Seeing both Pickup on South Street and Night and the City at the cinema on Sunday evening. Will be a great double bill.

Bogart and Bacall look so sophisticated and cool in those crisp dress shirts.

Don't forget Claire Trevor and her Academy Award winning performance.

Fa sho u right. But where she really shines for me is in Murder My Sweet. But even as beautiful as she is in this film, I find my eyes on Anne Shirley more.

While we're on Claire Trevor, has anyone seen Hoodlum Empire, and if so, is it good, great, or just ok?

Default Another Man's Poison

After watching Classic Flix's Blu-ray edition of" Another Man's Poison "I am concerned about the quality level of the forthcoming "T-Men" and "Raw Deal".

To me the picture quality of "Another Mans Poison" was unexceptional.

I was shocked at how good Another Man's Poison looked. I can't recommend that blu enough.

Maybe because I was expecting a flat looking faded washed out looking image.

This site gave Another Man's Poison a 4.5 for PQ, stating

Quote:
Mr. Kawas shared that this nicely done restoration came courtesy of Cohen Media Group, and may have been done in conjunction with the British Film Institute (and just to prove that independent labels can all get along, evidently Shout! Factory facilitated the deal). The results here are largely excellent, featuring elements devoid of even any minor damage, with a nicely resolved grain field and excellent contrast. Detail levels are generally very high, offering some great fine detail like the little hairs that fly away from Davis' mohair sweater. Some occasional slight deficits in shadow detail accrue in some of the many dark scenes (as can be seen in a couple of screenshots included in this review), and there's also just a bit of wobble during the British Censor card and the opening titles. There's also what looks like an optical zoom toward the end of the film where grain gets just a little overly gritty looking (as should be expected - see screenshot 9), but otherwise this is a great beginning for ClassicFlix that the label will hopefully be able to continue as they release more Blu-rays.
The screenshots look pretty good to me. Perhaps a bit dark and contrast-y in some shots, but nothing really egregious.

Another Man's Poison and The Killer is Loose both look pretty good to me.

Have you seen the old Image DVD? The blu is an incredible upgrade compared to that.

Wow, I think I've seen enough Criterion or Kino or Warner Brothers blu-rays editions to recognize inferior product like a Film Chest or Film Detective puts out, the Classic Flix" Another Mans Poison" looks like the latter to me

Great news from the Warner Archive Collection today: Hell on Frisco Bay (1955), a rare CinemaScope color noir, will be receiving a blu-ray release on October 24.

If I remember correctly, this one was tied up in rights issues with the Ladd estate, so it's great to see it finally get a long-awaited remaster and HD release.

No I have not seen the old Image dvd

I am not saying the Classic Flix version is terrible, it's just not up to the level many of the other company's products like Twilight Time, Olive, Kino, etc.

I hope T-men and Raw Deal look better. I bought the Classic flix AMP to see how good their product was going to be, and its close to sub par in this case. In my humble opinion.

I honestly have no idea where this criticism is coming from. I can't imagine a release from a different label looking much better than what ClassicFlix put out. So far, I've been impressed with their output, especially for such a new label. They are definitely ahead of where TT and Olive were when they first started.

I love that rooftop scene. The smog and the high rise buildings, and the chase. I love that atmosphere.
