Can't wait to watch this set on my Samsung UN46B8500. Uber black levels and unprecedented contrast ratio will bring out the best of the Star Wars Universe right in my living room.
Since day one of splurging on bluray i have not watched a single Star Wars film once from start to finish - that's now 3 years...... I promised myself i would wait for my favorite movies of all time to come out in HD. Finally that time is fast approaching....I can't wait....!!!! I agree, THX mode looks dull to me. I use either standard or a custom mode I made which is just slightly off in some settings from standard. I have a Panny plasma 50inch V10 and I sit no more then 6ft away.

Although I said it looks slightly dull, I much prefer it over and of the pre-set options and cannot get close to the THX picture even by adjusting the sliders to the same values myself. Also, there is absolutely no overscan in THX mode. One could argue that THX mode can be viewed the same as how Widescreen is considered the director's intended way to see the film. |

Sad to see you again. May the force be with you. Always, and enjoy your Blu-ray set! ![]() Quote:
I haven't quite made up my mind about the order yet. Part of me really wants to see TPM again in its breathtaking glory after all these years, but another part of me wants to see them in order of original release, or even the IV-V, I-III, VI combination. My gf has never seen them so that's an additional point to consider. Quote:
I even tried to watch SW sometimes, but it didn't bring me any joy, just sore eyes, due to the softness, compression-related artifacts and whatnot. Blu-ray is the way to watch them and the upgrade is going to be spectacular in both picture and sound. Quote:

Either way, have fun with your new system! No better time to upgrade than for this release! ![]() |

I guess it's because my screen is smaller, but I can only see the pixels on a solid white image while leaning forward about three or four inches, and yes I have perfect 20/20 vision. I like to be as close to the screen as I can get without seeing the pixels, because it gives me more of a theater experience, and makes my tv seem larger than it really is. ![]() Star Wars! |

Lots of misinformation in this thread...it's very disheartening... Oh...and I'm watching them in order of release...it just seems right that way...in my opinion. |

Sorry, I couldn't help myself...lol. So long... farewell... Guys, in about a month I will be watching the Battle of Endor on a 140 inch screen. I cannot wait to see the rebel fleet come out of hyperspace. Seriously, I am going right to Jedi the minute I get this set in my lil paws! Anyone else doing the same thing? |

After having read through much of this forum I am completely flabbergasted as to why so many of you don't even seem to want to see the originals and are happy with the current incarnation of this saga. I'll go so far as to say the man legally owns the movies and can and will do whatever he wants with them. But should he?
How will you feel when 10 years from now the special editions have been modified to a point where when you pop in the movie to watch it you don't enjoy it anymore. Instead you say "hmm, I don't really enjoy what they've done here. I wish I could have them the way I remember." I'm not talking about color issues here as that can all be fixed for the most part. I'm talking about changes in character arc and additional creatures and characters in scenes that detract from the film as it was originally. If you would say just buy the 2006 DVD's or the laserdisc versions and try to be happy with what you have. I would say this. These versions don't even have 300 lines of horizontal resolution. They look terrible compared to modern transfers, especially on modern televisions. Yes I can still watch them but that's not the point. Laserdiscs are already rotting from bad manufacturing processes. DVD's have a shelf life which is measured in decades. The original film itself is apparently in such bad shape that the possibility of a modern transfer is questionable unless other sources are found and allowed to be used. The original star wars is on the verge of being lost forever, with less and less possibility of an archival quality transfer being released to the masses. I hope that fans will come to understand that the ramifications of this will echo into the future of these movies. I guess what I'm trying to say here is: "have sympathy for a guy that can no longer enjoy his most favorite movies in the whole world." With that being said, I would totally continue to buy every box set that comes down the pipe as long as it contained every version: The original, '97Se, '04SE, '11SE(?) and whatever comes later. I would even watch them and enjoy them as a novelty item, but I would never be able to escape into them like the originals. |

With regards to this Blu-ray, the story has not changed at all. Cosmetic differences have not changed the heart of the films one bit. If you can't enjoy it anymore, perhaps you have just outgrown it and it only works on a nostalgic level for you? In that case, you should probably just let it go. The story is the same.
