Quote:
Martin Scorsese’s cinematic mastery is on full display in this sweeping crime saga, which serves as an elegiac summation of his six-decade career. Left behind by the world, former hit man and union truck driver Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) looks back from a nursing home on his life’s journey through the ranks of organized crime: from his involvement with Philadelphia mob boss Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci) to his association with Teamsters union head Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) to the rift that forced him to choose between the two. An intimate story of loyalty and betrayal writ large across the epic canvas of mid-twentieth-century American history, The Irishman (based on the real-life Sheeran’s confessions, as told to writer Charles Brandt for the book I Heard You Paint Houses) is a uniquely reflective late-career triumph that balances its director’s virtuoso set pieces with a profoundly personal rumination on aging, mortality, and the decisions and regrets that shape a life.

Now the question is. Where will it be split to fit on two discs or all crammed into one?

There’s no reason it can’t be on 1 disc.

Sure, but by putting it on one disc, the chances for poor compression becomes much higher.

Even if it is on one disc, Day 1 from me. I'm so glad Criterion is saving so many Netflix films from a digital streaming only hell.

It’ll probably be one disc with the extras on the second disc.

You guys are joking, right? This ISN’T a set. It’s the announcement of all these films INDIVIDUALLY coming to Criterion later this year.

He knows that. He's referring just to The Irishman and its lengthy runtime. I think it'd be fine on one disc, with extras possibly on a second.

You’re joking right? You think we thought four movies would be out on disc by Criterion’s that have no connection to each other but the company that released them?

The Irishman is 3 hours and 29 minutes and 1.85:1 aspect ratio. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that it’s split into 2 discs. Ben-Hur is a few minutes longer and on 2 discs. So I thought it was a real concern that if they cram it onto 1 disc that compression will be a mess.

Day 1 from me, along with their other Netflix licenses when they release. It is so good that these films will be getting the releases they deserve- lots of great extras on physical disc.
