"Bill George and digital artist John Goodson showed us how an AT-AT Walker topples onto its side during the Battle of Hoth in Star Wars: Episode IV - The Empire Strikes Back."

Well, FWIW Leia's dress definitely looks pink on my monitor.

Wouldn't put it past Lucas to remove the original Star Wars from canon, to be honest

From all the evidence that has been given by other fans - including screenshots and videos from various IBM Technicolor print 'sources' (from 'that' person who knows another person, who knows another person, who knows another guy) - none of them appear to represent a film stock that has preserved as it was originally seen, which makes the whole argument preposterous. Since a dye Technicolor print itself won't fade, one can only imagine that the lousy camera stock was used in the first place had shifted in colour before the prints we know today appeared.

Afterall the 'pink' is seen on other scenes throughout the film - not just Vader's Lightsaber. Its even seen on his Tie Fighter control panel, where once before the lights were an over-saturated red.

Otherwise, this 'alteration' would make no sense.

Winner, winner chicken dinner. People have so many "memories" and "recollections" about how these films are supposed to look. The reality is the final arbiter of Vader's saber color is George, not me, not adywan. It's his film.

As long as the sabers look consistent from film to film is what matters. And using a low res video from Yahoo is not "evidence" of anything. This trailer was likely produced months ago and could have been cobbled together from various elements (including the much maligned 2004 DVDs) as they became available to the trailer editor.

+1, but unfortunately it seems like a stretch to actually expect people here to be adults about this. I think the posts would be drastically lowered if posts were actually pertaining to the BD release itself.

I, for one, have had some of my concerns put to rest. I'm looking forward to more footage/ info to ease the rest of them.

Seeing as you tried to pass off the 2006 DVD for the technicolor print---need I say more?

I guess you never watched the 1982 VHS?

'The ILM duo also revealed that some work was needed before the original trilogy was fit for Blu-ray, although fans will be happy that was confined to improving the picture quality, rather than fiddling with the films themselves: "The interesting thing about Star Wars and the Star Wars series of films is that they’ve been restored two or three times in the past decade, and so they were in pretty good shape to begin with.," said Bill George.

"I do know that they went in and made some colour corrections on the lightsabers, because they were getting a little bit funky. But I don’t think they went in and did any pantyline removal, or anything like that."

Guess that means Greedo is still getting in first then!
Nice find. Thanks!

Can someone explain to me how resolution can turn red to pink? Colour is colour whatever the resolution. I think people are grasping at straws a little bit here.

I was about to post something similar!

I have the early VHS tapes as well! And all the tapes (until the THX set) have sabers with a coloured core. Ben's is slightly blue, Vader's is pink. It wasn't until 1995 that they fiddled with the sabers and the white core became noticeable.

Wether this is how it was intended to be or if the VHS master was of inferior quality to the theatrical prints, I don't know...

EDIT: Woops Sorry, i thought we were discussing the core

Now i know you are just trolling. The glow there is RED while the core is pink. I said it before but i guess i need to make it clear that WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE OUTER GLOW AND NOT THE CORE.

No, resolution does not change color, but other enhancements do. Check out the pics below.

Uh oh, this doesn't sound promising to me:

Quote:
A final point about the picture transfer that emerged during the ILM Q&A was that the panellists didn’t believe that the original trilogy’s picture quality - or more specifically, the quality of the special effects – had been tinkered with any more than absolutely necessary for the films’ HD release than they have been for previous standard definition releases.

This lead the ILM guys to express concern that viewers might see the ‘cracks’ behind some of the original special effects, showing as an example a shot of an AT-AT falling sideways in the original film where you could clearly see someone poking a stick up under one of the rear feet to make sure the model fell over properly. But at the same time they felt confident that the Star Wars fanbase would embrace any special effects ‘roughness’ in the HD versions of original trilogy rather than feeling annoyed by it.
http://www.hdwars.com/news/2011/08/f...rs-on-blu-ray/

I was hoping they'd updated the OT's special effects for better continuity throughout all six films.

Any further amendments to The Phantom Menace are more than likely on the blu ray already based on this news just in:

Then take it up with doubleofive on originaltrilogy.com.

Because as far as I can tell the glow is red in all these screenshots:

No need to apologize---it looks like the likes of Adywan and Merlin pants are changing the parameters of the discussion when their own beliefs have shown to be flawed.

And I agree with you.

But the 1982 VHS tape is a good reference in the sense that it was sourced from a print that was only 4 years old at the point it was telecined.
Plus the fact that it was not digitally manipulated in any way unlike the subsequent versions(1991 onwards)
