Hi all, this might come across as a weird question but do movie poster collectors usually want the poster to be untouched in its original packaging tube as issued by the studios? Or do they prefer the seller to completely unroll them and show pictures before buying?

Any collector will want a poster inspected before purchase, so it will need to be removed from the tube to verify condition. After that point it's hard to say, I know the movieposter.com place I go into keeps the vast majority of their posters rolled so I would think keeping them stored rolled would be all right. Keeping a large collection of posters stored flat would take up a lot of space I'd guess.

Thank you roar. How do studios usually distribute original movie posters? Do they come individually tube? If so, is there any tissue paper or bubble wrap inside to protect it?

It's a good question. I've never been on that end if them before so I don't know the answer, I do know others who post in this thread either work for theatres or have friends that so so maybe they can answer.

It sounds as if you've acquired some posters and you're gearing up to sell them. Do search this thread for packing advice as it has been written about before.

Thank you! Just have one more poster to get on my affordable poster bucket list. I love Stout posters. They seem like they are made of unobtanium!!!

It will take me quite a while to get the rest that I am after. Hopefully you can help with that at some point!!

Thanks again roar, not yet I haven't purchased the posters. Just that some collectors have the view that they need all the original packaging (like with slipcases) so I was wondering if it was common among movie poster collectors to also want the packaging used to send to theaters from the studios.

I have never heard of that request before... very interesting. I'd have to assume the original packaging for the posters would be rather boring with limited value, but you never know what collectors would find valuable.

In the 20+ years of being in this business I have never had anyone ask for "packing" that the posters shipped in so anyone who says that is probably someone who is extremely high maintenance in their collecting so I would not worry what others tell you about that. Studios have distribution hubs that ship the posters out to theaters, in regular brown tubes, generally very thin in nature with no packaging inside, so often times the posters that are shipped to theaters are basically on par with what people receive from the Disney Movie Rewards site meaning the posters will arrive with what sellers call "edge wear" which means the posters slide back and forth in the tubes during transit and develop damage to the sides of the posters.

Generally when you see that term used on eBay or elsewhere it means they probably got their posters from a movie theater, the majority of those being sold on eBay are just that, posters either given away or taken from theaters and many eBay sellers don't understand the importance of either disclosing that in detail or mentioning it at all. There are some dealers who know to disclose that though on eBay and there are some who do their best to use accurate posters, but the common theme is using "stock" images of posters that are released online by studios. Dealers tend to get posters without edge wear through their contacts because they sometimes come from various sources and not the distribution hubs at all.

Tubes used for packaging and shipping to theaters are generally very cheap and thinly made tubes. Remember original movie posters aren't meant to be sold or looked upon as valuable, they are meant to be promotional material only so they don't take great care in shipping them out to theaters, the are generally rolled up quickly by a worker and tossed into a tube, sometime with other posters, end caps slapped on, and a label placed on and then shipped out quickly with very little care for the posters because they are only considered promotional/marketing material to be displayed in a theater frame indoors and out and then generally the theaters keep them, give them to staff, destroy them, raffle them off for charity, or in some rare cases returned to the studios.

Captain America 2 was AWESOME! Finally made time to go see it tonight. Well worth the money, 3D was meh.

Going to order that Shield poster from DMR I think. Though from my previous experience I'll see myself getting a damaged one, complaining, getting a replacement, which is also damaged to go with the rest of my pile

Also...Kinsella5 is the man! That is all.

When in doubt you can always Google search and see what others say about a poster dealer or seller, etc.

I believe that seller is legit, appears to only have a few of each title, can't imagine all of that stuff not being legit, a lot of the titles are not very popular, but some are very good deals. Those Avengers international final style ones at $95 is actually a steal of a deal, very few of those posters are out there, most of the dealers out there don't have that poster.

Default Englert's "Ghostbusters" GID Print Today Online

Mark Englert's print for Gallery 1988's Ghostbusters show will be released at their galleries but also some will make it online at 8:00am pacific time/11:00 eastern time TODAY (Saturday April 19th) for those who are fans of that movie. More than likely they will go fast, it all depends on how many they will have available, my guess is it should not be chaotic since they are making 150-200 prints "per location" it said. Features glow-in-the-dark inks too!
