try!

And if they do go for it and send me one, even if the transfers are less than stellar, at least I wouldn't have paid anything for the set!

So is there any chance these will be readily available on release day or does anyone think they will sell out quickly and be hard to find?

Trust me everyone if the e-mail response I got back from LFL was not real I would not have posted it. It is real as it gets.

Your argument is illogical. If the lightsaber is not pink in any other movie and only pink in a select few shots, why would they put extra work in making it pink throughout: when its in fact not supposed to be?

Nothing sells out nowadays... especially not movies

At least not to the point of being hard to find. Worst case scenario, you may have to drive to another store.

I've never seen any video game, movie, console, gadget/gizmo, smartphone, etc. released in the last 5 years or so be sold out shortly after release

The more customers who are unable to obtain a copy on release date when they want it, the more customers who may put the purchase off and perhaps never buy the item. So the more copies readily available on release day the better.

I'll bet there are hundreds of copies in warehouses right now in the US and Canada alone, ready to be shipped to stores the week before the set is released.

It was the same way when the DVDs were released in 2004. Stores had hundreds of both the widescreen box set (silver) and full screen box set (gold).

Thank you, Ken. I was beginning to let the negativity around here and my naturally pessimistic nature get to me - but you've actually rekindled a spark of hope for this set.

Surely if ILM is involved with further corrections, they wouldn't let the old errors stand - at least, that's my hope.

So here's hopin'....

My argument is quite logical. You can't rule out any possible change. You say the lightsaber shouldn't appear pink, yet promo shots from the website and that CC video suggest pink coloring in ESB. You can't simply assume that the colors will be exactly what you want them to be because of one sketchy email.

The color palette of all three movies was changed in 2004 and there isn't much reason to believe it'll be any different this time around, given adywan's and others' investigations. The pink sabers in all three movies have to do with the overall darker color palette. Every single piece of evidence thus far suggests the color timing will be quite similar to 2004, since they are from the same master. It's not just the sabers that are pink - pink displays in Vader's cockpit are another example (somewhere earlier in this thread). Red became more pinkish in 2004's versions. That's the same reason why the bright blue/white saber in ANH became green.

I do not know why Lucas has made all the changes over the years. Greedo shoots first, Luke screams falling down shaft, color timings, etc. What I do know is that anything is possible. The discs could look better or they could look worse in terms of coloring. Believe what you want, and if I'm wrong in September I'll admit it. Until then, I'll remain skeptical and expect the same problems from 2004. The only color I see them changing is Luke's green saber in ANH. The rest of the color palette will likely be the same.
