Hey all, just want to say that I now have a huge Harry Potter Poster collection, I don't have every "true" poster, cause that would be a lot of money and space, which I don't have, but I have all of HP 1 posters, HPs 2-6 final style posters, then all of Deathly Hallows, besides the 3D recalled poster for Part 1, I have arranged around my room where you can spin around and go through all the movies in order, I'll have pics in my gallery asap, but I love it!! If any of you want to go for a movie series, Harry Potter is pretty good to get into!! Thanks all and happy poster hunting!!

Always be careful when dealing with posters that have been in storage for a long time in cardboard tubes. Cardboard is very acidic and can cause staining so if a poster is loosely placed in a tube after several years it can cause stains to appear. I had a friend once remove a poster that he had loosely placed in a tube for about 20 years and it had some staining on the back of it after he removed it.

My Spider-Man twin towers poster has been sitting in a tube for a long time. Did not know they would be damaged. I do have the posters in a clear plastic tube holder before it was put into the tube. Might need to take it out and see how it's doing.

I am sure it is fine, my post wasn't intending to scare anyone, but I do know cardboard is acidic and can stain after many years. If you have it in a plastic sleeve and then inside a tube, it should be ok. I change out my posters into fresh poly tube sleeves every few years but that's just me.

All will be kept in original tubes until I have enough money for professional frames. What color mattes will look good with these assuming I get a black frame from Michaels?

I was thinking about blue for the Fortress of Solitude, what about the others? Blue for Jaws as well?

Older Mondo's I have that will need frames and mattes as well, would love to hear suggestions for these:
Alien (glow in the dark, Ken Taylor) - maybe a green matte?
Halloween (Methane Studios - Alamo) - orange perhaps? (halloween color?)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Methane Studios - Alamo) - red?
The Shining red variant (Billy Perkins - Alamo) - red?
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Jeff Proctor) - red?
2001: A Space Odyssey (Tim Doyle) - silver (moon color?)
I like to go with 2 or 3 mattes if I'm going to frame... I figure for the little extra cost you might as go all the way. I also prefer to get the glare free glass.

When it comes to mattes I like to pick a colour for the most outter matte that is present through out the picutre, a dominant colour if you will... then I like to pick a colour out of the print, more of a secondary colour, or one that even pop's to help pick that colour out, then I like to add a 3rd one that matches the frame. Then if I don't like how that looks I throw out all of those ideas and just play with more options

So I just started looking at Mondo prints on eBay, and am a little overwhelmed. How can I be sure that what I am buying is genuine?

I would head over to the expressobeans.com forum's, I've never received a whole lot of love over there myself, but it is a good resource, if you read through the B&S forum I think you will find that people post their auctions there and I think anyone with any sort of reputation or tenure over there would more than likely be selling legit stuff.

I ended up buying my Stout Kill Bill from a person of the expressobeans forums but the purchase was actually made through eBay.

...I know, it costs more than the prints to frame them usually...

Yeah I know. My print of Iron Man 2 (not the T.Stout version) was $40 and they wanted $120 for a basic framing.

I went to my local Michaels to get a small original Italian Star Wars poster framed and it was ridiculous(like 200.00). Hobby Lobby the same way. Some of my posters are original which stay in tubes and the rest are repros which I frame myself. I'm not willing to pay what they want for framing.

Framing costs are not a whole lot of fun but you've got options as there are ways to reduce the costs. Plastic rather than glass in the frame, no matting or simple matting, plastic frames rather than wood or metal.

Personally I'd rather save up and get one print framed at a time and go all out as I don't plan on taking these down and want them to look their best.

Naturally I'd rather have my prints framed than sitting in tubes but due to the cost involved I have more in tubes at the moment. I hope to get one framed in the next couple weeks, and then slowly work my way through my collection over the course of the next year, I'm done with buying prints I am simply clear out of wall space now (Famous last words I'm sure as I know I've said them before )

Was that the price at michael's with a coupon? If not you should go on their website. They frequently have coupons for 40-60% off custom framing orders

I find their coupon's, at least for framing, to be a joke. I went in and got a quote for a couple of prints and they pretty much looked at my coupon's and laughed, they gave me my quote, with a 50% off coupon and then I went back a month or so later with a 75% off coupon and the quote was the same.

They were also recently successfully sued in New York state for the 'coupon' practices.

To matte or not to matte.

It looks so damn good but that cost is a bugger. Anyone else have matted posters they can share pics of?

I don't have any at the moment, but if you're plan is to frame it, matted is not a necessity (especially for the price) unless it's something that really interest you.

Edit: Of course, that's my opinion.

2nd Edit: I forgot to add why, haha. If you have some time, you can go to a local Art store and create you own. That what I usually do when a poster is not of standard size so I have find away to make it fit in frame.

If anyone is looking for some plain good frames here's a few sites I was checking out. I used a standard frame size just to gauge the cost. Shipping was around $17 at each site.

24 x 36" ~ 1/2" frame, UV plexi and acid free backing.

framedestination.com $78.45

posterframedepot.com $56.92

hollywoodposterframes.com $69.95

americanframe.com - over $100, there was a shipping surcharge and no option for acid free backing when you took off the matte (doesn't make sense)

This was a crappy job, and crappy cell phone camera photo, and crappy frame (I'm young, can't afford every frame out there), but here's kind of what I meant. The poster is something like 25x38, so I bought a 27x40 frame and went to work.

I'm torn. I feel like buying a bunch of standard frames just to get these things on the wall but then I'd regret it every time I see a snazzy matte job like roar's.

Need to start playing lottery.
