ok so my brother in law his brother works at Lucas Arts and I thought well the two are kind of connected so I asked if he knew anything about the Blu Ray release of Star Wars and his response was that he wouldn't give any details but that they did do some digital work on the special effects. I don't talk to my brother in law often but we were talking about Blu Rays yesterday because of that new ultraviolet thing and Star Wars came up so I asked him if his brother had any news and that was all he got was they did do some digital work on the films. Now he only started working there a year ago and he works for Lucas Arts not Lucas Film BUT he did mention that some of the "new stuff" in his words will show up in a new video game they are working on. He is a rigger so I don't know exactly how involved he is and like I said he only been there a year so not sure how much helpful that all is.

Oh ok don't know why but I thought I saw a hub in the center of the disc when I looked at the picture last night.

Maybe they could just clean up the cartoon and include that if nothing else?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if these things were crammed in by hand in some Mexican or Chinese sweatshop.

That said, whether a human or a robot packages these things its doubtful that they'll be damaged when they arrive. Ignorance is bliss and I suspect that the people who immediately scour a new Blu-ray or DVD for scratches and fingerprints cause themselves a lot more headaches than are necessary.

Amazon.com, for example, urges customers to actually play the thing before they send it back and I totally agree with that.

I'm not the least bit worried about the packaging on the US set. I anticipate a proper "Star Wars" marathon on the weekend of the 16th and short of errors/glitches during playback the only thing that will be looking at the data side of the disc will be the player itself.

Apologies if this has already been asked - searching through this many posts for the word "cut" given how many people are moaning about various cuts of the films didn't prove very fruitful to me - but is there any information regarding how Attack Of The Clones will fair over in the UK this time around?

The DVD had a 1 second cut applied by the BBFC as Jango Fett headbutted Obi-Wan (and they really don't / didn't like headbutts).

I know one of the extras on The Phantom Menace was slightly altered in the UK too as instead of bleeping Rick McCallum as he blows his top in Tunisia they simply cut his rant out completely, so I'd be interested to know how that extra will be managed if it's included again...

I said this earlier but for some reason everyone chose to ignore it: I have the deadwood series blu ray which has the same packaging. Not one single disc was scratched, nor have I scratched any discs taking them out of the sleeves.

I posted this earlier, but some people ignored it also: I have the Alien Anthology, same packaging, 3 discs were scratched upon removing them for the very first time...

What can I say... good luck for you, bad luck for me

The grammar and writing errors on the back jacket preclude me from using it.

One of my bonus discs was scratched, but the constant taking it out and putting back in, as I couldn't watch ALL of that material at once, caused the sleeve itself to degrade, only with removing, and putting it back in 3 or 4 times.

A careful hand can remove the discs without severely damaging them, but who wants to do that when you can just go "POP, it's out," like on a standard case?

My biggest issues with the Alien and BTTF packages from last year was mainly that I didn't want to sit there and have to wiggle discs out. As dramatic as it sounds, it kind of took the fun out of watching movies.

This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode, where Elaine reads the label of her beverage: "Shake before drinking"
Elaine: I'm tired of shaking everything. There's too many things you have to shake these days.
Jerry: (taking the bottle and shaking casually and gently) "Oh yeah. This is killin' me..."

Hopefully the UK set will be uncut, RotS is a 12 certificate so it won't harm anybody to bump AotC to the 12 it was originally given. As for the 'In the Beginning' it was rated 15 due to several F-Bombs I don't think it's going to be included this time round so we don't have to worry about it been cut or not.

I'm still thinking about The Phantom Menace 6hour cut that Jake Lloyd mentioned, I want to see that!

I like those a lot. Just wish the basic background color on all of them was black. I just find it sexy...lol.

But if it only came with 4 tapes, how did they fit the three movies, four documentaries and all of the definitive collection LD extras?

I've done some looking since yesterday. Every piece of info I've found on that set confirms what I remembered in terms of the special features. They may have put all the extras on a six hour VHS(recorded in EP mode). The four docs total roughly 3.5 hours and 2.5 hours sounds about right for the DC extras.

Same here. Excellent design I like it a lot, but it would be better if the basic color is uniform for all six episodes.

Just my opinion, I'm gonna use the official packaging anyway.
