Yep the hating/whining/bashing has already started on AVS. Just by going off screencaps, they are saying that Gladiator looks like garbage, sh!t, whatever, you name it

I know why I hardly ever post over there anymore...

I gave up on AVS long ago. They hate everything, everything sucks, blah blah blah.

I swear they see DNR in real life. "That guy in the car next to me has a waxy face - DNR is the culprit!!!"

I know. Some people desperately need to realize that no matter what, not everything can be perfect!

according to the screenshots on dvdbeaver.com the HDtv version doesn't look near as good as the full 1080P BD release

Anyways, I just looked at the reviews for both movies. Both look great. It's ridiculous that people are complaining about Gladiator. People will always find something to complain about. I know I'll be picking up both of these at some point and will be loving them.

Yeah, I'm about to get a new one ripped on the AVS forums because, although I already have both discs, the screengrabs from dvdbeaver have sealed the fate of Gladiator as GARBAGE!

Is that your opinion about the disc after watching it, or are you saying that the screengrabs make it look like crap?

No, I am saying that the consensus on AVS is that the film looks like garbage based on those screengrabs. I am satisfied with how it looks.

Based on the screen caps I'm satisfied with the look of Gladiator even though I feel it could look a little sharper it's enough for me to upgrade.

The differences in the screen caps of 'Gladiator' are pretty amazing. Could be THE new reference Blu!

Gladiator looks wonderful

but can someone explain to me why the HDTV screen caps show more of the image up and down then the Blu-ray ones or even the DVD ones for that matter.

It was shot Super 35, that's why. THE HDTV version is probably opening more of the mattes up to fill the 16:9 frame, whereas the blu-ray is in the proper 2.40:1 ratio.
