I know your post intended to essentially point out supposed hypocrisies with OT purists, but it also highlights precisely what is wrong with the release. INCONSISTENCY! Why fix some mistakes, update some effects, and ignore others that are SO easy to fix. If Vader is supposed to have a pink saber, make it consistent across the board. If it's supposed to be red, like the Sith all have in the prequels, make it red.

I am not opposed to updating effects. But for the love God, why does Lucasfilm do such a half ass job?

If you don't mind subpar restoration work for your favorite films, who am I to judge. I, however, want the best for these films.

Try telling that to the folks who, for over 200,000 frames, remove dirt, scratches, blemishes, shrinkage and more. Many films don't even get the same level of care as these.

Not quite. The people over at OT.com and other film fans were asking for the UOT on Blu-ray at some point and like them, I want that too. That's a totally different argument than the lightsaber colors on this release. Of course everyone wants the colors correct, whether it be on the UOT or the SE's. Nice straw man though. Any normal person would hope that the release is correct. I've conceded no point. I don't want his lightsaber to be anything based on the 2004 DVD release. Like anyone else, I want it to be the correct color and we all know that color is red.

Some don't seem to have a clue about Vader's lightsaber color when almost everyone else knows it to be red. I used the old pre-fix screenshot and the newer 2004 screenshot to prove the point about his lightsaber color. Why would ILM fix the lightsaber and make it red if it was supposed to be pink? Not a difficult question.

I then pointed out the colors on the door edges and to the right of Vader to illustrate the drastic shift. The color shift in ESB and ROTJ is obviously what messed up those lightsabers and the pink lightsabers slipped past their "quality control". Greg Achen's post below mine with the bad saber cross from ROTJ, which is now fixed for the new release, only further proves things slipped past their "quality control" last time. The fact that Vader's fixed saber in ANH is red only further proves the point that ILM fixed it after the color timing changes. Again, why would they make it red if it was supposed to be pink?

I can't believe I wasted my time typing about something that has been common knowledge from the start of the series.

That this was ever deemed acceptable speaks volumes...

So is there an unaltered original trilogy set coming out or is that just wishful thinking?

Apparently there was a distracting white section on the Emperors hood and they basically covered it with a black animation but it looks very strange. It appears in a few shots.

The slugs used to be just next to Palpatine's right eye in ROTJ. Sorta under the hood.

I think the story is that it was originally a loose piece of makeup or something that they simply blacked over....Thanks to darker theatrical screens and crappy vhs tapes back in the old-timey days people just never noticed it.

But with dvd and blu-ray these things become way more noticeable.

I've never noticed them ever, even after ppl complained infinitem. But since the Emperor is super evil and ancient, I think a few slugs on his head might be fitting.

Unreal you had to type all of that. The lightsaber is FN RED.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Vader's_lightsaber

Also, I think the problem with it is Lucas' people aren't looking close enough at the footage. They do a quick glance and probably thing "Well, it is red enough...."

I am just happy they fixed the shot with the Emperor. Can't win em all I guess.

I honestly have no idea how you don't notice them.

They are somewhat visible on the HD tv broadcast but they are very noticeable on the 04 dvd's....here's a screen-cap from my ROTJ dvd...

I admit my eyesight isn't what it used to be but I sure don't see it in the screen shots posted and never noticed it in any the various versions of the movies.

Agreed. Red.

I think you're right about the way Lucas' people check things. I think it's probably an attitude of "it's good enough and 99% of people will never know the difference".

I'm at least glad they fixed the saber cross, too. Hopefully, they fixed Luke's lightsaber on the Falcon in ANH as well.

Once you see them they can't be unseen.

What I'm really hoping for with the br release, is dramatic improvement
in the esb.

Out of the hd transfers, esb looks the worst. Especially the walkers scene.
Just didn't look that good compared to my memories from seeing it in the theater where it looked astonishing.

I am certain we are right with how they check things. Almost positive.

I am thinking they must have got the Lightsaber on the Falcon. Was a pretty big complaint next to the crossed sabers. Nice to see they kinda, sorta addressed the black crush too. Will be interesting to see how it all comes together. I don't think any of us will be as disappointed as we were in 2004. At least there shouldn't be any real noticible "WTF?!?" moments this time around.

I've re-watched the trailer countless times today and noticed that many scenes are a little on the pink hue side. Look at the scene in the trailer where Obi-Wan and Anakin clash their lightsabers in Eps III, I don't recall ever seeing Mustafar that shade of red before (hints of purple). I think the whole trailer itself was altered during the uploading process.

Their is now a new 1080p version of the trailer on the star wars blu-ray site and on the star wars youtube channel. And it looks like in the trailer from the blu-ray site the red sabers are not pink or purple.
