A pair of Paramount noir titles coming from Kino on September 20th have leaked out.

The first is one that was strongly suspected, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946). This release is from a new 4K scan from a fine grain print, and should be much improved compared to the public domain-sourced Blu-ray from Film Chest.

Young Martha (Barbara Stanwyck) inadvertently causes the death of her cruel, authoritarian aunt. Martha lies to the cops, and Walter (Kirk Douglas), who saw the crime, corroborates the girl's story. Eventually, they wed out of convenience; the meek Walter is genuinely in love, and Martha thinks that her secret is safe since she has married the one witness to her aunt's death. However, when her childhood pal, Sam (Van Heflin), shows up, Martha knows her dark past may not stay a secret for long.

Second is The Turning Point (1952), starring William Holden, and Edmund O'Brien.

Prosecutor John Conroy (Edmond O'Brien) is determined to bring down organized crime in his Midwestern town. He looks to his father, Matt (Tom Tully), a police officer, for help, but Matt refuses. John's childhood friend Jerry McKibbon (William Holden), an investigative reporter, senses something fishy and spies on Matt. Jerry learns that Matt is communicating with a gangster (Ed Begley), but hides his discovery from John. Instead, Jerry confides in John's girlfriend, Mandy (Alexis Smith).

Both of these titles can also be found in Imprint's upcoming Essential Film Noir - Collection 3 boxset.

It means it is possible Nothing confirmed though. The good news is, Kino would definitely want it. So either they got it, or Paramount is going to release it themselves (or possibly another label licensed it for release).

Paramount is listed for the iTunes version, so presumably not whatever Film Chest put out.

I'd offer to take screencaps, but I have no real way of doing so that would accurately show the quality.

If they're remastered from a 4K scan, doesn't that mean there will be an UHD down the line?

Definitely not. Only a small percentage of films that are from 4K scans will ever make it to 4K UHD. There simply isn't a large enough market for them for studios, and labels to produce them.

Yes, there is a reason: there's not big enough of a market for these titles on 4K UHD, especially at the price point they would need to be in order to turn a profit for the distributor.

As GunsNRoses stated, Martha Ivers does not have the same popularity, as say Double Indemnity, to warrant a 4K UHD. However, it is considered a fairly top tier Film Noir that would still warrant a separate standalone blu ray release (certainly more well-known than the films featured in Kino’s box sets)
