Can't wait to watch this set on my Samsung UN46B8500. Uber black levels and unprecedented contrast ratio will bring out the best of the Star Wars Universe right in my living room.

Since day one of splurging on bluray i have not watched a single Star Wars film once from start to finish - that's now 3 years...... I promised myself i would wait for my favorite movies of all time to come out in HD. Finally that time is fast approaching....I can't wait....!!!!

I agree, THX mode looks dull to me. I use either standard or a custom mode I made which is just slightly off in some settings from standard. I have a Panny plasma 50inch V10 and I sit no more then 6ft away.

I'm getting the Complete Saga, and watching them 1~6 and then the bonus stuff. I really like all of the movies, but I do think the story is much better in the OT, but the action, sound, and pretty shiny lights in the PT make for a pretty fun experience too!
I can't wait either! In fact, I just revamped almost my entire sound system - new speakers and new blu-ray player. I finally upgraded my 10-15+ year old mixed Polk system to a new Klipsch Reference II system. Over the past week or two, I decided to make the move from 5.2 to 7.2. I'm gonna order the extra pair of surrounds this week, so I will be back up and running just in time for SW.

Very nice! You're gonna have a lot of drivers in that room.

It does look a bit dull (darker, slightly lower contrast in most cases), but the monitor is displaying exactly the same image that someone like George Lucas or Steven Speilberg are seeing when they are working on (or re-editing) their films

Although I said it looks slightly dull, I much prefer it over and of the pre-set options and cannot get close to the THX picture even by adjusting the sliders to the same values myself. Also, there is absolutely no overscan in THX mode.

One could argue that THX mode can be viewed the same as how Widescreen is considered the director's intended way to see the film.

That's too bad! I agree that it can get a little rough here, and terribly ridiculous, but that won't keep me from chiming in from time to time, and skim through the latest arguments etc..

Sad to see you again.

May the force be with you. Always, and enjoy your Blu-ray set!

Definitely going to watch the movies first.

I haven't quite made up my mind about the order yet.
Part of me really wants to see TPM again in its breathtaking glory after all these years, but another part of me wants to see them in order of original release, or even the IV-V, I-III, VI combination.

My gf has never seen them so that's an additional point to consider.

Since I switched to Blu-ray, DVDs have become unbearable.

I even tried to watch SW sometimes, but it didn't bring me any joy, just sore eyes, due to the softness, compression-related artifacts and whatnot.

Blu-ray is the way to watch them and the upgrade is going to be spectacular in both picture and sound.

This. I have a 50inch Kuro, and even my gf can see the enormous differences between BD and DVD.

Lucky you! I wanted to get a new amp to bring down the house, but my financial situation won't allow it, but I see it this way: I get to experience SW on BD, in full HD and lossless audio, and then, after some time, I get the next level of enjoyment with a high end surround system....

Either way, have fun with your new system! No better time to upgrade than for this release!

I have a TC-P42S1. I just checked, and my eyes are actually 4' 7" away from the screen. My tv actually has a 41.6" screen. I used the viewing distance calculator to find the recommended THX viewing distance (36 degree viewing angle), which is 4.6 feet, for my size tv.

I guess it's because my screen is smaller, but I can only see the pixels on a solid white image while leaning forward about three or four inches, and yes I have perfect 20/20 vision.

I like to be as close to the screen as I can get without seeing the pixels, because it gives me more of a theater experience, and makes my tv seem larger than it really is.

Star Wars!

Deepdiscount apparently had it for 65 for a while there, but then it shot back up. I heard somebody says something about pre-ordering it from Borders for 70 or something, but I can't even find it listed on their website. I expect the price to drop a tad before release day, but maybe not by 20 bucks. You might have to wait a few months if you're not willing to pay 90 bucks. But even at 90 bucks, that's 15 bucks a film. Pretty good price, if you ask me.

Or if you are sitting really close to your display. Or if they have conditioned themselves to hate DVDs like a lot of people on here have seem to have done.

But it's going to be worth it for those extras if you are a die-hard fan.

Don't believe this for a second!

I have a 32" 720p LG tv, I sit around 10 feet away and the difference is plain as night and day.

Amen! Although we do most of our Blu-ray viewing on our 50" Kuro (KRP-500M) at 10 feet, we can still tell the difference on our 42" Panny plasma at 13 feet in the bedroom. And yes...on many titles the difference is "night and day".

Lots of misinformation in this thread...it's very disheartening...

Oh...and I'm watching them in order of release...it just seems right that way...in my opinion.

Much though I am loath to be seen siding with those who love to complain about SW reissue matters (I will love the BDs, I am quite sure, and look forward to whatever tinkering the director sees fit to share with me), it is worth remembering that this is not a Star Wars site, but exists for those interested in the Blu-ray disc format and is frequented by film buffs of all sorts. If you were only here for one thing (to locate SW fans), you were destined to be disappointed. Meanwhile for those who are about to enjoy Star Wars on blu-ray, I salute you!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself...lol. So long... farewell...

Guys, in about a month I will be watching the Battle of Endor on a 140 inch screen. I cannot wait to see the rebel fleet come out of hyperspace. Seriously, I am going right to Jedi the minute I get this set in my lil paws! Anyone else doing the same thing?

I think I'm going to split the Saga in two and watch each half on a different day when I get my set. I've only done the 1-6 super marathon once and it was not easy, took me something like 14 hours with quick breaks.

After having read through much of this forum I am completely flabbergasted as to why so many of you don't even seem to want to see the originals and are happy with the current incarnation of this saga. I'll go so far as to say the man legally owns the movies and can and will do whatever he wants with them. But should he?

How will you feel when 10 years from now the special editions have been modified to a point where when you pop in the movie to watch it you don't enjoy it anymore. Instead you say "hmm, I don't really enjoy what they've done here. I wish I could have them the way I remember." I'm not talking about color issues here as that can all be fixed for the most part. I'm talking about changes in character arc and additional creatures and characters in scenes that detract from the film as it was originally.

If you would say just buy the 2006 DVD's or the laserdisc versions and try to be happy with what you have. I would say this. These versions don't even have 300 lines of horizontal resolution. They look terrible compared to modern transfers, especially on modern televisions. Yes I can still watch them but that's not the point. Laserdiscs are already rotting from bad manufacturing processes. DVD's have a shelf life which is measured in decades. The original film itself is apparently in such bad shape that the possibility of a modern transfer is questionable unless other sources are found and allowed to be used.

The original star wars is on the verge of being lost forever, with less and less possibility of an archival quality transfer being released to the masses. I hope that fans will come to understand that the ramifications of this will echo into the future of these movies.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is: "have sympathy for a guy that can no longer enjoy his most favorite movies in the whole world." With that being said, I would totally continue to buy every box set that comes down the pipe as long as it contained every version: The original, '97Se, '04SE, '11SE(?) and whatever comes later. I would even watch them and enjoy them as a novelty item, but I would never be able to escape into them like the originals.

With regards to this Blu-ray, the story has not changed at all. Cosmetic differences have not changed the heart of the films one bit. If you can't enjoy it anymore, perhaps you have just outgrown it and it only works on a nostalgic level for you? In that case, you should probably just let it go. The story is the same.

althor1138, with all due respect, we've discussed that to death in the last 800 pages or so, don't need to bring it up again. Everybody gets it already.

Thanks. And welcome to the Blu-ray.com forums.
