Alright, I updated it with smaller pictures, fixed spacing issue, and included more detailed instructions for specifically step 10 (hardest and most complicated step). Also I labeled all the pictures with the corresponding steps.

Mike: Your 80GB is SACD capable right? Does it play SACD after the replacement?

I could probably work on this and make it into a PDF.

SACD? Ummm I'm not sure what those are so I haven't tried it out. Do you have any you recommend for me to try out?

Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of the Moon" SACD hybrid is phenomenal and can be played by both regular cd players and SACD players. It would be a good test if your PS3 couldn't read the SACD and you didn't want to waste your money.

Yes I have and it works perfectly! After replacing the laser I no longer have the issue with holding down the eject button in order to put in Blu-Rays. Don't freak out as the reason this occurred is because I opened the disc drive while there was a disc in there. This is why I point out several times in it to avoid that situation at all costs as to fix that will take another manual. I'll be more than happy to help out anyone who accidently does what I did.

I recently just ordered that Pink Floyd SACD and should arrive in a day or two. I'll post back here if it works.

Cool! I think the SACD will work too. If the BDs play so will the SACDs.

Well not necessarily as the newer models of the PS3s do not support SACD playback as well as the 40GB models. It will not be fault of my seller of the laser as he doesn't specify if it plays SACDs. Either way, I've never heard of SACDs until I made this thread anyway so it will not affect me too much. So I am hoping that its capability is somewhere other than the laser, which I think could be possible (not sure until I get it though).

You have an 80GB so it does support it, according to this: -

It will work, if not....like you said, no loss. I've never used SACDs before myself.

Oh I understand that, but he is wondering if replacing the laser will affect this or not. Also I'll let you know if I hear a big difference in the audio quality on the SACD to see if we should start purchasing those or not.

Great news folks, it still plays SACDs!

Oh man, if you have a 5.1 Home Theatre setup, then I recommend to always purchase the SACD if at all possible. The difference is immense.

Quite definately!

Its basically comparing Normal CD quality (2.0 Stereo) to High Quality 5.1 surround sound.

My personal opinion is that once it picks up more momentum, it will overlap mainstream CDs. The only issue is that you need a SACD player in order to play the HD layer. Therefore if you buy a hybrid and do not have a SACD player, then you can only hear the CD part. These are on DVD FYI.
