Maybe I misread something. Are you saying that it is much further away?

There's speculation that they won't be released until around the time that The Hobbit is released.

Personal decision, that's all.
I agree. I bought the EE versions on DVD instead of the theatrical versions. At first I liked the novelty of the new and extended scenes but after repeat viewing they just seemed silly. A couple of the scenes didn't even work, like the Gandalf/Pippen conversation in RotK when McKellen coughs so much as he smokes his pipe he can't even deliver his lines.

So what is everyone's selling point on this set? Im hoping for a price range of $30-$35. Probably a Black Friday lightning deal if it comes to that. Or If I find it in a used sale.

I'm fine with paying the current price. I think $20 a piece (or slightly more in this case) for movies of this caliber is reasonable. I realize not everyone feels the same, but that's my stance.

I have no problem paying $65 for the set. Won't pay any more than that, though.

+1. Again, you have to consider what you are getting. This isn't Mariah Carey's "Glitter" that we're talking about!

I'm not saying that people that wait for it to be cheaper are wrong, but I don't think there's anything wrong with buying this trilogy right away either. It's all a matter of how much they are worth to you, and this one is of course a good one. I bought The Bourne Trilogy when it first came out while a lot of people were waiting for a price drop because of my opinion of the series.

Ah good point on BF. I'll wait until then. I don't think it will drop to $30 though (not within the first year, that's 10/movie which is dirt cheap). $35-40 seems like a decent range.

True, I know everyone doesn't value the LOTR series as much as I do - I see them as much more than "just movies". I look at them as a dream-come-true that was decades in the making, and followed every micro-event of their development on TheOneRing.net. But all of that aside, I can't see how $20 each would be a rip-off, even for the most casual viewer.

I don't care if they're 20 bucks each
I'll just save some money for now and get them asap!

I haven't seen any of the LOTR for over a year! I'm saving that for the high def experience, that way I can see them for the first time again...

It will definitely be a treat once you have the HD versions in hand. I'm currently holding back on watching Indy on DVD..in hopes that we'll get a Blu release this year but eh..who knows.
