Ah, so you're taking it as gospel that the screen shots accurately show how it will look in motion in front of you and that no manipulation has occurred. Thanks for the clarification.

...yeah, I'll continue to wait.

You know what? You're right, I misread it. He makes no direct mention of Gladiator.

You do realize that film shows one single image 24X a second. Why would the screens not be representative. And it's not possible for 3 independent sources to all tweak images to obtain some nefarious goal.

My mistake. It didnt. But then I have to ask how you "knew" there are image problems?

For the 50th time, the screencaps haven't been conjured out of thin air, they are from the disc, and as such, they are directly comparable to screen caps of other movies shot on the super 35mm medium

Because I know for a fact that my own eyes don't see the same thing that some of these screenshots supposedly show. I know that for a fact movies that people have said on that other forum are a DNR/EE mess (Dark Knight) I think look fantastic. Motion vs. 1/24 is not the same, and thus I think it's fair that I choose to reserve my judgement.

I'm not claiming some big conspiracy, but screenshots can often come out wrong depending on how they're done, or can be manipulated if there is a decision to do so. Why are you trying to convince me to change my opinion otherwise? It seems simple prudence and patience should be the watchwords here.

LOL at you. Paranoia. Weve seen it numerous times before, so it aint without merit. The fact that you blindly form an opinion about a disc you havent seen is scary. Based on screencaps of 1/24th of a second.

But you are right. Your solid research means you are right. Heck, you've seen a screencap.

And for the 50th time, I disagree with you for the reasons stated and so much more.

But we don't what has been done to them after they were taken. Also not everyone has the same monitor, so screen grabs are going to look different to everyone anyway.

That's fair. And in my experience I find that direct caps that are taken from the disc that are posted here and other place are often very close to what I see on my screen at home.

I honestly don't believe that anyone is manipulating them in any significant way, other than to make them load more easily. BTW - Nice avatar

Forget the screen grabs, check out the videos. There is NO excuse for the disappearing fireballs, spears, etc. No matter how you slice it they f'd the transfer, period. I'm not buying until a rerelease.

Feel free to show me the posts where I disparage the disc based on a screencap. Oh, and thanks for proving my point.

TDK has one thing this one doesn't, and that's fine detail, and that aint coming back no matter how fast you play it back (I do think TDK is a lousy transfer but that horse has been beaten to a finer powder than this one). You might sit back far away enough from a small enough screen where that difference won't be striking but this is miles apart from something like Transformers. And it really shouldn't be.

First of all, no one should be calling any studio departments till this streets. Secondly, history has shown that early screenshots can be indicators of nasty DNR at work - as an owner of the Trek set, I can attest to this fully. Love of blu-ray goes overboard when someone who is posting screenshots get accused of being some closet HD-DVD sympathizer.

It's getting to the point where any time a major BD release is mishandled, people rush to defend it even when all the evidence suggests there is a problem. Granted their are filmmaker chosen exceptions to this (Dracula, French Connection, etc), but to always be so quick to label those concerned as part of some bizarre HD-DVD sympathizing conspiracy is laughable. Generally that kind of talk is from people so beholden to blu-ray they have never uttered a negative word against any BD release. If all you want is "an upgrade over the DVD", then go on eBay for some used HD-DVDs - I'd like releases that takes advantage of all that storage space and bandwidth for the most film-like experience possible.

No, not really, because the whole purpose of my phone call was to get things moving. I will be thrilled if the release proves that the screen captures circulating the net are a prank. If that's not the case, the trumpet has already been sounded, and the studio will be inundated with complaints.

Been looking forward to Gladiator for a while now, and while I am certainly saddened by some of the early reviews, I will netflix this to judge for myself. If it looks good, I will quickly purchase it. Like others have said, at least it appears the audio will be excellent, and the picture will certainly look better than the DVD.

Also, I am amazed at all the harsh comments and posts in this thread. Some posters seem to take things a little too seriously.

I'm not missing your point. If I was a "busy little bee" with the studio, I would investigate, even if the investigation was based on preliminary complaints, unless I cared more about cost cutting than customer satisfaction. Paramount is the entity that is releasing the product, so I'm sure they have seen the product. Although, perhaps action will be taken (such as reviewing the product again) if hell is raised prior to the release of the product. Does this not make sense to the people that are lambasting me for my undertaking?
