Yeah. I've read a lot of smart people writing a lot of words about why that movie's racist, and there are some sketchy moments I suppose, but I think a lot of it is just those people not getting the blaxploitation vibe of it. That death scene is pretty stupid though, agreed.

Are you suggesting blaxploitation can't be racist?

This is also the movie where Bond takes some poor girl's virginity while dealing with heroin, my least liked 007 adventure. Baron is cool tho
YOLT - Bond gets turned Japanese by hunching over and wearing a Spock wig
Die Another Day - almost the entire film
TWINE - The Christmas line
OHMSS - The chicken phobic woman

opinions?

GOLDFINGER - All of the troops keeling over the very second the planes fly overhead with the "poison" gas. Was that supposed to fool anyone?

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - Elephant playing the slot machine in the casino (and winning); the complete change in tone for the characters of Tiffany Case and Blofeld at the conclusion of the film, where all of a sudden we feel like we're in a sitcom.

MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - Stupid slide-whistle sound effect which basically ruins a great stunt

MOONRAKER - A pigeon does a double-take! Are you serious? (Not to mention the entire concept of an industrialist constructing a space station without the U.S. or Soviets knowing about it. Even in the Bond universe of suspension of disbelief, that's asking a little too much!)

OCTOPUSSY - Tarzan yell; "Sit!"

DIE ANOTHER DAY - Where do I start?

it "seems" they are, as the sticker on the front picture states codes may not be valid after 2019, but i would love some verification on this as well. further, any idea on redemption? single code? MA? iTunes? dual redeem?

anything would be appreciated. i want to bite on this and recoup a little bit if possible.

If you have a specific issue with it, say what it is so we can understand what you’re getting it and we can have a discussion about it. Posts like this one of yours tell us nothing and come across as nothing more than bait. For all we know you could have a huge issue with all the times Bond gets called “honky” in the movie.

I'm not saying anything other than exactly what I said. Velvet's post seems to imply that "it's blaxploitation" is somehow a valid counter to any claim of racism.

Blaxploitation is not a subject I know anything about, but at best that seems overly broad.

This is done to move the pace along. If it was realistic, then each shot would be a minute or so long waiting for the troops to be affected.

???

You can edit a scene like this in such a way that it doesn't look comedic, the way it does here. People are hitting the ground in unison, and it doesn't look the least bit realistic.

You haven’t actually said anything though, other than it’s racist without citing any specific examples that you have issue with, that’s the problem.

They’re soldiers, not actors. The gas is benign, they’re not really being affected, it would even more ridiculous if they started play acting at being poisoned. To the pilots in the air, it looks like the gas is working as it should.

Goldfinger wasn't up in a plane. Presumably, he and his men are watching what's going on from a safe distance, waiting to go in. Would everyone hitting the ground that quickly, in choreographed unison, have fooled anyone?

When you watch it again, I bet you'll chuckle at how fake it looks. It wouldn't have been hard at all to have made that scene simply look a bit more believable.

Felix and the troops waiting to sneak attack after the bomb is armed inside the depository bothers me a hell of lot more than this.

Yes, these moments didn't do anything to help the film.
Regarding the "sit" joke, for any US members here who are perhaps wondering what that was about, basically it's a parody on Barbara Woodhouse who had a show on UK television around the late 70's/early 80's called 'Training Dogs The Woodhouse Way', and she used to teach dog owners how to get their dogs to sit on command (amongst other things). However, it is totally out of place in a Bond movie.

Sold my code from a set that was at least a year old a few days ago and I think I received positive feedback (certainly didn't receive negative feedback or any angry PM's) so I presume that one worked.

I never said Goldfinger was up in the plane.

Presuming that P Galore's fellow pilots were not in on the ruse of switching gas canisters, from their vantage point all they could see is soldiers falling down, not noticing how fake it looked. If they WERE in on the ruse, it wouldn't have mattered to them how it looked.

Goldfinger's men were a safe distance away. Parked in some army trucks behind a forested hill in fact. There's no way they would even see what was going on. Goldfinger was far enough away that he had to be flown in via helicopter to Fort Knox.

The depiction of the men falling does look a bit silly, but knowing that the gas was benign, if they all started play acting at being killed, it would have looked just as silly in hindsight. Having them fall the way they do serves the purpose and afterwards when we realize the gas wasn't real, it becomes clear to us why the choreographed way they fell looked the way it did.

I'm glad the scene works for you the way it's constructed. Since I never hear anyone else ever complain about it, presumably you're in good company.

Personally, this scene takes me out of the film with how ridiculous it looks.
