That's 7 right there.
A couple of those are more like police procedurals. I also think Laura (although considered a classic) sort of predates noirs in style.

Here, here! Also, while not quite up to par with those two, I would love The Woman on the Beach on blu. Ryan and Bennett directed by the great Jean Renoir.

Noirs were cheap to make, alot of guys got started out in them - Vincent Price and Raymond Burr are a couple other names that were heavy in noirs early in their careers.

If you haven't seen it, check out Robert Ryan in Beware My Lovely - he will absolutely make your skin crawl.

It's in one of Imprint's Essential Film Noir collections, they have a standard edition out as well.

Act of Violence is such a great film! Early Fred Zinnemann (he had lost his parents in the Holocaust), great nighttime scenes of Bunker Hill, and Mary Astor playing a prostitute at a time when she could mostly just get roles playing mothers. Someone please release this on BD!

Dead Reckoning has two blu-ray releases, and the French release is Region A compatible:

Well that doesn't exactly help me. Why tell me it is available internationally if it really isn't available?

Anyway, finally had time to tackle another movie, this time Undercover Girl. I am amazed that there was a movie that starred a female lead going undercover. The movie was a tad slow moving, but it was very well done and different from others.

Laura is 1944, right in the thick of the classic noir period. It doesn’t predate noirs; it >is< one.

Let's add in The Verdict and call it a Greenstreet & Lorre boxset.

The Mask of Dimitrios would be the highlight, though.

It is kind of perplexing that the classic Narrow Margin is not on BD but its lesser-known remake is. This is how the industry rolls.

DOA (1949)
Act Of Violence (1948)
Tension (1949)
Crime Wave (1954)
Highway 301 (1950)
Impact (1949)
The Steel Trap (1952)
Quicksand (1950)

Interesting set. I haven't seen two, and the two I have seen The Burglar and The Red Menace are great and pretty bad, respectively. I wonder if Imprint will do individual releases for these films like they did for the last set.

If I could get this for B1G1 from JBhifi then I will get this and Tales of Adventure 2. Otherwise, this is far too expensive for these films, imho

They'll both be long sold out by the next B1G1.

I’ve only seen The Island of Doomed Men, but I’ll be more than happy to upgrade my old Sony MOD DVD-R of it! Great news!

The thick of noirs? 1944 is the year of the first actual everyone-agrees-is-a-noir, Double Indemnity. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it peaked (in terms of number of noirs made) in 1948?

I am not alone in thinking that in some ways its more of a proto-noir, even this site's reviewer thought that, based on its brighter visual style.

Stranger on the Third Floor (1940) is generally considered to be the first full-fledged film noir, and then there’s the first noir giant, The Maltese Falcon (1941), which no noir scholar would call a proto-noir, and that predated Laura by three years. Laura is firmly lodged in the classic noir period, like Double Indemnity.
