Alright, another blu-ray.com folder. Welcome to the team!

We're growing quickly now and we are closing in on the top 100 folding teams in the world! (No doubt due to our PS3 bias. )

Did the hard drive die, the motherboard, or the video card? I had to send my original PS3 60 GB back to Sony under warrantee due to a dead video card. Even though I folded on it 24/7, I am not certain folding was the cause. Just a faulty component finally giving out. My repaired 60 GB and my 2 40 GB PS3s fold all the time now. They're designed very well and I don't expect any of them to fail for a very long time even at the max load I am applying to them.

The current server is pretty strong as well, but we will soon start to have bandwidth issues, so after we have put our new players section online (this monday-tuesday or so) we will move blu-ray.com to the new server which is hosted at another place with a dedicated 1000Mbit connection
This will also allow us to host lots of images and screenshots etc
So are you going to get access to fold on the current blu-ray.com server once its retired by the 16 core beast you're currently folding on? I'm sure it's no slouch either.

400 WUs... not bad at all. And right after you broke into the top 40 to boot! Dang. How do you know you melted your GPU and Cell?

I knew it was my video card when mine died because I could boot it up, hear the startup sounds and hear the XMB navigation as I used the controller, but it no longer output any video to my big screen.

How long does it take to do an average work unit on that monster?

Looks like we're at 126 according to: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...ist.php?s=&p=2
I wish we could recruit more members. Looks like we've really made some super progress lately.

I really like the way they have the stats set up on EOC. Hey, has anybody noticed that according to the info there, we will pass the AVS Forum team in just a little over a week?

I had to slow my production down a little...took four processes off line to re-do my quad core to hopefully give me dual boot ability with XP so that I can run the SMP client (because no matter what, I can't get the SMP to set-up).
Who'da thunk that SATA drives are such a PITA on a format and re-do...keep and old IDE drive to save you the headache I experienced (and I am still not at the end result - I am just back to a clean PC with a new Vista install).

I am still running on a laptop, PS3 and work PC but 2 of those will be coming off-line for 4 days due to other obligations.

Folding@Home can't kill the video card because it doesn't use it, even more so if you have the screensaver enabled, only the cell is utilized to do the calculations. Now, the heat coming from the cell processor may kill the video card though, but not before breaking the cell as well.

Blah, I wish I had a few hundred more, but 400 is okay. I only have 340 on my Blu-ray team name; and 75 on my other team. I used to be in the Blu-ray.com top 30, I have no idea how I slipped down so much.

I called Sony and they said that my PS3 got ultra-overheated and fried my processor and GPU to the point that it was unusable. I might cut back on my folding when my replacement comes...or just buy an intercooler.

I just updated to v1.31 yesterday. Didn't know there was a new update till yesterday. I don't fold quite that often but I try to get some units done.

Yikes! First time I've heard of that. Did you have your PS3 in an open space?

Actually I don't know since we only get large WUs but a large WU takes about 18h

I thought it was in an open space, but I leave it on 24/7. It's been months since it's been turned off.

Is this open enough?

How far away is that black back panel? And what would you say is the average room temperature?

If I were you I would put the replacement PS3 on the bottom and switch the combo player to the top. Better yet, just put it on the right side of the TV, on the floor, on some plywood (never carpet), unless the wife objects of course

Hmm, that back panel is like 3-4 inches away from the back of the PS3. Maybe that's why it overheated...

And I'm only 16; and wife-less
