Will Shia Labeouf's character be addressed in this? Or will the movie act like he doesn't exist?

What if Mutt gets brainwashed by the Soviet agents and becomes evil. So now Indy goes to stop him.

Whoa it's been a decade since KOTCS.

As much as I liked KOTCS, I'm hoping they go back to Indy's roots ala historical artifacts. Also wish they would've got on this fifth movie years ago, Ford isn't getting any younger.

As much as I’m very excited for this, Harrison will be 76 turning 77 when they film it, and I’m praying they don’t just go for a lighter comedy vibe, like Crusade, due to his age. I’d like one last hard edged film, like the first 2, to go out on a high. I should say that I do still love Crusade, and I enjoy Skull mostly, but the first 2 are the best IMO.
The only thing I can say about the story development on Crystal Skull is that it suffered from nearly 20 years of plot and concept rewrites and ended up a big mish-mash of ideas. I remember reading a script online in the late 90's about Indy going after Noah's Ark which had some scenes that ended up in Crystal Skull. At least this one won't have that same baggage, so we'll see if it helps.

I agree about the harder edge-- I'm hoping the next one brings back the tone of Raiders. Last Crusade was a bit lighter, but Crystal Skull was practically a Disney cartoon next to those first two Indy films. Spielberg needs to take it back to it's more gritty, pulpy roots.

I never understood why people complained about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull having aliens. The film was paying homage to the B-list sci-fi movies from the 50s, which is where the movie was set in. Just like how Raiders of the Lost Ark was paying homage to all of the adventure serials from the 30s. I do wonder what the fifth film will pay homage to, though. Maybe Indy 5 will be set in the 80s? Makes sense considering how nostalgic Hollywood has been about the 80s lately.

I agree with the fact that it was a perfect fit for Indiana Jones, given the decade. No doubt. But I think most people complain about how the alien thing was handled. I wasn't too pleased with that finale either, even though I thought the movie was not bad at all.

Next: Atlantis?

Yeah I didn't hate Indy KOTCS as most people do. But I do think they should have made a Part-IV in the 90s when Ford was younger.

I agree that it was more how it was done.
Atlantis would be cool! They had a game of it!

I am excited for this movie, I just won't let my expectations get too high

KOTCS was a step in the wrong direction. Some of the action scenes were borderline comical (in a bad way). If your going to do action at least make it believable and if it has to be funny, make sure its an attempt at something that went wrong. Rather than silly stunts like swinging from trees like a monkey.

Firstly make the terrain exciting and adventurous. Take us on a journey where there is a goal we can identify with at the beginning.

Mutt swinging like Tarzan was awful.

Maybe the fifth part will be about Indy retrieving Ark Of Covenant again? They already teased it was in Hangar 51 during the opening sequence of KOTCS. Probably it was stolen or would have fallen in the wrong hands again.

The Spielberg factor though.... Examining his timeline really the only time interjection makes sense would be 1995 or 1996 and then we might not have gotten Saving Private Ryan the way we did following that. Each action changes future events. We may have gotten the movie. But it could have been a different shot movie, certainly different cast, and so ultimately different/weaker impact on cinema.. No thanks.

Not for a Indiana Jones picture in place of that legacy. You can have Lost World and Amistad for a good indy 4 to exist. But don't touch mah SPR

Take away "The Terminal" for Indy 4 any day of the week. But Lucas was deep in Prequel land. Maybe that's good....

I don’t know, the aliens were basically just in a few shots, given that the previous Indy films featured boxes of ghosts, magic stones, and a dusty cup that granted immortality, I didn’t find the aliens that hard to swallow.

I feel there's too much talk of how much KOTCS did or didn't suck and not enough discussion of just what kind of movie we're likely to get with Indy 5. So let's look at the evidence so far.In an interview last year, Spielberg did say 'we have a Macguffin. That's all I'll say for now'. So they know what movie they're making. What could that Macguffin be? I think there are three main possibilities:

1. It's believed that the Dinoland USA part of Disney's Animal Kingdom is going to be redone and rethemed as Indiana Jones Land. So could the Macguffin of Indy 5 be dinosaurs, hiding in plain sight? Possibly, but it's not like Spielberg hasn't done dinosaurs before. Involving Indy in a possible Land That Time Forget scenario would actually have potential.

2. Maybe they could follow the pattern of Blade Runner 2049. What if Indy, like Deckard, disappeared years ago in order to protect a secret, maybe the location of The Ark, The Grail or something else. Maybe, like K in BR 2049, a younger guy is actually going on the adventure and action part of the movie. This would tie in with the rumors of Chris Pratt' s involvement and get around Ford's advancing years. It would be neat twist to have Indy himself be the Macguffin and the valuable artefact that people are seeking.

3. Expect it to be Antipodean in its settings. For each of the four films so far we have a movie mainly set in each of the four major continents (Raiders - Africa, Temple of Doom - Asia, Last Crusade - Europe and Crystal Skull - the Americas). Australia hasn't been mined by the franchise yet, at least in the movies. Are there any major myths or archaeological possibilities in Australia that are suited to Indiana Jones?
