Thanks to the geezer who recommended Blast Of Silence. I had heard that it's underrated and will check it out. Sounds like my sort of film.

Hey MifuneFan, since this thread is kinda in a lull, perhaps this would be a good time to do some sort of vote on films that haven't been included in the OP list but are in contention?

Yeah okay. I'll go through the thread and see all the ones that weren't added. Some might have just been overlooked, so it's a good thing to do anyway.

I nominate the Twilight Time Blu-ray of All the King's Men. It's an excellent disc.

In terms of studios not upgrading classic film nor titles, Warner is the main culprit from what I can tell. Here's my list of favorites:

1. Out of the Past (1947)
2. Asphalt Jungle (1950)
3. Mildred Pierce (1945)
4. The Letter (1940)
5. Cat People (1942) *
6. Crime Wave (1954)
7. The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) *
8. Murder, My Sweet (1944)
9. The Narrow Margin (1952)
10. The Window (1949)

* not sure if classic film noir, but close enough imo.

That is a great list, if it was me I would add The Lady from the Lake , Stranger on the Third Floor (wound up as an archive phooey) The Big Sleep

My favorites:

GUN CRAZY
KISS ME DEADLY
EXPERIMENT IN TERROR
NIGHTMARE ALLEY
THE BIG CLOCK

and some lower-budget films:

WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR
THE GLASS CAGE (1964)
ANGELS FLIGHT (1965, virtually unreleased)

Warner Bros. is definitely the worst offender, because the company's noir holdings are massive (their own films plus RKO, Monogram, etc.), but they've done virtually nothing with them on blu-ray. Your list is just a taste of what they haven't released; not one of the 33 films in their noir DVD box sets have made it onto blu-ray, and neither have any of their Bogart noirs, with the exception of The Maltese Falcon.

I'd just about sell my soul to get the RKO titles on Blu-ray.

The 1947 film noir, Out of the Past, which recently dethroned Le Samouraï as my all-time favorite movie when I rediscovered the DVD and realized how good it looks on an HDTV, is obviously the top item on my Blu-ray wishlist, but there are a great many others from the Warner Film Noir Classic Collection DVD sets. I'd love to see the Val Lewton movies upgraded as well. The Seventh Victim falls squarely into the film noir genre in my book.

Yes, it'd be great if WB could start to re-release those boxes in high def. We'd get The Set-Up and Gun Crazy for a start with Volume 1.

Anyone here watch the movie Jack Reacher? I saw it a few months back, and I thought a lot of it had a neo-noir feel to it. There's a lot of dialogue that feels like a throwback to detective movies from the 40's and 50's (perhaps straight from the novels), and the whole atmosphere feels very noirish too. It does have a thriller plot, I just think there's a noir feel there too. In any event, I was pleasantly surprised by it, and would say it's worth checking out.

It's a good movie, but I don't think it qualifies as (neo-)noir.

I have no idea why there's a holdup with this release. It should have been on blu already!

When Warner Bros. prepared and released the original DVD in 2004, the studio created a HD master as a source. So they've been sitting on a BD-ready transfer for literally a decade without releasing it.

Could someone help identify this noir movie for me? All I remember is there was a girl in what I think was an office building, and someone outside, maybe across in another building, what shining a flashlight at her.

Sounds like Touch of Evil.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052311/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The scene you may be thinking of starts at 12:50 in the following video:
