I for one am going in with expectations that this set will be the same exact versions of the films that lowry digital restored for the 04 release-

would be (hopefully) pleasantly surprised if things are fixed but lucas already gave the OK for the transfers in HD for the HD broadcast, so i would guess that he is/was pleased with the product he had on hand.

that being said- the film that needs the most work is the phantom menace- the HD broadcast of that film is by far the worst of the 6 just from a video quality standpoint- not that it deserves it- but of the 3 prequels it has the potential to look the best because it was shot on film- ep 2 and 3 just look terrible-

The official Star wars page has posted a new video from the special features disc, but also at the end of this feature they have posted a whole clip.

Now you can bet that there will be those that will still continue to say that these aren't clips from the Blu-rays, but come on, why would they post old clips to promote the Blu-Ray? Not only that but the audio mixed used in this clip is not the 2004 mix or any other mix used before. Well they haven't done much here to fix the colour because those bloody X-Wings still have pink/ magenta engines instead of red. The cyan tint doesn't look to be there and the image is brighter but the crushed blacks are still there

why did they only upload them in SD though- that absolutely makes no sense

Um, hate to break it to you but look at the cover of the book Industrial Light & Magic: Into The Digital Realm

Published October 1996 (I got mine as a Christmas gift that year).

Right there: magenta engines on the X-Wings. NOT RED.

Here's the Amazon link for anyone who wants to purchase it:

That's true! I have the book, and it's the same color as in the clip.

It's not red!

actually only the CG shots done for the special edition had the engines coloured incorrectly with as pink/ magenta tint, but had some as red too but they were never as pink as they have been since 2004, and even then they weren't as pink as they are now by the looks of things. Before the SE of ANH the engines were all RED. But look at the rest of the OT, where they added no CG X-wings and the engines are RED

This is good news, right? I listened to it and re-listened to be sure and... Yes! The Force theme is now clearly heard. At least that's one complaint the powers that be listened to. Maybe the flipped rear channels will have been corrected...?

Another interesting thing I noted: R2's "corrected" blue panels from the DVDs now appear pre-DVD black. Hard to judge, this being a standard def video. We need some lightsaber footage.

adywan's correct about the clip on the official website. It's from the Blu-Ray. The audio mix is the smoking gun. The descent of the X-Wing's onto the Death Star has John Williams music back, which was lowered significantly on the '04 DVD's.

Also corrected, it seems.

Also, the film looks A LOT cleaner in that clip. It doesn't look crushed.

Having said that, I do think they did a bit of color timing fixing, just based on the clip and I don't have a problem with it one bit. It looks like Star Wars. Go figure.

Why presume that the X-Wing Fighter engines are supposed to be red? I'm guessing this another case of trusting those old 'Original Trilogy' transfers just because the edits within the film are original, rather than the condition of the colours. Either way, the more pinkish engines look fantastic.

Well maybe it's because they were always red before and that they are still RED in EPs 5 & 6, even on the DVD versions. So it has nothing to do with old original trilogy transfers at all. Plus the technicolor print of the 1977 version which the 1997 SE's colour timing was based upon, which has not faded, has the engines as red also.

Even in the original theatrical cuts, I always thought they were reddish pink so I don't see what the big deal is...

Agreed, and this is all good news! Fixes to the video, plus new audio mix, awesome!

Had a dream last night...I got the complete saga set really early, like today. I was showing like everyone I know, and was contemplating posting pics up here, of course :P

On that new official X-Wing video, I'm really happy that the music is back, but determining PQ is nearly impossible since they only posted the video on YouTube in SD...what gives?

Either way, I'm happy with what I saw and I can't wait until the 16th.

EDIT: Also, what do you mean about R2's black colors?

A correction? I don't know, I was always happy with R2-D2 being blue on the DVD, it's an improvement, rather than an alteration of a shot (Han vs. Greedo).

As long as they're fixing something that was limited by the technology they had back in the day, I'm fine with it. But when they completely alter a shot, it's a bit annoying.

Why would anyone want R2 to be black in space when he's blue for the rest of the movie? If this were a release of the 1977 version, then by all means make him black, but this is supposed to be the special edition...

Guys, I'm sure you realize that taking the bait and engaging in conversations only encourages them.
