£350 to watch a couple of crummy TV shows? Pass. Note that the box has no internal storage, a tacit admission if ever there was one that Sony are still not going to launch 4K Unlimited outside of the States.

On a more serious note, for those readers and listeners who have heard of Wally Pfister ‘cinematographer extraordinaire’ (http://www.suntimes.com/entertainmen...l#.U1ghyPldWSo ) but haven’t heard of Curtis Clark, well, here ya go – http://www.theasc.com/ac_magazine/Ma...kASC/page1.php |

![]() 4k OLED tvs are comparatively quite expensive esp. for those having a tenuous job situation and I don’t expect the OLED adoption rate (regardless of the resolution) to dramatically change for quite awhile. Which brings me to a little known upstream (in mastering facilities) ‘debasing’ fact about OLED and LCDs , which may rile up current and future OLED owners even more….. You see, because the vast, vast majority of consumers watch content on LCD tvs, high end facilities that use professional OLED monitors for mastering material, have the colorist use a LUT to purposely limit the contrast (to around 1500:1) in order that he doesn’t crush the detail in the grade. So, in other words, even though content is being mastered on OLED professional monitors in some facilities, consumer OLED owners are not getting the full potential of what the OLED grading could be, due to the fact that LCDs rule in consumers’ homes. P.S. singhcr ![]() We watched the first episode so far and liked it. ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 04-24-2014 at 06:36 AM. Reason: bolding and typo |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynagroove I have not had a chance to see the new Fargo TV show yet, but I am planning on watching the pilot this weekend. The accent is a bit overdone for the movie (you need to go very far up north to hear that level of accent), but overall it does capture the midwestern demeanor very well and the cinematography is excellent as is almost everything that Deakins does. I also like movies set in wintertime. It was fun seeing Minneapolis in a movie and other locations that I have been to in person. I also like how the Coen brothers are from MN and placed Brainerd south of Minneapolis when in reality it's a good 3 hours north of it. ![]() Last edited by singhcr; 04-24-2014 at 02:28 PM. |

You have a real knack. I would consider making internet research assistant, your chosen profession. Quickly scanning, it seems to me that most of those entries have already been presented in one fashion or another on this thread or others on Blu-ray.com in the past, not uncommonly along with more detailed personal editorial analysis -
For instance, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ci#post8935571 Nice retrospective summary listing though ![]() |

IMHO, good acting and good writing. Also it’s different than 90% of TV series (predictably boring with predictable characters and predictable plots), which I find tedious to watch, not to mention, some of which give me eye strain due to the shaky cam effect. Honestly, some of the ‘action’ TV shows these days, I can only watch on a 55” screen…nothing larger, because of that particular *creative* look.
