Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on the AQ. Probably because it was late and I live in an apartment so couldn't crank the volume. It sounded great though, clear and clean.

Why? I believe there are enough reviews already that pretty much expose that this transfer could have been better.
You just need to decide if the flaws exposed are enough for you to not make a purchase or just rent it.

You mean the site that hailed the PQ of The Longest Day, and Patton?

I'll take The Digital Bits, thanks.

Or you can be optimistic and justify it only costing you $13 if you buy Braveheart and Gladiator at BB.

Yep, I'm not one who says every $20 I spend on a movie needs to be the best it'll ever look or else I won't buy it , It just needs to be an upgrade, and as long, as they don't do a remastered version a few months after I bought the first then I could careless.

lol not caring isn't being a sucker , being frugal doesn't score you any points either.

I guess you didn't own a DVD player or VHS player, since you can find tons of things wrong with those transfers.

Hypocritical? I think so.(well unless you really didn't own either of those, in which case I'd ask why are you here?)

How does amazon handle price matching? I preordered gladiator, and yes I am still buying it, but amazon still has it priced at 26.99 where as best buy has it for 22.99. Do I need to contact them about a price match, or do they even do it?

BrandonT,

Thanks for posting your opinion about the PQ of Gladiator. I have a 40" inch LCD and don't believe my opinion after viewing will be different than yours. I do have an older 50" 4:3 RPTV and I can run component at 1080i but other than size of the picture, it definitely will not give me the best PQ I can get. I may try it for kicks though.

The AQ and apartment living? Well I certainly can relate to that.

I'd just drop their customer service an email with a link to the bestbuy page. Worst case you'll order it, pay for it, and mid week they'll refund you the difference.

Loss of details, houston, we have a damn problem.

Some artifacts? houston, we have another problem.

from what it sounded it has enough contrast / pop. It's okay to have a little stronger contrast than being less contrasty.

The reviewer didn't complain about the color / flash tones, sounded okay.

Oh wait.. extended scenes look good but the rest of it are not? they used the original master from 2000? well that's a BIG problem houston. I can't tolerate inconsistency.... the PQ needs to be good from the beginning to the end of the movie.

Well Thanks for letting us know that the Glaidator sucks. I'm definitely not going to buy it. I'll just pick up a copy of Braveheart since this one has good PQ.

So I take it it may take another 10 years to come up with a new digital remaster of this film Gladiator and make all the final tweaks to make the PQ look good? FORGET IT..... I will never buy this movie for the rest of my life. I'm the one was very anticipating to get this movie like 3 or so years ago and now I hear PQ issues already. Great going, dreamworks or paramount or whatever. You fail......

Your post just made my day

well, no luck with price matching. Trying to figure out now if it's worth saving 4 bucks.

I will pass on it regardless of how cheap I can get it.
Crap is still crap no matter how low the price.

Those of you that will be satisfied , good for you ,

There's no need to laugh at people who will be satisfied by it. Not everyone needs the picture to look perfect. I'm not saying what Paramount/Universal did with this release was right, but still...
