The cover art doesn't say Warner, it's Paramount copyright 2017. (I'm assuming it went back after the end of the license, I hadn't even realized it until I saw the disc.)

I'm assuming it's fine, but I don't rule out the slight possibility that Paramount would be burning off old stock. Just hoping there's something specific and easy in the transfer to quickly check for to distinguish them. Any suggestions?

I keep saying this but people will keep ignoring it:

The issue came up in 2009. 2009.

Universal produced a new corrected master and created new discs for themselves and provided this to Paramount. In 2009.

Paramount then had Deluxe do a running change. In 2009. That means Deluxe stopped using the original masters and switched to the newly created one during disc manufacturer.

Deluxe is no longer pressing the original 2009 disc because they do not have access to that master,

When Warner took over distribution in 2013 they simply repackaged Paramount's discs with a Warner barcode. Either a Warner barcode over Paramount's old art or newly printed art with a Warner barcode. When Warner needed new stock of Gladiator discs, they got the new discs from Paramount who, in turn, got them from Deluxe. See above.

Yes, some of the bad discs were still available after the running change but they stopped appearing around 2010.

The only way to get a bad disc in 2016, six years after the running change is if you bought it without the Warner barcode. Look at the barcode, it will have the Warner Shield and the words distributed by Warner Home Video in the UPC box above the scanning bars. It will either be a sticker or printed on the art. And Paramount simply changed the barcodes back to their own in 2017 and again, they are still getting the discs directly from Deluxe. Who did the running change in 2009.

The only way to get a bad copy is if your store did not get any restock since 2010. Which would be hard to believe after eight years.

He already said it doesn't say Warner on it, so he might indeed have somehow gotten a really old copy. Easiest way to find out is looking at the title screen and comparing it to the caps.

Fair enough, missed that bit. Well then yeah, Paramount must have printed more already and it's surely the new disc.

I recently bought a copy of Gladiator in Target's $10 Section.

It had a 2017 DW Studio marking at the bottom right hand-corner. Checking the disc today, the opening titles are all black and not black to gold as posted a few pages back.

Excited to FINALLY own this!

Hello. I want to ask if this 2017 re-release has the second disc with extras? According to Amazon it's just 1 disc (the movie) although the cover art says Saphire Series and I think that is the 2 disc version. Thank you in advance.

Not as amazeballs as the forthcoming 4K release I suspect... Digibook sold!

Trying to decide if I should buy this in 4K or just keep what I have (the 2013 WB steelbook). Is that for certain the remastered disc?

The 4K, based on early reviews, sounds like it’s not a significant upgrade.

Pretty sure every edition since 2010 has the remastered discs. After all the trouble, they wouldn't be dumb enough to put the old discs out there again.
