Slckevin - sounds like a PSU issue to me...if it posts and goes into BIOS, it should not shut down while still in BIOS

anyone get affected by the "internet outage" Comcast told me it was "nation-wide" but I don't know if they meant nation-wide for them or for the entire country

Random observation. The greatest username I've ever seen:

@reider: sometimes its a good thing to be wrong. Just not as often as my wife accuses me of it though.

everytime I try to load F@H my PS3 freezes
It will go the the load screen (all black with white letters and F@H logo) and that is it. no controller response, nothing. This was since v2.10 update.

Yeah, you noticed . It took about 24 hours for a 5,000,000 step project, and threw me right up in the rankings (350-400 note: a hint of sarcasm) it was worth quite a few points compared to the PS3 100,000 page projects. Time vs points the SMP is worth more i think. Plus IF the actual work is the same we can see that the SMP doing 5MM steps in 24 hours (approx.) vs PS3 doing 900K in 24 hours (approx.), I am running both so they both help. Unfortunately I used the PS3 with a different user name at first so I have another 500 points under pmac-PS3. When we move I will look at setting up another box in the house, and maybe do it from work box as well, but that is not high powered, not sure what package to run on a P3.

Thanks for the help!

deftech- delete folding at home and then re-download it

if that doesn't work, a quick reformat might do the trick

After reading some of the comments in this thread, I've decided to break down and build a Q6600 box. I would apprecate any advice from the SMP client gurus here on how to most easily get this done.

For starters, I will probably be ordering the CPU and Mobo from Amazon. It seems that the ASUS P5K is the way to go? Which version of it?

I plan to re-use whatever I can from my existing system. I'm currently running 2 X Seagate 160 GB SATA HDD's connected in RAID 0. I realy would prefer not to format the drives and start with them blank. Is that going to be possible? The OS I'll be using is XP Pro.

Any info much appreciated.

I am using the P5K-E wifi
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131196

I got my processor from Newegg as well
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819115017

Your hard drives will work fine as should your optical drives (if you plan on bringing any over)
It does has 1 EIDE cable connector for a max of 2 drives on EIDE

It also doesn't have video built in so look to buy a PCIE video card as well.

PSU needs to have a 24 pin power supply for motherboard as well

I saw it at $249 on Amazon. Well I can vouch for newegg.com - have had only good results from them. You can also buy the OEM chip (no intel box, no cpu fan, reduced warranty) there for about 10% less ($234) from there: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018

Of course, don't think you have a Fry's in Anchorage, but if you have any friends in Seattle/Renton, you can buy a Q6600 boxed chip and motherboard for $229 until this Thursday:
http://www.netaffilia.com/ad/electro.../04/31148.html

(Yes.. that's correct, you can buy a boxed chip with motherboard in the store for less than you can find the chip alone online. Gotta love the Fry's loss leader specials... )

Thanks for all the good info, No Fry's in Alaska so bummer that I can't catch that deal

I will need to get a new graphics card as well since my current one is AGP. I think I should be fine on the PSU as my current system is not all that old. I'm running an Athlon 64 F/X CPU paired up to a Asus A8V mobo. When I built the thing I didn't want to have any PSU worries so I installed one of those big Antec Phantom power supply's, 5 or 600 watts iirc. I'll need new memory as well, but that seems pretty cheap compared to what I paid for the 2 gigs I currently have.

Guess I'll start making a list and get the stuff ordered

This won't help you AlaskaDon, but for anyone who lives near a Microcenter, they still have the Q6600 for $199 in store. And be careful with those Fry combos, the motherboards in those are typically crap.
