Was able to send the Woman in the Window dvd back for a refund. So I'll only be out the $2.67 for return shipping. Now, will patiently wait for Kino......

The only review I could find that mentions any issue is in the following article, and the reviewer had the same issues I did: highs and mids were brittle, and the dialogue was extremely thin and sibilant. I appreciate any responses with anyone else's experiences with the disc!

It's most likely an audio issue unless its related to the source. I don't own it but just by reading your post I could tell its most likely a problematic audio track. I've read lots of reviews praising very problematic audio in the past where I did own the disc and the audio was awful and couldn't believe it got praised

When Film Score Monthly released a CD of Bernard Herrmann's score for ON DANGEROUS GROUND, it had several passages which were quite damaged. I'm guessing that the audio for the film is problematic.

I received my copy of Arrow's release of The Big Knife today. Here's a pic of the reverse cover for anyone interested:

Great. Now DVD Beaver tell us it's missing 66 seconds from a scene. They've contacted Arrow.
Wait and see I guess. Should have waited for the review before ordering it.

As for Touchez Pas Au Grisbi, I was going to replace the 'dancing with the stars' style cover art with the Criterion DVD cover art and when I opened my DVD case I realized there was a big ol.' liner notes in there with a big photo, viola!

I just ordered Crime of Passion from Amazon for $22.69. The release day is tomorrow.

ClassicFlix is being sneaky with these great releases. I did find out about this title earlier, but it still came in under the radar, and the release date caught me off guard.

T-Men comes out next month, and I'm sure that the Amazon price will go down before then.

Hi, all-- forum newbie here. I'm very late to the blu ray party, having spent most of my hi-res budget on the audio side to date, leaving me with a collection of... 29 blu rays at this point. (I know, I know.). Onto the buying binge!

A couple of questions:
(1) in the case of public domain noir titles like Big Combo or Scarlet Street, can one buy with confidence? Wait until a boutique-y shop like Criterion does a full-on, 2k or 4K restoration? Or none of the above?

(2) Can you recommend me some sleeper titles (i.e., ones not on Criterion and not stone classics like Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard etc.) that the smaller blu ray labels have put out?

Thanks, and look forward to reviewing the thread in detail!

Get Scarlet Street and The Big Combo now. Just do it!

As far as what you call sleeper titles,

I Wake Up Screaming
Sudden Fear
Murder My Sweet
Postman Always Rings Twice
Cry of the City

I apologize if this post offends anyone here, but all of this news about Hurricane Irma makes me want to revisit my Key Largo Blu-ray this weekend.

Robinson with his down to an art psychopathic gangster acting skills, Bogart with his hard boiled mannerisms and I don't give a damn about anyone but me attitude, and Bacall with her sexy shyness, all backed by a claustrophobic atmosphere and bleak shadows. Oh, you gotta do it.
