been going thru all 179 pages of this thread today, does anyone actually collect original movie posters? or is there a separate thread for that? i'm not a fan of limited prints that are not original advertising.

I assume you are referring to the Mondo prints, etc. If so, I would say of the 179 pages in this thread, only about 30% of them would be about the prints, and the other 70% about original movie posters, which many people on this thread (and off) do collect. Feel free to post anything movie poster or print related, etc. Welcome to the thread by the way!

Yep I collect original movie posters, and so do a lot of other people here. What specifically were you looking for?

I believe you are in the right place. We have kind of let the print posts dominate the thread as of late, but people still pop-in to show off their original movie posters and I always enjoy seeing them.

There are a thread or two in the Memorabilia sub-forum with some really great original posters too so that is worth stopping in and having a look.

I own no mondo prints and only find about 10 percent of them interesting. I usually just skim through the print talk. There really is a decent amount of poster info.

https://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/ Anyone ever use this site for your frames for there posters. Seems like the prices on their frames don't seem that bad, but I was wondering the quality of them?

Even an "average" quality 24x36 frame from them is going to cost almost 90 dollars to ship, not worth it if you ask me.

You're better off just going to Hobby Lobby or finding a local framer because just going to get raped on shipping charges when it comes to frames no matter where you buy from.

I've bought a lot of frames from them and I'm pleased with what I got for the price. They are nice metal frames and use good materials. The shipping costs to NJ would probably be quite a bit so you would be better off with a hobby lobby if one is close by. If you would like to know more about hollywoodposterframes.com just PM me.

This is a good thread if you are looking for original movie posters. And I would recommend talking to Kinsella5 if you are looking for original posters. He is a great resource as I'm sure you figured out when going through this thread.

I collect posters and stills and i have a few lobby cards. I must confess I didn't read all 179 pages. I started at the beginning which was about Batman and the last several pages which were also about Batman. I used http://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/ all the time for my framing. I like to preserve my posters. Does anyone here use http://www.emovieposter.com ?

OK, so here's something maybe a little different for this poster thread... I just picked up a very interesting movie poster for the marquee lightbox in my movie theater two weeks ago - I've been waiting almost 2 years for one of these to become available that I could remotely afford... One of my favorite 3D animated movies ever, in a jaw-dropping lenticular 3D poster...

This thing is truly amazing, I never knew any lenticular posters were made quite like this. I purchased it without actually knowing it was going to be as "rugged" as it is - the poster itself is basically a 3/8" thick piece of plexiglass, and weighs 15 pounds! The frame flaps on my lightbox won't even close down flat because it is so thick... All the other lenticular posters I've seen or purchased were constructed of a thin enough material that they could still be rolled up for shipping; This one was shipped to me flat between two pieces of 3/4" foamcore wall board!

The seller told me that most lenticular posters have between 30 and 70 Lenses Per Inch; the less number of LPI, the thicker the poster has to be, and the more 3D effect you get. This poster has only 15 Lenses Per Inch, so it has to be made with a very thick piece of lens material.

This Lenticular has absolutely jaw-dropping 3D, both in depth and pop-out. The lettering looks like it is hovering about an inch behind the surface of the poster, but the depth of the background extends well beyond a foot into the poster - and the large, out of focus water drops you see in this 2D picture actully appear to float in mid-air, as far as a foot out in front of the poster! I've never seen any lenticular poster that actually has severe pop-out effect like this one does. The owl's body is so 3D it looks just like a real owl hovering there in space; it's head and body also changes direction and remains gazing directly at you as you move from one side to the other in front of the poster.

Below is a short video I made of this Lenticular LotG poster; I move the camera back and forth so you can visualize some of the actual "3D-ness" the poster has... It still looks somewhat flat in the video, though - it's just not anything like seeing it in person!

Expand the video to full screen and max out the resolution to 720p to view it best...

Guess I'll have to get myself another lightbox soon - because this poster will never be removed from this lightbox, due to it's complete awesomeness!

I watched the video. Didn't see it at first, but then the 3D started popping out and WOW! That is really quite unique. I bet not that many people have 3D posters like that. Very cool!

Are you going to try and get more 3D posters to add to the collection?

Yes, you can't see any 3D until I start moving side to side in the video, about a minute in... I saw two of these LotG posters for sale just after the movie was out in theaters in 2010 - at the time, they were going for about $450... This one I found I got lucky and only paid half that...

I do also have this 3D Lenticular I purchased about 6 months ago, I just cut-down an aluminum frame kit to mount it in last night, because it is an odd-ball size poster, 25 1/4" x 37 3/8". The 3D is nothing like the LotG poster, though - this one just has flat layers that appear at different depths, like a viewmaster image, and it has no pop-outs at all - but it's still a nice 3D poster. Haven't had a chance to hang it yet, I'll do that tonight...

Congrats on that 3D Lenticular "Guardians" poster. Official lenticular movie posters have been around for quite some time, the first one released to my knowledge was for the Robert Townsend comedy "Meteor Man" and then followed by the Peter Jackson film "The Frighteners". One of the most popular ones that came out was the "The Lost World" which featured a T-Rex popping out at you. There have really been some nice lenticulars produced but there are two different types, one that moves (such as the Lost World one) and then the ones that don't really move but have amazing depth to them such as "Alice in Wonderland". Then there are ones that I don't understand why were even produced in the first place such as "Speed Racer". One of the coolest ones I have seen was the hells gate lenticular for "Nightmare Before Christmas" which was insanely rare and can easily fetch a few thousand dollars on the poster market.

Regarding LOTR: Return of the King, I don't remember the studio producing a lenticular for that film's theatrical release, I will check with a big time lenticular collector friend of mine who knows more about lenticulars than most. It may have been an aftermarket on but I need to look into it.

I do know there were some lenticular character styles made for The Hobbit which were on display at the San Diego Comic-Con but I don't believe those are being produced for theatrical placement, just as something unique to display at Comic-Con.

I actually enjoy seeing some of the prototypes that are made at the studios request but then they don't go into production with them. The Iron Man 2 ones were really cool, only a few were made but ultimately the studio elected not to move forward with them.

Default Akira Print

For those who are big fans of "AKIRA", there is a new limited edition print being offered direct from the artist. Two sizes available, 24x36 and 11x17 both appear to be limited to 100 signed and numbered copies. Direct link is below:

http://www.thatkidwhodraws.com/shop.html

Also when you go there make sure to click on the "information regarding prints" for some more detailed info. I suspect once more people find out about it, that it will sell out so thought I would give everyone a head's up now. There are a ton of Akira fans, and with such a low number being offered, it is sure to sell out rather quickly, I would be shocked if it didn't. More and more artists are starting to offer their own prints and I think it's great, this artist certainly has the talent to do some pretty amazing things print-wise.

Well, the LotG poster has the super depth you were talking about as the second style of lenticular - the awesome thing about it is that it also goes outward the same distance with pop-out... the water droplets are amazing to see floating in the air in front of the poster.

I've seen a few of the Jurassic Park posters, they'll go for anywhere between $900 and $4000... Avatar lenticulars for $2000-$5000. Original vintage 2001: A Space Odessey lenticulars go for $5000+. Way too salty for my wallet!!

The Lord of the Rings lenticular I have is an aftermarket poster, not an original release. I also have a Smeagel/Gollum aftermarket lenticular, which is of the first lenticular style you mentioned - it has no depth but just changes between the two characters alternately when you move side to side... I will be framing that one tonight or tomorrow night... these two posters are a much thinner plastic, maybe 1/16" thick, and can be rolled to about a 6" diameter. They run about $65 each...
