Groucho: If I want to give my speakers my workout I like to skip to a favourite scene in a movie once in a while, but generally I don't put movies on and skip to a few favourite scenes to unwind as I'd do with, say, an album of music. Don't mistake my tone for being snitty, I'm just saying that doesn't work for me. But David Fincher likes to do what you do, he leaves movies playing the background while he does whatever a Fincher does, so you're in good company.

You yanks are lucky.
Us Brits don't have this for another 2 weeks. I would have imported but have gone for the steelbook which seems to be unavailable in the US. The steelbook can sit side by side with the digibook

To each his own, but if I adapted to such a change, it seems odd that those younger than me still " expect " things to be the way they used to be.
And not that I'm that young, but I always find it amusing when "older" people "expect" so many basic realities to change because of "younger" people.

For myself, I like to get out in my community and interact with people, especially hoping to run into some knowledgeable folks who like cinema and Blu-ray. The internet is very convenient, but nothing replaces getting out of the house and seeing the world, anyway.

And neither of our expectations changes the fact that if Universal could put Tremors 5 in stores across the country today, then they should have put Spartacus out there, too.

I'm little too late to per-order it by import (USA) from Amazon.ca. It's sold out!

Changed, I order it (Canada) from Amazon.ca and faster delivery cost of the price is $13.67. I'm no patience!

True but I think it might matter if the film has a ton of chapter stops. But if Universal has used the same ones from their DVD, HD DVD, and the Blu-ray released in 2010, then I guess it doesn't change much.

In terms of commercial product, this basically Universal's equivalent of Ben-Hur, Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz, and it sure as hell should have been sent to stores on release day, as WB did with those films. If the stores had had this today, they would have sold copies, and if they had advertised it, they would have sold even more copies. And I know that rationale applies to every release, and that we all must pick and choose, but in the case of Spartacus, Universal and these stores dropped the ball, period.
Agreed 110%.
Universal could've had a perfect landslide by release this in every brick and mortar it could instead of solely a select handful which would carry it.

Called Best Buy so they could pricematch it to Buy.com/Rakuten.com but the woman on the phone used my $5 Rewards Certificate but she axed the $14.99 price to $10.99, leaving the $0.54 tax and $2.99 shipping, to a mere total of $9.52. Should have it with the Slipcover, I hope.
Was extremely disappointed the Best Buy in Soquel, CA, didn't have any in store. Was more than happy she was able to this for me.

Picked it up at Barnes&Noble today. I skimmed though some of the chapters and after seeing the wonderfully restored image I felt like taking my 50th Anniversary Edition and hitting it with a sledge hammer. There is that much difference. It's also always nice to rediscover how truly beautiful Jean Simmons was in this film (as well as many others). If this film is among your favorites (and how could it not be), get this new release ASAP.

It's really frustrating that none of the stores in my area have this, despite what their sites may or may not claim. Not Best Buy, Walmart, Target and even B&N. Wonder why Universal didn't distribute this very well.

What's happening to 20000 leagues under the sea (1954). No release date for Blu-ray?

I'm sure Kirk Douglas actors in the movie.

Fingers crossed for you.

Just to go back to the 2001 'visible backing' conundrum, I thought I'd have a look at the DVD (remastered disc from, heh, 2001) and the swathes of patchwork material are very much evident in several shots throughout the Dawn of Man sequence. So does this mean that even mere DVD resolution is too mighty for the intended 65mm magnificence of this film? Or is it more that the exacting, quantifiable nature of video in general sometimes throws out a curveball that no filmmaker could've anticipated? I can sleep easier about my paying "lip service" to original intent whilst wanting sparkling new 4K transfers now - well, at least as far as 2001's concerned anyway.

In the general Seattle area, the BD is being sold by the Silver Platters chain. I haven't checked any other brick and mortars locally.

The BD, which is unspooling at present, looks stunning.

Oh damn. That's EXTREMELY classy how Universal did the stamping and printing for the Slipcover. Hoping when I receive mine it'll have it. Makes me want to even more grab the single disc OST for it. Does the disc have full color label artwork (i.e. Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection USA has full color disc label art) or is it the generic blue ink?

Now all I need to do is watch the TV series! Also the Goran Visnjic 2004 Spartacus TV movie. I think Netflix DVD/Blu-ray has both.
[Show spoiler]I'd rather have discs instead of Streaming.

Oh, go on then. I'll have the US one with that sweet, sweet slip instead of the U.K. steel. Ordered.
