I like Moore, but not like this. I’ve a feeling I’ll be glad when I watch his last movie, A View to a Kill. Bring on Timothy Dalton.
I agree. For me Octopussy is the worst film in the whole franchise, and A View To A Kill wasn't much better. At least with Timothy Dalton it was a step in the right direction.

I just finished all the Bond movies....sigh.

So, Connery was okay for me. I know, I know...not a popular take.
Roger Moore was meh.
Lazenby was horrid.
Dalton was meh.
Brosnan looked the part and was enjoyable.
Daniel Craig IS James Bond.

Besides Goldfinger (Connery) and Tomorrow Never Dies (Brosnan), I probably wouldn't revisit the older stuff at all.

I enjoyed all the Daniel Craig titles though. Casino Royale being my favorite, followed by Skyfall, Spectre, and Quantum.

Obviously, there are multiple examples of minor Bond girls who are forgettable, mostly in the more forgettable films, but that role was so important, and Richards was so wrong for it, that it's almost unbelievable that she was selected, especially as Serena Scott Thomas and Sophie Marceau were pretty much perfectly cast in the same film
[Show spoiler](though I do think it was a mistake for Elektra to not mend her ways, help Bond and survive the film)
. The only other time in recent memory I've been so disappointed with Bond girl casting was when they ballsed up the casting of Monica Bellucci in Spectre.

Obviously, Bond 25 will be released by Universal, and perhaps all of the Daniel Craig films as well, but I think the other twenty are way up in the air. Obviously, I want all of them, but I'm just not sure that will happen unless MGM and Universal allow third-party licensing. However, if they don't, it would be great if we at least got some of the classics from Universal, as well as a remastered GoldenEye, which will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2020.
The 4K part is already done. 4K DCPs are available for almost everything in the 'official' Bond movie catalogue, even the 2K-finished Casino Royale apparently got a new 4K DCP. HDR is a different matter but a few days in a grading suite for each one will still be far cheaper than transferring all of them from scratch, and it's not like MGM haven't done HDR grades for other 4K stuff of theirs that's appeared on streaming services like Silence of the Hams or Princess Bride. They even has Dobly!

All Universal have got is the rights to distribute this latest film, that's it, and who knows if that even extends to the home video rights? (MGM were very crafty in keeping those during Sony's tenure. Yes, Sony did Casino Royale on disc initially but every Craig movie after that was from MGM/Fox, and even CR itself returned to MGM for the 2012 re-release.) Everything else is still under MGM/Fox's purview AFAIK. [edit] Universal have the international rights to distribute Bond 25 while MGM will handle it at home and retain digital and TV rights, though physical media is set to go through Universal regardless so at least we'll get a ****ing UHD out of Bond 25.

But, like you, I did recently wonder out loud (in another thread) if whether Universal could somehow get their hands on the rest of the Bond catalogue for distribution so they could do new UHD Blu-rays of them. They're one of the biggest supporters of 4K physical media and have come up with some rather excellent 35mm 4K remasters in recent months, should that responsibility fall on them, and they'd get a boxset out tomorrow if they could.

A proper 4K release of the original series with proper color timing and a new proper 4K harvest for all 20 films with all original audio tracks included in lossless and proper quality is my lifelong video dream. (The current lossy original audios tacked on are so piss poor that it is a sick joke.)

Will it happen? No way in hell. Each release dating back to the beginning of home video has been fraught with problems and then gets repackaged ad nauseum. Currently the only truly good HD version of the entire series is TSWLM which is seemingly the only one to be sourced from the new 4K work that has been completed in the past few years. And even that isn't 100% perfect and lacks original audio.
This is why I started doing insanely highly detailed comparisons across formats years ago.

MGM will indeed hang onto the series as always in perpetuity and Universal should merely have a distribution window on 25.

She fit that movie perfectly IMO. She knew it was trash and had fun with it.

Die Another Day is a lot of fun

I like A View to a Kill a lot. I don't even care. Not only does it have the best Bond theme ever, but Christopher Walken and Grace Jones are the baddies. What's not to love!?

When I come across those who need AVTAK reeducation (which is frequent) I hear the bathhouse cassette tape and have Gogol's facial expression.

Looking back, she was probably given the role for that reason.

There's almost always some weird quirk in Bond films.

Considering that many of the original crop of Bond girls were foreign models with little to no acting experience who were hired simply for their looks and whose voices usually had to be dubbed (mostly by Nikki Van Der Zyl) because of their thick accents, Denise Richards wasn't that bad. I know the concept of her being a nuclear scientist is kind of laughable but the real intent they were going for was a sort of Lara Croft rip-off and with that in mind, her casting makes more sense.

The worst Bond girls IMO by far are Tiffany Case and Plenty O’Toole from Diamonds Are Forever.

Denise Richards’ line delivery was awful, but I liked the ridiculousness of her character and that final line is hilarious.

Well, it depends on what parameters you're using. There are certain lists where I'd put them both near the top.

Jill St. John is one of the few redeeming qualities of Diamonds are Forever.

"Blow up your pants!"

Jill St. John screwing her face up and going, "Yeeeeeeeeeeeee!" at the end of DAF is one of the most cringe-inducing moments in the series.
