Me personally, no. But for the price, I would have been willing to hold off until its under $20. Benjamin Button is a Criterion Collection and I purchased it for $14.99. I held off on Gangs of NY until I was able to purchase for $9.99. I'm not sure if Gladiator SS is worth the current price on Amazon. The BB deal might be decent. I would say its not worth the premium price. If you must own, like I wanted to, then enjoy. I know that I have.

My Cliffs notes.

Matt at the "other forum" posts thread that the BD is a horrible transfer with outlandish theories including Paramount is sitting on a newer transfer cause they are still butt hurt about HD DVD

Screen-cap mania

Missing arrows and fire balls appear and disappear in a german GIF

Cross forum riot ensues due to name calling from them.

I get made fun of for suggesting a phone call to Paramount.

Someone else actually calls.

People start boycotting a release before it is released.

More fighting

Juvenile references

Beta man "yells" at everyone

Eco case rears it's head.

Someone actually sees the BD and confirms mystery arrows.

DAY 2

Riot 2 breaks out with OARMaster and some Petri dude swinging (and being ) the biggest diicks.

Most proclaim that this thread Officially SUCKS!

Someone mentions Lawsuit.

Beta mom breaks it up...come on kids!

AVS Plagiarism?, no IMDB

HEAVY blows exchange!! It cant last much longer!

Mods threaten banning thank God.

Ladies and Gentlemen....Jeff Kleist, The crowd goes crazy!!

Here you are

Wow. Posts have dropped dramatically in this thread in the last several hours.
Must be bedtime or dinner time for the kiddies.

Now get your rest and get up early to poke the blu-ray Screenshot scientists.
Don't forget to use the standard funny acronyms used in text messaging sparingly when you run out of a thoughtful rebuttal.

Order cancelled.

I dont want to support this bad transfer/compression. As soon as the first images appeared on DVDbeaver, and before all of the controversy started, I thought the images look quite bad. Edge enhancement and lots of contrast boosting which seemed to me in direct opposition to DVDBeavers conclusions.

Then all of the AVS noise arose confirming exactly what I saw myself.

Yes its better than DVD, but I dont want to pay premium price for a grade or two better than DVD in some areas yet worse in other areas (contrast boosting). I've decided Im not going to pay to support this release. And buying it warily only to have my fears confirmed would only be supporting it, in terms of sales figures.

So order cancelled.
If, after the smoke clears it turns out that it isn't so bad, then Im sure the overinflated asking price will have plummeted by then.

This is Gladiator on Blu-ray. Aside from the internet forums, I would venture very few people know/care about the problems we're discussing and this release will sell like wildfire. I wouldn't expect it to drop in price due to low demand as fast as some people are suggesting...but I guess we'll see. Not like a lower price is a bad thing, after all

Ok so we've established that the PQ is a very mixed bag, but what about AQ? Is it reference?

I think this will be in the top five in sales for next week. State of Play (as a non catalogue release) is a contender. But as far as a catalogue release is concerned, I have never heard a radio ad for one before. Paramount is really pushing these Sapphire's. And yes only few of us discuss this. Huge seller.

Actually, (new release only Sept. 1)
1. Gladiator
2. Braveheart
3. State of play
4. Earth

Anyone know which catalogue Blu-ray had the biggest opening week release sales?

Gotta say I'm on the "dropping my preorder" boat and switching it to Braveheart. To have filtered something so badly that it actually removes entire objects (and parts of objects) is pretty bad.

I would put Braveheart above Gladiator.. it is a better movie.

Best Buy Deal + if you own the DVD's (like I do).. you can get Braveheart and Gladiator for under $9/each.. at that price I think I can live with whatever the transfer is like.. .The lossless audio alone will be worth the $9 price.

I am keeping my pre order just for that reason, might as well get the $10 off since I own the dvd.

Any chance they will see these PQ issues and delay it a couple weeks to fix it?

I'm not saying you have to buy it, but the reason some (including myself) aren't worried about that problem is the fact that you would only notice it if you actually looked for it while the movie was in motion.

God forbid that anyone should be upset that a studio cared so little that a disc with those problems was allowed to make it out the door.

It's fine if you guys are ok with any problems the disc has, because you probably won't notice them. But none of you are upset that this is even an issue at all? Missing VFX shots...its so basic, what's worse is that this is their high profile Sapphire series.

When I think Sapphire I think Gem. And what determines a gem's value, well a number of things, but flaws definitely don't go well with valuable gems.
