It hangs up on the configuration where you have to enter the admin password...it gives an error that I don't know what to do next with.

Note, my laptop is running the graphical interface and was given a 1500 WU but it took days to complete. Now it is getting 400 WU. It's 3 yrs old (AMD Athlon 3400+ and 1GB of ram) and I think should be running much quicker...is the graphic interface slowing it down?
Installing smp on a Windows box (assuming you are running windows as I don't think other OSes require admin access) isn't as easy as a single client - for SMP you have to install it as administrator and also create a new user with admin rights and run it as that user. A search for "SMP FAH Setup" got some good results - this link seems ok:
http://www.overclockingwiki.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1503

You don't need to run it as a service; I'd recommend you get it working first before trying the service route.

However, there is great incentive to get the SMP client working, as then you'll get the large point WUs (such as the 1760 point work units that you can knock out in a day or so).

As for the graphical interface - yes I'm told that slows things down. Like any other app, the console/text client has less overhead than the graphical client, so it tends to be a bit faster. I'm not familiar with the chip you mention, so can't comment there - sites do exist that compare FAH points per day performance on various chips/oses, you could check with one of those.

Hi Guys,

Please can you help me here. I am trying to sign up on my PS3 and need a little assistance.

Under name it says PS3
Team is 56895

Completed 7 units ( but this is from before playing around)

Am I joined and where do I actually put my name?

Thanks for helping.

The first thing I would do is to come up with a name, then go to the Folding@Home website and search for it (to make sure noone else is using it). Repeat until you have found a name that is unique (else your points could be combined with someone else's).
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...type=userstats

Once you have settled on a name that is unique, change it on your PS3.
Start Folding@Home. If your PS3 is folding, hit the triangle button, select "Identity" and then select "Change Donor Name". Enter your new name and save it (it looks like you have the Blu-ray.com team already set correctly). I would guess that the selections should be similar if you are not folding.

Once this is done, all of the work units submitted after the change will reflect your new name.

Default Blu-Ray Folding@home team

I have a few questions about our blu-ray folding team. What specifically are we working on? What is our overall task(s).

I'm curious, because I work in a server room, with a 23 node cluster that I might be able to install folding on. I just have to battle my boss, who wants to do the same thing with his team lol.

As well as the cluster, I might be able to use some of our less used servers as well (we have about 50 servers or so because I work at a school).

Lastly for those that dont know:

Team blu-ray.com
Number:56895

Folding is a distributed computing application started at Stanford (correct me if I'm wrong) which turns computers and PS3's into larger super-computers, tackling HUGE projects faster than any 1 computer (or super-computer) could. There is a much more technical explanation, but that is unnecessary.

okay so go look for my name on the above website and then go to the unit and put in the new name.

Since it's so new and I did the update, that might be why it had PS3 as the name.

I will give it a try later.

Thank you.

Check this out:
http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?showtopic=30356

According to a moderator on the folding@home forums, the Windows graphical client and text only client should have about the same performance as long as the graphical client is minimized to the system tray. Therefore make sure box "Turn on screensaver after..." is unchecked. This is under the display tab in configuration

Thanks for the info

I stopped the graphical program and re-installed the text only client and it is flying on the laptop...the graphic interface was a core robbing hog.

I will check out that link on the SMP...Vista is proving to be a huge $180 waste of cash

Unfortunately it's just temporary
We will use that server shortly as main server for blu-ray.com. The current server is pretty strong as well, but we will soon start to have bandwidth issues, so after we have put our new players section online (this monday-tuesday or so) we will move blu-ray.com to the new server which is hosted at another place with a dedicated 1000Mbit connection
This will also allow us to host lots of images and screenshots etc

I signed up a long time ago, I just registered a USER for the forums today however. I've been visiting Blu-ray.com religiously since January of 07. Just wanted to put notice in that I am a folder for us.

If you registered as PanamaMarco and with team 56895 you should show up at the above link (as your current name) a little while after you complete your first unit of work under your current name.
