It really depends on what else beside the quad you're installing in your box. If you are going to OC the quad, you can expect your motherboard+CPU to consume up to 250W. If you install high-end graphics - that's another 100W+ (double that number for CrossFire or SLI). Drives and fans another 100W. After adding up wattages for all the hardware you're going to install - purchase a PSU that is rated at least 50% higher. As far as brands go - the only two brands I never had problems with were Antec and Corsair.

Thank you.. think im going to get a 650w. Just have to wait for newegg to ship. I wanted to try out my Dell psu but doesnt fit in the case to test it out, and didnt want to test it otherwise. I just hope this is the issue.

Yea, I didn't see QUAD in the post when I replied. But still, a bare quad folder is being quoted at 185W at 3.6GHz. I believe that is running NotFred's folding cd so no vid card or hd.

Yeah it will be folding a lot but Im throwing in a 8800gts a 750gb hd. Want to get into photo and video editing before I have kids so I already have it mastered. But can go wrong with helping the cure for cancer while Im learning how to do things. Going to have lots of free time to figure this out once I finishing passing a series 63.

Sounds pretty much like the box that I just built. Q6600, P5K-E, 8800 GTS, 500 GB HDD, and a DVD-RW. That's all I have installed, but was a little concerned at first with only having a 500W psu. It's handling the load fine, but I think I would prefer a 650W also. I'm running 7 fans plus the Zalman in a big Thermaltake tower case

Yep I've got the Zalman ZM-MFC2 fan controller with realtime power meter; I've never gone over 210W under full load/folding on my Q6600 G0 which is oc'd to 3GHZ; 8GB ram, 2x1TB hd, and lots of fans

I'm running linux with no gui. I'll also agree both that if you have a high-end graphics card you will need to have more power, and going 50% higher is a good idea. However I personally may switch over to the Antec earthwatts 380PSU - am using a Zalman 650 now, and think it is a waste (will move it to a system with higher end graphics).

Woohoo well got the quad up finnaly. But only thing is I have to use my old Dell hdd (though it is a seagate.. which is the same type as I just got, just a 750g instead of a 80g)which is the only hdd which it can see. It doesnt see the Dvd drive yet, or when I stick in a PCI wireless card. There was already WinXP installed on the hdd... But least I can see some progress. soon it will be a folding machine!

Just thought I would post some info for anybody that is scratching their head over what their PS3 is currently doing. Mine is currently working on a work unit that is taking over a day to complete, yet looks like it is one of the work units that gives only 125 points. It even has the same project number as the old 125 point work unit, or appears to anyway.

In reality, if you look at Current Project under Info, you will see that the project number is really 4044, not what is currently showing on the main display. It's actually worth 1200 points rather than 125 points that you would normally get, so no worries there

Don't even bother with the stats right now. They've been messed up all week, the servers are getting killed by all the little dinky work units out there right now.

It looks like everything is back to normal today, but we thought that once last week too.

Yeah...it seemed odd that I was getting blanks for extended periods of the day for a while there. Getting large WUs all over except on my work PC

I hope Stanford gave generous deadlines for these huge PS3 WU's... otherwise all our "casual" folders wouldn't be able to complete them in time and get credited.

These giant units were supposed to be for people who set their PS3 for advanced mode. Are you guys seeing any of them on standard?

2000 points awesome , wasn't the PS3 limited to 1000 points a day before? Or was that just a rumor?
